Slow network discovery on XP SP3!?
Hello,
I have a Netgear ReadyNAS Ultra 2nd
I created a folder that is distributed in my network with guest access.
If I map this folder from the NAS, on a computer running Windows 7 or Windows Vista, and go into "Computer" (XP's "My Computer"), I see the drive and I can access it directly.
But when I map a folder from the NAS on a Windows XP SP3 computer, it behaves different.
No matter how long after the computer booted up, when I enter "My Computer", it "thinks" for 2-3 minutes before I see any of the drives in "My Computer".
"My Computer" freezes completely and I can not do anything.
I have updated the NAS with latest firmware.
The realy strange thing is that If I map a folder from another computer, and remove the mapped NAS folder, it works just fine.
So its only from the NAS I got this problem.
Someone who has an idea of what the problem might be?
EDIT:
If I start the computer and map the drive, it works just fine. No delay at all.
And if I start the computer, open "My Computer" and wait 2-3 minutes till the drives are loaded, the speed is great.

- efxiAspirantCheck around your network for what is acting as the "browse master". Google for info. WIndows Systems like to use the "latest" version of Windows on a network for a browse master and they can sometimes misbehave. I had a small Netbook Windows 2008 R2 server that was elected, but wasn't setup to do network discovery properly. Some systems would not have a problem, some would. I am using a "Workgroup" network.
All that being said I have a Window XP SP3 system that still does exactly the same thing. Takes 2-3 minutes to bring up a network share. Never figured it out. I have another Windows XP SP3 system (actually 2 of them) that never have a problem. - LeandrAspirant

Okey thanks, I will check it out.
That XP SP3 system you got, does it behave like that no matter from hwere you map a drive?
I'm trying to figure out where the problem is located.
Computers
NAS
Switches
As of now, I think its the NAS, since I can map drives from other places whithout any problems.
