WN3000RP - connection v. unstable if "owner PC" is online
My set up:
PC #1 -- connects to a wireless modem/router
PC #2 -- uses WN3000RP to connect to the wifi modem/router
If PC #1 is online, then PC #2 cannot connect to the internet.
If PC #1 is offline, then PC #2 can connect to the internet.
Any ideas please? Thanks a lot for any thoughts.

- Sherry07Tutormaybe the dhcp server of your modem/router is turned off.
:) - jmizoguchiVirtuosoI don't think DHCP is issues
Explain the broadband and router used - NetGearUser1234AspirantThe wireless wifi modem/router is called a D-Link DSL-2640R, and its user guide can be found here -
http://www.bryana.talktalk.net/public/DSL-2640R%20User%20Guide.pdf
On one of the modem/router's settings webpage, I can see the following information:
Router IP Address = 192.168.1.1
Enable DHCP Server = true
DHCP IP Address Range = 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254
The broadband service provider is called TalkTalk. If I run the ipconfig command on PC #2 (which is the "child PC" - the one that accesses the modem/router via the NetGear wifi extender), I get these results -

Any ideas please? Thanks a lot for any thoughts.
If both PC1 and PC2 are connected on the DLINK router, are they able to go online at the same time?
"If PC #1 is online, then PC #2 cannot connect to the internet. ""
What is the IP address of PC1 and PC2?
-- - jmizoguchiVirtuosoAny chance you are doing ppp authentication on your one pc?
- NetGearUser1234AspirantThanks a lot for everyone's help..
I tried switching off the wifi extender device, and connecting directly to the wireless modem/router using PC #2. It worked! And that was with the other PC (#1) connected to the internet at the same time.
Regarding the IP addresses of PC #1 and PC #2. I think they are different, but I now think that perhaps the wifi extender is using the same IP address that PC #1 is using. (I seem to remember that they both end in 1.3) I am a clueless newbie at this, and so that is why my answers are both poor and vague, for which I apologise! It's late now, and so tomorrow I will investigate this, and determine what all of these IP addresses are. Thanks.
I will also investigate if PC #1 is using "ppp authentication". However, I may not be able to get access to PC #1 machine directly, because it is located in another building. Can I investigate this issue remotely? In other words, can I find out if PC #1 is using "ppp authentication" by just using PC #2 only? Using PC #2, I can access the modem/router's settings page. Would I be able to find this information there perhaps?
I'll investigate everything tomorrow. Thanks. - InformerAspirantOn the PC that doesn't work when the other is online (the one that is connecting to the to WN3000RP) can you setup manually fixed IP address in TCP IP settings, e.g. 192.168.1.10 and apply DNS (e.g. 8.8.8.8 , 8.8.4.4)? See if that works.
- AdvertmanAspirantThis is something i did not even noticed before the closest error i got was one where some devices could not connect but after a reboot all devices could connect this was on a thomson 780wl router some times i even had te delete the dhcp ipadres of the device that could not connect.
I would like to know what is your % of reception you get try to get above 30%
from your story it looks like the wnr3000rp is used as 1 ipadress and does not put 2 dhcp ipadresses through at the same time!
Have you tryed a firmware upgrade of the D-link?
Greets - NetGearUser1234AspirantPlease note that this issue has now been (unexpectedly) fixed. I have had no connection problems for the last 4 days. The only thing that I have done is to reposition the wifi extender device.
Previously, with the wifi extender in its original position, I had no connection problems. However, I think recently (and unknown to me), some large objects were placed behind a wall where the wifi extender was located.
Now that the wifi extender has been relocated away from this "troublesome wall", I can connect to the internet, regardless of whether or not the other PC is connected to the internet as well.
I'm sorry for this "false alarm" post. Thanks for all ideas. Much appreciated.
