Can't do a factory reset: WN2000RPT

Hi

I'm having trouble connecting to my WN2000RPT, which I haven't used for a while, just getting a 'timeout' each time.

So I wanted to do a factory reset to start anew. But pressing the button with a paperclip doesn't work. The light flashes, but the router keeps the name I gave it, and still can't connect.

I've seen elsewhere someone suggesting you press for 30s, disconnect power for 30s while keeping it pressed, then reconnect for 30s, still pressed. But that doesn't work either.

How else can I get this to go back to a factory reset?

  • power off the unit and power back up.

then try reset the unit again 20-20-20 or 60 other than 10sec reset
  • I have a similar problem.
The repetitor doesn't work anymore. I can't see the network and I can't connect from the computer using cable.
When I connect the UTP cable, the led doesn't light up.
The only led that is turned on is the status led, in orange light.
I tried to reset many times with no success.

The only time when I got a reaction was when I pushed the reset button while the device was turned off, then I turned it on and kept the reset button pressed. After 20 or 30 seconds, the status led flashed about 7 times in orange, then in green.

Still, I can't ping the device to the 192.168.1.250

I also want to report that the device needed to be turned on and then off almost every two or three days, because it hanged that often.

Once I tried to connect a computer using a cable, in order to connect that computer to the internet (the computer had no WiFi) and it didn't work. I don't really understand why the device has a 4 port hub if it can't provide connection by cable.

I never tried Wi-Fi repetitors from other companies, maybe they are not better, however I want to say that my experience with WN2000RPT was far from wonderful.

If the unit still under the warranty then you may want to contact support for possible RMA.

Thanks. After the tricky reset (keeping the reset button pushed while turning it on) - I turned the device off and then when I turned it on again it worked. I could connect to 192.168.1.250 and configured it.

How much is the standard warranty for NetGear devices, by the way? I can't remember how much they said at the shop when I bought it.

    Thanks.
  • Most are one year warranty and se router carries different periods
Go my.netgear.com and you can find your warranty period if you have register the device
