Windows 8 won't connect to ReadyNAS NV+
Need urgent help! I installed many PC with windows 7, xp and mac without problem. This is the first windows 8 computer and I could not get ReadyNAS NV+ connected. Need help.
Windows 8 can see the NV+ on the network. But when I click it to browse, it shows:
" Windows cannot access \\*****
Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network. To try to identify and resolve network problems, click Diagnose."
Details: Error code 0x80070035. The network path was not found.
I clicked Diagnose and it says "Troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem."
Very frustrating right now since I worked on it over one week, tweak the firewall, search internet and could not get an answer. I did not downgrade it to windows 7 since I know more and more windows 8 machine will come.
Please help.
Thanks.

- MywormsAspirantMore information:
I tried to map the network drive and input the correct server and share name. It does pop for user name and password. No matter what user name or password I use, it won't go through. Here is the error information.
The mapped network drive could not be created because the following error has occurred.
The specified server cannot perform the requested operation.
I used IP address and get same error.
Please help. Thanks. - MywormsAspirantI tried with RAIDar. RAIDar has no problem to find the NV+. If I click Setup, it connects successfully with IE. When I click browse, it says:
\\192.168.0.30
The specified server cannot perform the requested operation.
Thanks. - yurvangorAspirantHas there been any solution to this?
I too have connected two win7 machines, a mac, but win8(.1) will not accept the admin credentials - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI've seen some posts other places that suggest that this is a Microsoft issue (which hopefully will be fixed soon). Maybe wait for patch Tuesday (12/10/2013) before doing anything. Then make sure the Win8 is up to date (the fix might not be in the critical category).
One thought is to try disabling SMB3 and/or SMB2 on the windows machine. There are instructions here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2696547
Obviously if this doesn't help, you should re-enable them. - swehjoGuideMay I steel this thread? I suddenly have the same problem since a couple of days. Nothing changed in the environment, maybe the standard Windows Update. Running Win 8.1. My wife's PC, also running 8.1 connects fine.

Advice from Netgear is to disable the NV+ master browser function. Unfortunately you can't do that from the GUI.swehjo wrote: May I steel this thread? - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserActually there is a ToggleMasterBroswer addon for the NV+ v1 that you can use. You can download it here: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detai ... JkbQ%3D%3D
- swehjoGuideDarn.. dinner ready. I gonna look into that tomorrow. But another interesting thing is that I cannot get the certificate for Front view to work. I'm actually not sure that I ever went through the procedure to fix it with this machine so it may have been so all the time. Anyway, I've tried this procedure several times now, restarting IE and PC. In vain... Could this have something to do with it?
Browse to the site whose certificate you want to trust.
- When told "There is a problem with this website's security certificate.", choose "Continue to this website (not recommended)."
- Select Tools->Internet Options.
- Select Security->Trusted sites->Sites.
- Confirm the URL matches, and click "Add" then "Close".
- Close the "Internet Options" dialog box with either "OK" or "Cancel".
- Refresh the current page.
- When told "There is a problem with this website's security certificate.", choose "Continue to this website (not recommended)."
- Click on "Certificate Error" at the right of the address bar and select "View certificates".
- Click on "Install Certificate...", then in the wizard, click "Next".
- On the next page select "Place all certificates in the following store".
- Click "Browse", select "Trusted Root Certification Authorities", and click "OK".
- Back in the wizard, click "Next", then "Finish".
- If you get a "Security Warning" message box, click "Yes".
- Dismiss the message box with "OK".
- Select Tools->Internet Options.
- Select Security->Trusted sites->Sites.
- Select the URL you just added, click "Remove", then "Close".
- Now shut down all running instances of IE, and start up IE again.
- The site's certificate should now be trusted. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserThe simple answer is to use firefox, which will let you create a security exception - bypassing the need to install the NAS cert as trusted or root.
