ReadyNAS NV+ w/ 3TB ioSafe

I found a good deal on the 3TB ioSafe Solo 3G. I'd like to use this for USB backup on my ReadyNas NV+ v1.

Two questions:

1) I don't see ioSafe listed as being compatible. Perhaps that's because it's an enclosure (w/ an unknown drive), instead of a drive. Has anyone successfully used it in this way?

2) I believe the NV+ v1 only supports 2TB disks. Am I correct that if I connect it, and format it as ext3, it will work fine -- but as a 2TB drive? The 3TB is the same price, and will give me more future flexibility (I'm considering upgrading my ReadyNAS).

    1) ioSafe drives have been successfully used with some ReadyNAS (not sure about Sparc models such as the NV+ v1). I would be far more concerned with following a compatibility list for internal hard drives in the NAS, than one for USB drives used for backups. NetGear can't test all external drives and the USB compatibility list for legacy devices has not been updated in a long time now.

    2) It may work, but only with a capacity of roughly 750 GB. Better to get a new ReadyNAS e.g. RN 314 with USB3 and eSATA. That way you could choose which ioSafe suits you best and get fast performance.
