ReadyNas 2100 failed drive or spare - Blinking Green LED?

Hi Everyone,

I setup my ReadyNas 2100 v2 with X-RAID2 for iSCSI. Volume C is online X-RAID2, 4 disks. The front of the ReadyNas has a slow blinking green light above disk 2.

When I look at the messages at https://192.168.1.38/admin/ - it says "Disk 2 WDC Dead".

However, when I open the Netgear RAIDar it says "Channel 2: WDC [SPARE]". "Status: Volume C RAID Level X2, Not redundant. Adisk failure will render this volume dead."

So is it "Dead" or is it a "Spare" and why would I see 2 different states of the drive?!!

Firmware 4.2.31

Mon Sep 10 09:15:11 EDT 2018 If the failed disk is used in a RAID level 1, 5, or X-RAID volume, please note that volume is now unprotected, and an additional disk failure may render that volume dead. If this disk is a part of a RAID 10 volume, a failure of this disk's mirror partner will render the volume dead. It is recommended that you replace the failed disk as soon as possible to maintain optimal protection of your volume.

Thanks!

Try testing the drive in a Windows PC using WDC's lifeguard software.  If the non-destructive tests pass, then try the destructive "write zeros" test, as I've found it will pick up failures that the non-destructive tests miss.
