Extender
4 TopicsHow far away can you place the Orbi Satellite?
I have a detached garage with a guest apartment above. It sits about 80 feet from my existing Comcast modem and Apple router in my 3500 SF house. I have tried two Netgear extenders with poor results. I want to be able to use a laptop, mobile devices, and Amazon Firestick in detached apartment. Will Orbi work for this application? If so, how far away can I place the satellite from the base? Will I need a second satellite for the house?SolvedRBS50 How to extend to a shed
Hi Have an Orbi RBK50 and RBS50 and need to connect a wired IP Camera by ethernet to an extender of some sort. The Camera is in a remote shed (25m away from the Orbi Satellite 40m from the Orbi Router) on a different power ring so cant use a powerline extender. I am using a Netgear extender at the moment but it keeps dropping out. When it works it works well but its not reliable as part of my CCTV system. Could someone advise the best product (extender) to use with the Orbi.Need to EXTEND Orbi outdoors
I purchased this system 2 months ago and in our 2500 sq ft, 3 level home, coverage and performance have been exceptional, however once you go outside to our patio - which is less than 25' away from the satellite unit - we have seen a major problem with Skype/FaceTime performance (freezing, choppiness etc), which I want to deal with. For this particular scenario I do not feel the purchase of another Orbi satellite is warranted, but I am looking for advice on making this work. I do not have LAN port installed outside, so this would have to be an extender/AP device solution I would think. I was thinking of getting one of the Netgear range extenders, but I honestly don't know if this is going to make my setup overly complex, and if I can get integration to the point of having a seamless transition from Orbi to extender connectivity if someone is, for example, walking with iPad on FaceTime in the house then walks out to the patio where the signal was degraded before. I have read many negative accounts of people trying to do this, so I am hoping that the `Orbi users' can provide some real world context for me on how they solved this issue. Thanks in advance, DanWill Orbi Satellite work with existing Netgear Nighthawk X8 router?
I recently purchased a Nighthawk X8 router, so I don't need an extra router. My X8 is placed in the center room of our house. Our home built in 1926, is 3,000sq' it has older plaster walls & the wi-fi reception barely reaches through more than 1 wall. Wireless repeaters didn't seem to work, nor the powerline extenders, so I just had someone hardwire a Netgear AC1200 in order to have wi-fi in the family room. Seems to work great but the signal drops near the rear of the house, so I'm thinking to either hardwire another extender as an additional access point, but I would like to have a single mesh network, which switches automatically (so we don't have to sign on to the extensions whenever we move about the house with a laptop) Can I create a single mesh network using the X8 & the AC1200 I just purchased? Or I see the new Orbi Satellite which looks great & has the capability of a single mesh network, but will it be compatible with my existing Netgear Nighthawk X8 router?
