7 TopicsSMART errors on EDA500 not reported in log
I have two EDA500's attached to my RN516. Current firmware is 6.9.2, but this has apparently been going on in 6.7.5 and 6.8.1 before it (I skipped everything else in between). I have two drives with increasing SMART errors in one of the EDAs, and there is not one word about it in the main log. One has 153 reallocated sectors and 4 pending sectors and the other 41 reallocated sectors. smart_history.log shows these have been creeping up for months. They were not new when I put them in, and they have 64k and 25k hours respectively, so maybe that's to be expected at least on the one, but I also expect for the log to warn me about this. I only noticed this because the volume scrub locked up and the subsequent re-boot resulted in the volume being out of sync. I looked at the SMART stats to see if there was a clue there and, sure enough, it looks like one or both of those drives could be the culpret.. Note that I do not have an email address entered in the NAS, so I get no email notifications. But I really don't think that should matter. There are no SMART errors on the drives in the 516 itself or the other EDA, so I don't know if log entries would be made for those or not. Is there a bug, or is it just the way it is that these errors on an EDA500 go unreported? If it's intentional, it needs to be re-thought.1.3KViews0likes8CommentsEDA500 on RN516 - Scrub very slow
This problem has been previously reported by another user on an earlier version of the OS: ReadyNAS-516-2x-EDA500-Scrub-on-EDA500-very-slow. It persists in OS6.7.5. As scheduled, my main data volume (6x6TB XRAID=21.88TB) started a scrub and competed it in about 30 hours. My eda-1 volume (5x4TB XRAID=12.5TB) then began it's scrub. That initially locked up the NAS. The log shows eda scrub starting before data volume scrub was finished, which may be the reason for the lockup and likely extended the data volume scrub time. I need to space the out more in the schedule). I had to reboot and then manually re-started the eda scrub. It's going to take a lifetime (0.01% complete in 5 hours). Top shows CPU usage of around 4% for md125_raid5 with a priority of 20 and 2% for md125_resync.with a priority of 39. The really off thing is that I swear the eda volume scrub was in the 20% range at lock-up even though it had only been running a bit over a day. Could it have been running faster when the data volume scrub was ongoing? Is there anything I can do to safely speed this up? When will Netgear address this issue?3.8KViews0likes14Comments'Management service is offline' after 6.7.4 upgrade
I inadvertantly kicked off the firmware update to 6.7.4, and now although my RN314 has rebooted, and the display cycles between displaying ReadyNAS 314 6.7.4 and displaying the current state of a resync on the expansion volume (EDA500), I cannot access the Admin Page. The browser continually recycles at the end of the thermometer bar, and RAIDar lists "Management service is offline" as the status. (Both reflect Firmware: 6.7.4). I found an earlier thread and re-kicked off the firmware update, incase it hadnt completed - no change. I've downoaded the logs but don't even know where to start with the litany of files that that brought... I have one slot available in my readynas 516. If I switch out all my hard drives with higher capacity disk, is it possible to use my old drives in the eda500 as they are still good, they are just less capacity. I am curious as a new volume will be created in the EDA500, so I hupothetically believe this will work, but it is a pricy gamble for me to test this out. Thank you and have a nice day, Frank3.1KViews0likes7CommentsReadyNAS Bonded Ethernet
I've recently purchase the RN314 and EDA500 unit. I would like to know can I bond the ethernet ports to a ProSafe 8-port Gigabit Ethernet Switch. I have around 10 TB of images I need to copy to the RN, will this halp in speed. In order words will bonding the ethernet ports give me 2 Gb network speed?3.6KViews0likes4CommentsReadyNAS 516 with EDA500 Expansion unit issue when started from timer.
Hi, When the ReadyNAS 516 and EDA500 is automatically started from a set timer sometimes but not always, the follow messages are output and the share on the EDA500 is unavailable: Disk in channel '1' (eSATA Port 1) changed state from RESYNC to ONLINE. Disk in channel '2' (eSATA Port 1) changed state from RESYNC to ONLINE. Disk in channel '3' (eSATA Port 1) changed state from RESYNC to ONLINE. Disk in channel '4' (eSATA Port 1) changed state from RESYNC to ONLINE. Disk in channel '5' (eSATA Port 1) changed state from RESYNC to ONLINE. If I do a manual restart, the issue goes away Has anyone else had a similar issue? Thanks.5.9KViews0likes14Comments
