11 TopicsUsing Orbi with Cat6 home network and Verizon Fios Gigabit
Hi - looking for advice on how to best set up my Orbi system with a newly installed Cat6 home network and Verizon Fios Gigabit internet in a 3-storey wood frame row house. At the moment we have our Verizon modem (Fios Quantum Gateway Router) connected via ethernet cable to the main Orbi router in the basement, and I have 1 x Orbi satellite positioned on each of the upper 2 x floors. Wi-FI on the Fios router has been disabled and AP mode has been applied to the Orbi network as per guidance in various posts - the network operates as expected and performance is relatively solid, though up/down speeds are generally lower than I would hope for with the Fios Gigabit connection. As mentioned, we recently installed a Cat6 network in the house so I am wondering if I can take advantage of it to establish direct physical connections between the main Orbi router and the satellites - plug the main Orbi router into the network patch panel in the basement, and then plug each of the 2 x Orbi satellites into their own ethernet port on the upper floors so communication between the 3 x units is fully wired? I'm no expert, but in theory it seems like this should work and provide a much more robust network than if Orbi system is fully wireless. Any advice/suggestions very much appreciated!Fios trouble with C6300 but it does work! Would really like to avoid buying a new router!
Hello, I got a Netgear AC1750 WiFi Cable Modem Router, "Built-in DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem", Model C6300 about 2-3 years ago. I was using Comcast in my old apartment, but moved to a place with FIOS (internet only). I am on that network as we speak, and my speed test results (from both speedtest.net and Measurement-Lab from Google) show me at 50+ mbps upload and download. However, the network has gone in and out, and it takes a WHILE to show back up. Also, I wanted to change my network name from "NETGEAR75" but I'm unable to log in to my router via 192.168.0.1 or routerlogin.net, the second of which tells me "You are not connected to your Router’s WiFi network." which is clearly false. The network also crashes when I try to connect our new Roku Premiere to the network--it doesn't just not work for the Roku, it knocks out the wifi for the whole apartment, and I need to restart the router! If anyone has any advice here, I would really appreciate it. Clearly the router works on some level with Fios. I'm hoping there's some setting that can be changed to get over these hurdles, and I don't need to get a whole new router or start renting from Verizon again!3.7KViews0likes2CommentsGenie router
I have Verizon fios and I was wondering get if I could use the new Genie router to make my wireless speeds faster. I don't know if you can use a router with a cable modem, or if net gear has something that can replace it entirely. At the moment I have the 75/75 up/down, and sometimes I get it, and sometimes it's at a crawl. Thanks for the help!3.1KViews0likes1CommentVerizon On Demand Issue
I just purchased a EX7000 Nighthawk AC1900 and everything works great except, my verizon fios "on demand" stopped working. I've spent about 5 hours talking to verizon and reseting STB units, but like I keep telling them. There must be some setting on either the extender or the gateway router that is causing the problem. The gateway is a verizon MI424WR.2.7KViews0likes1CommentORBI and Frontier FIOS (Quantum G1100 Router) Internet Drops
I have the Orbi RBR50 (Router + 2 satellites) with v1.10.1.2 connected in AP mode to my Frontier FIOS Quantum G1100 Router, with the FIOS Wifi disabled. My internet, wifi AND the FIOS router ethernet, drops for approximately 6 seconds every 15 minutes, to the second. I am running Net Uptime Monitor that tracks drops greater than 5 seconds. This affects the devices connected directly to the FIOS Router via ethernet LAN. This is not really noticeable with regular internet activity, but is definitely a problem with PS4 online gaming and my Ooma VOIP phone connected directly to the FIOS router. Otherwise, the internet signal and connectivity are great. If I disconnect Orbi from the FIOS Router, the internet failures cease to happen. I have confirmed that BEAMFORMING and MU-MIMO are disabled. Any ideas before returning the Orbi to Costco? Thanks!Orbi with Fios in AP mode
Following some other threads I have setup my Orbi to operate in AP mode in order to work with my Fios router. I seem to have successfully done this - how do I get connected to the internet? I have the IP Address for the Orbi - where do I put this to get internet access? I really don't know what I'm doing and have simply followed instructions from the Netgear websiteOrbi with Fios in AP mode

I bought a new Orbi system today. Immediately ran into problems as it would NOT connect to the internet. My older X6 R8000 is right next to it and connects immediately. If I plug the Orbi in through the LAN port on the X6, then it works fine. I used this method to update the time, firmware on both the router and the satellite, and finalize the settings. I tried to go back to just the Orbi and it will not connect. I've tried multiple ethernet cords, I've restarted every piece of equipment in the chain, and I've reset the Orbi from scratch. Nothing fixes it. I have a Verizon FIOS ONT that was just recently installed and is apparently working flawlessly. The R8000 (which Netgear has apparently abandoned early) still works fine and connects to the internet without hesitation. There is a Netgear article that says you have to set it up in AP mode connected to the fios router, but I'm not using a fios router at all, so I can't use AP mode without losing router functionality. The FIOS ONT is just a fiber converter, not a router. Anyone have any ideas?Solved
