EX7500 Configuration when Router does not support 5GHz
Just purchased my EX7500 and updated to the latest Firmware Version V1.0.0.38_1.0.54
My Cable Modem is a Netgear CG3000v2 which only support only 2.4GHz Wifi
Issues :
- The Status Page shows the 2.4GHz has "(No Connection)"
- The Status Page shows there is no 5GHz on the Router side, but it shows connection to the EX7500 over the 5GHz channel ( ? does it transfer the 5GHz traffic to 2.4GHz traffic on the Router-to-Extender connection ? )
- The Start Page shows the 5GHz channel's Connection Status is Disconnected
- If I disable the 5GHz channel on the EX7500, leaving only the 2.4GHz channel enabled, then all traffic stops, the EX7500 is non-responsive, and I need to do a Factory Reset and start again
- The display lights alternate a red light for 5GHz then 2.4GHz, then sometimes no 2.4GHz, although it still seems to operate --- there does not seem to be a strong correlation between the indicator lights and its operation.

Re: EX7500 Configuration when Router does not support 5GHz
Hi @Banjo_on_Cable,
2.4 and 5GHz on left panel of status indicates connectivity between your router and extender. If 5GHz shows not connected, either your router is not dual band or you haven't extended the 5GHz of router to this extender. 2.4 and 5GHz on right panel of status indicates connectivity between your devices and extender. If nothing is connected to either 1 of extender band, it'll show as not connected which doesn't mean your extender is not working. PFB link about LED status of this product.

Re: EX7500 Configuration when Router does not support 5GHz
As I stated in my original post, My Cable Modem is a Netgear CG3000v2 which only supports 2.4GHz Wifi
So ...
(1) There is no 5GHz channel from the modem/router to the EX7500, but the EX7500 Status Page shows as having the 5GHz channel is open for wireless connection, the status lights shows "blue" as active and porerational, but that seems to be somewhat problematic ... no 5GHz channel through to the modem/router
(2) If I disable the 5GHz channel on the Setting Page and "save", the EX7500 "dies" with no communication possible, and I have to reset it to factory settings to restore its operation.

Re: EX7500 Configuration when Router does not support 5GHz
Hi @Banjo_on_Cable,
Did you enabled one wifi name and smart connect on EX7500 during setup? Though your router is single band, extender will broadcast both 2.4 and 5GHz as it is dual band. You doesn't need to disable 5GHz on extender. Could you please describe the issue that you are facing with 5GHz of extender? Disabling 5GHz doesn't distrupt extender's connection to router. If you witness it, try doing network power cycle(Turn off both extender and router, turn on router 1st, wait till its ready and then turn on extender) and check if that resolve your issue.

Re: EX7500 Configuration when Router does not support 5GHz
Yes, only one SSID (one wifi name) and standard "Smart Connect" at setup.
(1) Can you please explain why the EX7500 enables the 5GHz channel when there is no 5GHz channel back to the router ? What purpose does the active 5GHz channel have for the EX7500 ?
(2) Can you explain why disabling 5GHz on the Settings Page, disables the EX7500 entirely, to the point that it needs to be reset to factory settings ?
Thanks

Re: EX7500 Configuration when Router does not support 5GHz
Hi @Banjo_on_Cable,
Since this extender is Triband and second 5GHz is reserved for back haul, it'll broadcast first 5GHz network so that you can connect any 5GHz capable devices to it where if you have smart connect enabled, it'll swicth between bands based on bandwidth allocation and traffic on the bands. It should not disable the entire extender when you disable 5GHz which looks akward though. What firmware version are you using on this device?

Hi @Banjo_on_Cable,
Can you help me with screenshot of wireless settings as well as status screen to check on this?

Re: EX7500 Configuration when Router does not support 5GHz
Hi @Banjo_on_Cable,
Does your gateway supports dual band? If not, status looks fine since 5GHz between router and extender shows disconnected since your gateway supports 2.4GHz only. Still, this extender will use that 2.4GHz signal and generates its own signal and retransmit it using its 2.4 and 5GHz bands. Did you tried disabling 5GHz when smart connect is disabled? I don't feel like disabling 5GHz will make the entire network go down.

Re: EX7500 Configuration when Router does not support 5GHz
As per my first post ... My Cable Modem is a Netgear CG3000v2 which only support only 2.4GHz Wifi.
As per my first post ... If I disable the 5GHz channel on the EX7500, leaving only the 2.4GHz channel enabled, then all traffic stops, the EX7500 is non-responsive, and I need to do a Factory Reset and start again. (This happened a number of times)
Please read my postings before responding. If you have nothing useful to add, then add nothing.

Re: EX7500 Configuration when Router does not support 5GHz
Hi @Banjo_on_Cable,
Did you tried disabling smart connect on extender before disabling 5GHz and checked if you witness the same?
