ReadyDLNA Server stops streaming to Musicpal *Solved*
Hi,
I have problems streaming music from ReadyDLNA v1.0.18.2 to my Freecom Musicpal firmware v 1.68
When play music on the MusicPal it suddenly stops and the ReadyDLNA Server disappears from the Mediaserver list on the MusicPal. :?
After a short time it is back in the list but i have to go to the point where the music stops.
On the ReadyNAS NVX Pioneer Edition [X-RAID2]:
- Folder Media is shared, all contents.
- Auto update is enabled.
- RAIDiator 4.2.15
I can't remember if RAIDiator 4.2.13 had this same problem.
Before this DLNA Server i used a Linksys NAS200 Media Server and had no problems with streaming to the MusicPal.
Can anybody help me or respond with the same problem?

- rnas_newbieAspirantare both devices on wired connections & fixed ip addresses?
out of curiosity - what disks are in the ReadyNAS?
ps - my musicpal, is fine with my NVX, raidiator 4.2.15
but i did have an unrelated DLNA issue on my Duo(4.1.7) where it would keep rescanning the contents on boot up, it had worked flawlessly before i put in an unsupported disk in the Duo - vuilverwerking1Aspirant1. Nope. ReadyNAS (Fixed IP Address) is on Gbit LAN port on the Wifi router and the MusicPal is connected through Wifi DHCP.
2. Samsung SATAII 3.5" 1500GB 5400RPM Cache(buffer): 32MB Vendorcode: HD154UI. - rnas_newbieAspirantHi there,
Personally I'm using wired connection to my Musicpal and have no issues with my NVX.
a couple of recommendations to try to iron out where the actual problem is;MusicPal is connected through Wifi DHCP
I'd try a static ip address on the musicpal & also try wired just to see if you suffer the same issues?
Are you prone to any drop outs via wireless if listening to internet radio etc? As when i used to go wireless - people using their microwaves used to drop my connection.Hardisk - HD154UI
This is an unsupported disk (but doubt it's the culprit to your problem) & this is the model that I'm currently having issues on the DLNA rescanning on the Duo each time it boots up.
edit:
ps - I do not have autoupdate turned on.
I'd monitor the dropouts, in relation to the amount of times you update your content. - vuilverwerking1AspirantOK,
1. Why should i try wired if i had no problems with wifi with the other NAS?
2. Streaming Video's with smb protocol to my Xtreamer is no problem at all.
I know the MusicPal only uses UPnP protocol. So i think the problem is UPnP on the ReadyDLNA Server. - rnas_newbieAspirant
Why should i try wired if i had no problems with wifi with the other NAS?
It's a recommendation in attempting to discover the root cause, where a wifi dropout could be a factor & not the ReadyNAS.
As previously stating from my own experience - droputs whilst on wireless exhibited the same behaviour on my musicpal (even with the musicpal right next to my wifi router), but do not occur when wired.
I'd still be curious to see if you have dropouts when listening to internet raido stations on the musicpal, as that would indicate wifi & the musicpal.Streaming Video's with smb protocol to my Xtreamer is no problem at all.
You need to get to the root cause before you can draw the conclusion its the Readynas at fault.
Edit: just a thought without opening a massive technical "can of worms" - SMB may simply have a more robust error correction mechanism if adverse network conditions exist?
ps - For what it's worth, I do not enable UPnP checkbox on my ReadyNAS's, but just stick to the DLNA section.
Best of luck in the meantime. - rnas_newbieAspirant
2. Streaming Video's with smb protocol to my Xtreamer is no problem at all.
Just another question which may help the troubleshooting process and will determine if the issue is restricted to DLNA/UPnP or not?
Have you tried a SMB connection on the Musicpal yet? It's under the Extra's menu, "File Server" - vuilverwerking1AspirantI wil try your suggestions but i don't understand why WIFI can be the problem.
With my old NAS i also used the same WIFI setup, so in my opinion that can't be the problem.
The only thing that is changed in the home situation is the NAS.
Thanx - vuilverwerking1Aspirant

i'm not stating the problem is wireless per se, but it's the painful process of eliminating each possible component to unearth the root cause.
If you can try the smb connection via wireless, then the wired method etc - you'll have a good case for the Jedi's to potentially step in? As you can demonstrate what you've tested at each stage.
As it does sound like the Readynas is handling something differently to your previous setup.
FWIW -
i) the test via a smb connection on the musicpal should be worthwhile (set it up via the web interface of the Musicpal)
If the problem does not exist under this set-up, there are a few thread's knocking around at the moment in respect to the Readynas's implementation of dlna, which could well be causing an issue in your case.
ii) Going off thread slightly, I'm sure the most recent firmware (Duo + NVX) presents my folder structure slightly different on the musicpal under certain situations, trying to be too smart and showing the mp3's by an alphabetic prefix, instead of just listing all the entries in one folder. :(
best of luck with the process of elimination & hopefully dbotts guide may help out. - keep us posted on your progress, - vuilverwerking1AspirantThanx.
