Hi Is there realy a speed difference between PL1200 and PL1000? Can someboby explain me the difference? accordind to the spec sheet, they are both identical. One more question, Can we buy only the PLW1000 adaptor without buying the pair (PLW1000 and PLP1000)? I already have a PLP1200 pair and only need the wifi AP. Thanks13KViews0likes5CommentsPLP1200 powerline PLUS PLW1000 or 1010?
I have installed a PLP1200 kit and it works great to get ethernet up to an upstairs office in a brick home, from a downstairs room with a Comcast Arris wireless cable modem router. This system replaces a now-dead (surge from lightning strike) original XE(?)102(?) powerline kit. Now, I'd like to get fast internet into another upstairs room. I'm considering buying another PLP1200 kit ($79) but I only need one more unit, so I'd have an extra one. Do/Will Netgear soon sell single units separately? It occurs to me that I might want to do powerline wireless instead in the second upstairs room, in order to have an ethernet port and, in addition, a wireless signal up there for phones as well as laptops. I found Negear powerline wireless kits plw1000 and PLW1010, which appear to be the same.. Are PLW1000/1010 units compatible on the same power lines with the plp1200 units I have already installed? If compatible, are they a slower powerline standard, and will they slow down the service to the upstairs PLP1200 unit due to a "slowest link" compatiblilty issue? (I'm not worried about bandwidth and simulaneous usage, just slowing down the nice speed I already have with the powerline.) If compatible on the same power lines, do they use the same communications protocols, i.e. will I need to install both ends of the PLW1000/1010 kit, or might the existing PLP1200 unit downstairs attached to the cable modem router communicate effectively"driving" a new PLW1000/1010 receiving (and wireless rebroadcasting) unit upstairs, working with the signal that is already on the electric line from the PLP1200? Thanks for any knowledge. Cant find it in Netgear sites (which describe compatibility with older gear), or Amazon or Newegg answered questions.7.3KViews0likes6CommentsDisable DHCP on XWN5001 power line wifi?
Hello, is it possible to disable DHCP on the HWN5001 router? I want to set this up as a simple access point and have the primary router handle IP addresses. I have heard that using the same SSID and pasword works better if you also turn off DHCP on the extender (and also put in a static IP). Thanks.5.9KViews0likes5CommentsCloning and Network Security
Interesting forum. Okay so I have a non-netgear router. Right now I have the netgear as its own network so we have to log onto it. Can't use net genie because router is not netgear so can't put any contols on the way it is set up currently. Or at least I haven't figured out how to. I want to set up Powerline so it just clones my current wireless network, so we don't have to log on and off the two networks while working around the house, but I cannot figure out how. My original wifi network is MAC whitelist protected. If I do clone it this way will I have to add the netgear device into my MAC whitelist on my original router. Will a cloned netgear also be MAC whitelist controlled for access. Meaning, will those who can get on original wifi network be the only ones to get on Netgear extended? Rather confused by it all and the instructions are not very helpful.5.4KViews0likes5CommentsIs PowerLINE Wi-Fi 1000 - Essentials Editions (PLW1010-100NAS) mimo or siso?
First, thanks for reading and helping me out with my question. I wanted to know if the PLW1010 is mimo base or siso? I have tried looking and could not find an answer. There are other powerlines out there that are mimo, and I wanted to confirm that this is. I really like the specs, but this is a big consern form me. Thank you for your reading and answers.Netgear Powerline 1200 connected to Netgear Wifi Extender Ac1200
Hi, I live in a 3 storey house. My modem (which includes an integrated router) is located the first floor. The internet speed is 60mbps. On the third floor, I was getting a very low signal, making it very difficult to browse on the internet, As such, I decided to buy the Netgear WFi Extender AC1200 and I placed it on the third floor. Both my Mac and my PS4 are located on the third floor and are now wired directly into the Netgear WiFi Extender AC1200. I can now can speeds up to 25mbps on the third floor. I have read that you can get higher speeds with powerline adapters such as the Netgear Powerline 1200 (1 port). Therefore, I thought that I should change my configuration to as powerline network instead, but the issue is I want a good wifi reception for my portable devices (Iphone, Ipad, etc.). I thought of a solution but I'm not sure whether it works: 1. Setup powerline adapters: one connected to my modem/router and another one connected to the wall outlet on the third floor 2. I would then run a wire from the Powerline Adapter on the third floor to my Netgear Wifi Extender AC1200 3. I would wire my Mac and PS4 to the Netgear Wifi Extender AC1200 4. Netgear Wifi Extender AC1200 would also be used as a wifi access point for portable devices. In other words, I'm wondering whether I can use the Netgear Wifi Extender AC1200 as an access point that is wired to my powerline network connection. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
