Slow FTP file transfer speed from Readynas Duo
Hi.
Have a readynas duo all been running for a while and is setup with FTP/Http access which is working.
Have 5 pcs which each can read/write files from the readynas at quick speeds using HTTP or FTP internally to the network.
The Router I am using is a Netgear N150 (Fixed ip) and has all the relevant port forwarding set to go to the Ready Nas.
MTU settings on both units are set the same 1492.
The readynas has the latest firmware.
Router has the latest firmware.
Readynas is set to a staic ip and all other network settings are correct.
This is the issue.
Externally accessing the Readynas by using a web browser or filezilla works ok when reading the folders once logged in.
If I copy a file to the ready nas it is ok 125kbs
If I try to copy a file from any folder I get 300bs (Not KBS)
A small file of 10mb is giving me 40 minutes to come down but putting a file to the nas share takes 2 minutes,
This has been tried from various sites with the same results.
Any ideas?
Please help :)

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserWhat FTP speeds do you get when you run FileZilla on your home network?
- vujadin1974AspirantThanks for the reply.
I get around 200 - 350 kbs getting files from the nas remotely
The Nas box has now decided to not allow any FTP or HTTP access!
Can still see the files (120GB) so am copying the files to an external device and I have decided to Factory reset the NAs!
It had originally been setup by a third party IT company who had not told the client any passwords nor setup recovery feature on the nas so the unit had been subjected to a soft reset to reset the password. Once this had been done a firmware update was processed and all looked well until the ftp test.
They had never before used the FTP service on the nas and it was a new thing for them.
I will factory reset the NAS on Monday morning, reset it up and retest the ftp speeds and will post back on whether it is any better, I will also take in another identical NAS unit that I know works fine upload/download via FTP and test that just to see if it is a ReadyNAs issue.
Hopefully the factory reset will get thing working properly.
Will post back Monday evening GMT :) - vujadin1974AspirantDecided to downgrade the firmware today instead of flattening it.
Still the same issues :(
Going to install filezilla server on a pc and test results - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI would still start by testing FTP performance inside your firewall before diving into the remote access part.
- vujadin1974AspirantStephen,
FTP file transfers speed outside the lan using Filezilla are good qround 200-300k both ways.
Internally speeds are what I would expect them to be for FTP and filezilla so I am going to look at the router which is a Netgear N150.
I will take my nas box and hook it up and retest ftp from a remote site and if it works ok then it is there Nas box and if it has the same speeds as there nas box it must be the router.
If my Nas box works ok then I will flatten there Nas back to factory default and reset it up and retest, If it still has issues then I will call Netgear as the unit will have a fault. If my Nas box does the same then I will look at the Router and possibly the 8 port gigabit switch it is plugged into.
Strange one and looking around a few people have had similar issues pointing to routers maybe?
Feel free for any other suggestions before Monday and advice would be great.
Going to enjoy the weekend and have fun on Monday. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserHave a good weekend!
FYI, I just tested FTP with my Duo (over the internet). I am getting 640 KB/s from the Duo, and 1.4 MB/s to the Duo. The 640 KB/s is my ISP speed, not sure what is limiting the 1.4 MB/s (could be my office internet connection).
So your limit is not the Duo itself. - vujadin1974AspirantTook my nas in and it worked ok both ways, plugged there nas box back in and that worked ok as well!
No idea what was going on.
Tested again when I got home and again after several hours still ok.
No idea but it is working properly now.
Just happy it is working as it should be.
