video files corrupt after moving from 1 location to another
sorry about the title only so many characters are allowed.
I am getting an error when I move a file from one directory to another on my ReadyNAS NVX. I am running the current firmware.
File reading failed:
VLC could not open the file "\\NAS-SIERRA\torrents\!new video\!television\through.the.wormhole.s02e06.hdtv.xvid-diverge.avi".
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'file://NAS-SIERRA/torrents/%21new%20video/%21television/through.the.wormhole.s02e06.hdtv.xvid-diverge.avi'. Check the log for details.

- What is the method you are using in transferring the files? Try to use backup job on frontview.
- mpjbayAspirantall i do is drag and drop (move) let's say one file from one directory of the nas to another. when i try to run that file it give me the error i posted in the original post. then i have to recreate the file from scratch. any thoughts?
- mpjbayAspirantif i copy a file everything is fine, when i move a file i can't access it. this seems to only be for video files.
- Try to use backup jobs in frontview instead.
- mpjbayAspiranti didn't even know there were add-ons for the nas. i couldn't find "backup job" do you have a link to the image?

He means, open your web browser, go to the ip address of your NAS, where you'll find the Web Interface of your NAS. eg. https://192.168.1.101/admin and enter user name as admin, and your password. Alternatively, I think RAIDar also has an option to open the Web UI via a button at the bottom of the program, called SETUP.
In Frontview, (the NAS Web UI) you go to Backup, and create a backup job.
Might be worth looking here, to see what you find in the manuals. http://www.readynas.com/?cat=40- mpjbayAspirantoh i see. create a backup for future loss.

Not necessarily, you can copy data to the NAS from a PC, or even from one share to another. (eg, copying from your media share, to a share you've created. Options are available to delete contents once backup is complete as well sync them etc.)- Using backup job is more effective and effecient. If you still have problems configuring backup jobs you may contact support anytime.
- logicalextremeAspirantThis may be a permissions issue. It bit me recently after a Windows reinstall. After you've moved a file, try renaming the file at the new location. If it's the same issue I'm having, you won't be allowed to.
I've got the same username in Windows and on the NAS so drives map automagically, but if I move a file from one location on the share to another location on the share, Windows does something hinky with the permissions and I start getting "You need permission from <NAS hostname>\<my username>...". The ownership and permissions are identical before and after a move according to the NAS, but I can't read the file until I either reset the permissions via the web interface or (bizarrely) give ownership of the file to root. I think it's probably fixable with some config tinkering but it's quite annoying in the meantime.
Anyway, try renaming a new file. It may well be that your files are fine and not corrupted (you could also check the VLC log or debug interface for confirmation), but you just can't read them.
