I have a Orbi router (RBR50) and two satellites (RBS50). When I upgrade firmware to V2.0.0.74 , I found Orbi supports daisy chain topglogy (Advanced-Advanced Setup-Wireless Settings-Backhaul Topology) I try to link satellite-A to satellite-B: first I put two satellite in a room, then reset satellite-A, then press sync button on satellite-A and satellite-B. I try it again and again, sometimes I found s-A connected s-B, but 5 mins later, it changes, s-A and s-B re-connected Orbi router directly. Does Anyone success? Thanks.SolvedHow far away can you place the Orbi Satellite?
I have a detached garage with a guest apartment above. It sits about 80 feet from my existing Comcast modem and Apple router in my 3500 SF house. I have tried two Netgear extenders with poor results. I want to be able to use a laptop, mobile devices, and Amazon Firestick in detached apartment. Will Orbi work for this application? If so, how far away can I place the satellite from the base? Will I need a second satellite for the house?SolvedHidden Orbi QOS settings. Do they work?
Once you are logged into your Orbi router webpage, http://orbilogin.net, the UI on the web pages does not seem to include any options for QOS settings. There is a link For "QOS Setup" If you click on "Advanced" and then "Setup" but the page it brings you to only has the option to run an OOKLA speed test and nothing esle. However, once you are logged into your Orbi router if you manually type this address into the URL, http://orbi login.net/QOS_main.htm, you can get to several pages that have more options for setting QOS priorities. My questions is, do these priorities even work? I have set several priorities, from "normal" to "highest", for various MAC addresses and the LAN ports but I don't know if they are even doing anything on my Orbi router. Are they? On the first page you can seemingly enable or disable WMM and turn "Internet access QOS" on or off. WMM is ebabled by default and Internet access QOS seems to be turned off by default. I left WMM enabled and turned Internet access QOS on becuase I assumed that if I did not turn it on the priorities I set would have no effect (assuming that they might work at all). There is also an an option to "Enable upstream QOS" which does not seemingly work. At the bottom of the page is a "SETUP QOS RULE" link which brings you to another page where you can delete or edit 30 QOS priorities that are already seeminlgly in place and where you can create new priorities. I would really appreciate someone from Netgear explaining what is going on with these semingly hidden QOS settings on the Orbo roouter. How Connect to 5G on Orbi?
My local 2.4G WiFi environment is crowded. I have some devices which support both 2.4 and 5G. I would like them to connect to the Orbi at 5G instead of 2.4. With my Nighthawk router, the 2.4 and 5G WiFi had different SSID's, so this was easy. With the Orbi, both networks share the same SSID. Surely there is SOME way to make this happen. I have thought of setting up a Guest network (with security), but when I put my own SSID on Guest, the Orbi made both 2.4 and 5G SSID's the same. Is there a way to turn off the Guest 2.4 radio? ThanksSolvedFeature Request: Orbi Satellite Ethernet Backhaul
As good as Orbi looks on paper I don't understand Y you would cut yourself so short and not support Eithernet backhaul for the satellites, I have 5 locations needing a system like this but without support for Eithernet backhaul I will have no choice but to use either Eero or Luma. Is adding Eithernet backhaul even possible with the curent hardware only having to add it threw firmware or would a new hardware design be needed? There are many of us asking for this, Please update me on this and please push this reqwest to the top. Everyone please vote this much needed feature up.SolvedOrbi satellite not syncing - Reset both devices. Moved the Satellite closer.
Both have newest firmware and the Satellite didn't have issues until recently. After another factory reset I cannot get my Satellite to sync. I have tried 3 factory resets and each setup prompt does not show the Satellite being detected. Before the reset(s) I had a solid Blue but could no get the Satellite to show up - backend or through the app. The Satellite turned Magenta only after I rebooted it. Yes I have moved the Satellite closer to the router and tried using the sync buttons before and after reset(s). Right now the Satellite continues to flash white then solid Magenta. Back to another reset :(SolvedCan I create a 2.4GHz only guest network?
Don't laugh. Hear me out. I just replaced a 10 year old Airport Extreme with a Netgear Obi RBK50 (with the latest firmware update), and I love it. I gave the Orbi the same SSID and password as the router it replaced, and all my network worked beautifully, with two exceptions. I have a Withings (now Nokia) bathroom scale and thermometer. Neither of these will connect. They're both 2.4GHz devices. The router does, of course, support 2.4GHz, and the app says 2.4GHz is active. Nokia says that I'd get the error I'm seeing if the devices tried to connect to a 5GHz network. My Airport Extreme also supported both 2.4 and 5GHz, so I don't know why the problem showed up now. Anyhow, since I have no need for a guest network, it occurred to me that, as a workaround, I could configure a 2.4GHz only guest network and then connect the Nokia devices to it and hope for the best (Nokia has been no help). However, I can't figure out a way, either via the app or the advanced settings of the web interface, to manage the individual radios for the guest network. Either both are on, or both are off. I'd appreciate any suggestions.SolvedOrbi: We really need separate SSID for 2.4 Ghz and 5Ghz or speed is limited to less than 200 Mbps
TLDR: With Orbi, my 5Ghz capable devices are "forced" to connect to 2.4 Ghz most of the time, slowing down speed. Tested against 3 different routers and my 5Ghz capable can connect to 5Ghz network all the time. I got the 3-pack Orbi from Costco and after numerous testing, ALL my devices are connecting to 2.4 Ghz MOST of the TIME rather than 5 Ghz. This slows down the transfer speed from 800 Mbps to a paltry 145 Mbps. Unfortunately, since the Orbi does not allow separate SSID for 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz, I cannot "force" my device to connect only to 5Ghz to get better speed. This means that I have a $499 router system that mostly allow only 2.4 Ghz. I previously have a Time Capsule and setup 2 separate SSID: - devices capable of 5Ghz will ONLY connect to 5Ghz SSID (MacBook, iPhone, etc.) - devices capable of ONLY 2.4 Ghz will connect to 2.4Ghz SSID (thermostate, etc.) There was no changes on the setup or placement of my devices when I replace the Time Capsule with the Orbi: 1). Orbi is in the middle of apartment, same location as my Time Capsule 2). Laptops are in the same area as before (desk, room 1, etc.) 3). Other devices are in the same area as before (printer, camera, thermostat, etc.). 4). No new devices that can interference with Wifi signal The ONLY changes is the Orbi Router and Satellite and now all my 5Ghz capable devices are connecting to 2.4 Ghz with Orbi. I powered down Orbi, put my Time Capsule back and BAM!! I got 5Ghz connection again. For a separate testing, I bought the following: - Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 - ASUS RTC3200 Setup both to have separate SSID and BAM! 5Ghz devices can connect to ONLY 5Ghz network. I hope Orbi will change this in the new upgrade. Otherwise, I have no need for a $499 router that "force" 5Ghz devices to connect to 2.4 Ghz network.
