Cloning and Network Security
Interesting forum. Okay so I have a non-netgear router. Right now I have the netgear as its own network so we have to log onto it. Can't use net genie because router is not netgear so can't put any contols on the way it is set up currently. Or at least I haven't figured out how to.
I want to set up Powerline so it just clones my current wireless network, so we don't have to log on and off the two networks while working around the house, but I cannot figure out how. My original wifi network is MAC whitelist protected. If I do clone it this way will I have to add the netgear device into my MAC whitelist on my original router. Will a cloned netgear also be MAC whitelist controlled for access. Meaning, will those who can get on original wifi network be the only ones to get on Netgear extended?
Rather confused by it all and the instructions are not very helpful.

You will have to reconfigure the new router. What you are trying to do is like replaacing an engine on an Chevy with Ford engine....Setting up the router won't take that long.

I may have confused. I have a wifi router. Brought in a powerline adapater. Want to add powerline adapater to original router to have it cloned instead of making it a separate wifi network. The other questions remain. So i do not know what "new router" means in your post. Thank you.

Which powerline adapter?
Which router?

That makes it easier to cut to the chase.

You can clone your wireless network by logging into the Powerline and entering the same SSID and password as used on your non-netgear router. See page 16 in the manual (link).

I believe the answer is no. The Powerline Wi-Fi does not have MAC whitelisting, so any device that has the Wi-Fi password can connect to the Netgear. If your original router applies MAC whitelisting to both LAN and WLAN devices (some only apply it WLAN), then non-whitelisted devices that manage to connect through the extender will probably not be able to get through the router, so you should still be protected.
