As good as Orbi looks on paper I don't understand Y you would cut yourself so short and not support Eithernet backhaul for the satellites, I have 5 locations needing a system like this but without support for Eithernet backhaul I will have no choice but to use either Eero or Luma. Is adding Eithernet backhaul even possible with the curent hardware only having to add it threw firmware or would a new hardware design be needed? There are many of us asking for this, Please update me on this and please push this reqwest to the top. Everyone please vote this much needed feature up.SolvedLooking for a select group of Orbi Community members that are interested in beta testing firmware
Greetings Orbi Community, We are looking for a select group of Orbi Community members that are interested in beta testing current and upcoming Orbi firmware to help broaden our scope of use cases in real environments. We are kicking off this beta testing program with OrbiOS Rel. 2.2 that is currently available for testing. This release contains the following: Significant bug fixes for stability & performance Update on Guest WiFi Schedule usability Update as of 8/22/18: Upon further investigation the Guest WiFi Scheduling feature has been removed from this release as it requires further testing. We will reintroduce this feature in an upcoming release. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Please note: This Beta Firmware is available only for RBR50 & RBS50. Beta firmware for other Orbi systems will be available soon. If you’d like to participate and provide feedback in our Orbi Beta Firmware Community please post a reply to this topic with “I’d like to participate in the Orbi Beta Firmware Community” or send a private message to Christian_R to be granted access. By requesting to participate, you agree to share your feedback strictly within the Orbi Beta Firmware Community. You will receive a private message once your username has been added as a participant. We look forward to working with you! Orbi TeamOrbi: We really need separate SSID for 2.4 Ghz and 5Ghz or speed is limited to less than 200 Mbps
TLDR: With Orbi, my 5Ghz capable devices are "forced" to connect to 2.4 Ghz most of the time, slowing down speed. Tested against 3 different routers and my 5Ghz capable can connect to 5Ghz network all the time. I got the 3-pack Orbi from Costco and after numerous testing, ALL my devices are connecting to 2.4 Ghz MOST of the TIME rather than 5 Ghz. This slows down the transfer speed from 800 Mbps to a paltry 145 Mbps. Unfortunately, since the Orbi does not allow separate SSID for 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz, I cannot "force" my device to connect only to 5Ghz to get better speed. This means that I have a $499 router system that mostly allow only 2.4 Ghz. I previously have a Time Capsule and setup 2 separate SSID: - devices capable of 5Ghz will ONLY connect to 5Ghz SSID (MacBook, iPhone, etc.) - devices capable of ONLY 2.4 Ghz will connect to 2.4Ghz SSID (thermostate, etc.) There was no changes on the setup or placement of my devices when I replace the Time Capsule with the Orbi: 1). Orbi is in the middle of apartment, same location as my Time Capsule 2). Laptops are in the same area as before (desk, room 1, etc.) 3). Other devices are in the same area as before (printer, camera, thermostat, etc.). 4). No new devices that can interference with Wifi signal The ONLY changes is the Orbi Router and Satellite and now all my 5Ghz capable devices are connecting to 2.4 Ghz with Orbi. I powered down Orbi, put my Time Capsule back and BAM!! I got 5Ghz connection again. For a separate testing, I bought the following: - Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 - ASUS RTC3200 Setup both to have separate SSID and BAM! 5Ghz devices can connect to ONLY 5Ghz network. I hope Orbi will change this in the new upgrade. Otherwise, I have no need for a $499 router that "force" 5Ghz devices to connect to 2.4 Ghz network.WPA2 - KRACK / Vulnerability
Hi Netgear, I think this is really important and should be monitored closely and all the wifi users should ask the vendors to monitor an patch this. Looks like that WPA2 is about to be cracked and the details / exploit will be released soon. the US CERT released this note: " US-CERT has become aware of several key management vulnerabilities in the 4-way handshake of the Wi-Fi Protected Access II (WPA2) security protocol. The impact of exploiting these vulnerabilities includes decryption, packet replay, TCP connection hijacking, HTTP content injection, and others. Note that as protocol-level issues, most or all correct implementations of the standard will be affected. The CERT/CC and the reporting researcher KU Leuven, will be publicly disclosing these vulnerabilities on 16 October 2017." Looks like that Aruba , Ubiquiti, Microtik, and other vendors are adressing the issue on software updates. Can you please let me and all the users know if NETGEAR is currently looking on this ? Are you going to update your software to fix all the reported CVEs ? List of CVEs: CWE-323 CVE-2017-13077 CVE-2017-13078 CVE-2017-13079 CVE-2017-13080 CVE-2017-13081 CVE-2017-13082 CVE-2017-13083 CVE-2017-13084 CVE-2017-13085 CVE-2017-13086 CVE-2017-13087 More details: https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2017/10/severe-flaw-in-wpa2-protocol-leaves-wi-fi-traffic-open-to-eavesdropping/SolvedAnyone else want a refund for the Orbi that Netgear is slowly bricking via Forced Firmware?
