RAIDar reports "bad disks detected" during Boot

During boot of my ReadyNAS Duo, Raidar reports "bad disks detected". First, I had a "root currupted" error. This happend during the proces of changing disk1 (500 GB) with a new empty 1TB disk. Due to this Root corrupted error message I shutted down, removed the new empty disk 1, and performed a reboot with only the old disk 2 containing all my data installed in Bay 2. And this the resulted in the "bad disks detected" error message. The LED on the front panel is indicating that some action is taking place on disk 2. I can't figure out wether I have a disk error or it is the ReadyNAS itself that is failing. And furthermorer, i am reluctant to try and boot with the old 5oo GB disk1 since it contains all my data. Now the question is wether I can boot once more with only the 500 GB disk installed without riskng to loose all my data? Can anyone help?

  • Having prepared myself for loosing all data, I shut down the ReadyNAS and carried on with the following steps:

    1. Reboot with no disks. RAIDAR reported missing disks, so I guessed that the ReadyNAS itselv was OK.
    2. Shut down an reboot with only the old disk1 placed in bay 1.

The ReadyNAS booted nicely and no data was lost. Otherwise I would have concluded that disk1 was defect, and my plan was then to repeat with only disk 2 in bay 2.