So in the past day since updating to the latest firmware, my devices are losing connectivity 2-5 times per hour. What in the world did you guys do? Send out firmware to basically brick our $400 router? I have spent too much time wasted trying to get my Orbi router fixed in the past few days, than all my other routers in the last 15 years combined. I would just like a refund. I feel like you guys are purposefully making this router worse with each and every firmware update. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one that wants a refund for this router, that was once the best to being a pure joke. Even your app seems to be glitchy as ever lately. Can we all get a refund please?Feature request (force a device to a specific Orbi)
I have one problem device that, for some reason, always chooses the Satellite Orbi instead of the Router Orbi, which is always the furtherest away from the device. The Router Orbi is by far the closer one to the device. I can reboot the network and the device will connect to the Router, but will eventually creep back to the Satellite for whatever reason. It's a stationary device (TV) and never moves. I'd like to request to have a feature implemented that will allow us to "force" or designate a specific device to a specific Orbi. I know they plan on releasing a firmware that will allow us to customize how the lights on top act (always on, etc), which I hope gets released soon! Also, a Guest Network feature would rock!OrbiOS 2.0 availability
Announcing the availability for OrbiOS 2.0. This release includes 2 community requested features that we're happy to deliver: 1) Daisy Chain - which allows Orbi Satellites to talk to each other. This extends the reach of the Orbi system, especially in long or tall floorplans. 2) Improvements to the Attached Device page, which will now show which Orbi each device is connected to, and over which frequency (2.4 or 5GHz). This page also shows how each Orbi Satellite's upstream Orbi is. 3) Due to field feedback, we've brought back the Radio Transmit Power control 4) Allows you to rename devices & your Orbi Satellites via orbilogin It also has many bug fixes and incremental improvements We will be pushing this firmware through auto-firmware upgrade over the next several days, but if you want to manually upgrade, download the firmware and upgrade through orbilogin.com -> Advanced -> Administration -> Firmware Upgrade Here are the links. Hello, I saw this topic here. But I would like understand why all upper 5Ghz channels are unavailabled for the clients. In Europe, at least in France, we can use the next channels in 80Mhz : 36, 40, 44, 48 52, 56, 60, 64 100, 104, 108, 112 116, 120, 124, 128 So, we have 4*80Mhz available. Why Orbi cannot do a channels distribution like this (or another order)? 36, 40, 44, 48 : choice of user to assign them to the Orbi base or satellite 52, 56, 60, 64 : choice of user to assign them to the Orbi base or satellite 100, 104, 108, 112 : choice of user to assign them to the Orbi base or satellite 116, 120, 124, 128 : dedicated to backhaul With such a possibility, we can avoid signal noise from neighbours and from the other Orbi devices. Because now, Orbi base uses the same channels as Orbi satellite(s), which is really not optimized. And I have neighbours with same 5Ghz channels in use. Can someone explain to me why all 52 to 128 channels are locked for users?QOS- priority by device
How do I setup high priority for one device in my network over all other devices? E.g., I need high priority for my laptop when I work from home compared to roku or iPad etc. I am surprised I don't see much under QOS for this router. 400 dollars is a lot for router with out moderate features
