Hi all, I am hoping for some answers/help here. I have a ReadyNAS NV+, model number on the back says RND4000-100 v3. Up until a couple weeks ago it's been a faithful and amazing machine. I had it on a time schedule for auto on/off and one morning it just didn't come on. No bad smells (fried electronics), hooked to a surge protector, etc. Pushing the power button did nothing. No sounds, no lights flickering, nothing. From reading these forums I assumed it was a bad PSU. I tried to secure one through Netgear, but no luck. I found one on eBay that I probably paid too much for (after more reading), replaced it, and now the fan comes on and the hard drive lights flash briefly, but that's it. The LCD screen remains dark and it doesn't sound like anything else is happening. In my panic to preserve my data I tried a couple different programs that claimed to be able to read the NAS' file system. I purchased one of them - RTools for Windows. From drive 1 it recovered the folder I wanted, but only maybe a quarter of it in size. Most of the sub folders are empty. I assume that this is because it was a 4 drive system and the data is spread out? This is turning out to be a crash course in NASs for me. I'm having a lot of mixed results, and to be honest I don't actually know what I'm doing. It seems prudent to ask for advice here before I actually screw something up. Ideally there would be a way to simply revive the NAS itself of course. If not, I guess I'm looking for the full spectrum of advice here. I have a MacBook and a Windows laptop in the house to troubleshoot with. Any help is greatly appreciated.1.3KViews0likes6CommentsNV+ - No fileshares - no frontview
I have a NV+ with 4 2TB disk. I haven't used it for 6 months and I suddenly became aware of that none of my network shares were available. After some investigation I found that this was not the only thing not working. I'm not gonna say that "I have no backup!!!!", because I think I do, at least of the most critical stuff (family pics and videos), but I still have 4TBs of other data on these drives I would like to keep (or else I wouldn't post here :-) ). The good: The NAS seems to boot fine, going through quota-check and ending up displaying the IP. All LEDs are OK. The IP is pingable The RAIDar sees the NV+ and gives green lights on all disks, fans and temp. Disk models, usage and temperatures are displayed. In the Win10 network overview my NAS appears as a storage device and media device. However, clicking on the icons is a dead end. The bad: Frontview is unavailable (says "connecting" for a while and then times out . ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT) No file shares are available No SSH or Telnet available (as I've understood from reading this would have to be enabled in frontview (which it hasn't)) FTP isn't working The strange: When pinging, I get at 1ms response time 4/5 times, but every 5th ping has a delay ranging from 100ms to "Request timed out" On the front of the NV+, all disk LEDs are solid green (no blink). Every few seconds the "act" light blinks, followed by the blue power button pulsating 5-6 times. Then a short break, before the "act" LED blinks again and the cycle repeats. I've not been able to find out if this corresponds with the prolonged ping-reply. I've neither found any match in the "led-language-list" for the NAS. Some times, a while after boot, RAIDar looses sight of the NAS and can't find it again before i reboot the NAS. (The ping still works though) Other info: I've done the OS reset. This succeedes, but there seems to be no change after it completes. The NV+ frontview has always been sloooooow. My initial thought when it wasn't working was that "something" has made the NV+ so slow that it doesn't respond (fast enough). Maybe no need to say, but multiple resets and powering the unit down for a day etc. have been tried. Altough I've not been using the NAS, my dlink ipcams have. They upload images on any movement from my back porch or garage through ftp to the nas. (which can be 100-1000 files a day, not that much isolated, but over the course of a year it's quite a few.) I've read about USB boot and TFTP boot, but the instructions are usally preceeded by "don't do this unless instructed to by netgear support". I'm not sure if I'm a few years to late to get any hints or tips regarding this unit, but any help is appreciated.1.5KViews0likes8Commentsreadynas backup

Backup jobs are scheduled in FrontView and they have been running fine for a few years now. All of a sudden, say 3 weeks ago, I started getting these errors on both drives. I took them both to a PC and ran chkdsk /f which found and repaired errors on both. I put the T-Th back on the NAS and performed a small test backup - success. That nigh, as scheduled, success. The M-W-F drive was then swapped in and the backup failed. I took it againg to chkdsk /f, errors were again found and repaired. Chksdk /f again for good measue, no errors detected. Put drive back into NAS and test backup failed with the same messages again. I will put the T-Th one in tomorrow and see what happens. I am perplexed. Any ideas? Greetings! I came home to find that my ReadyNAS NV+ (which is at least five years old) had frozen and was invisible to RAIDar. After being turned off and on again, the NV+ started the quota check. But it froze at 25.4%. I tried again, and this time it froze at 15.1%. I've read some other threads here, and it looks like this can happen when one of the drives starts to fail. However, I didn't receive any warnings or drive errors, and I don't know which drive is the problem drive (or if there even is a problem). I have two 1 TB drives in a simple RAID 1 configuration. So, here are my questions: 1. Does the frozen quota check mean that I definitely have a problem with one of the hard drives? 2. If the answer to 1 is yes, how can I tell which hard drive is the wonky one? I do have a backup by USB, so if I have to replace both drives I'll survive, but of course I'd rather not do that if I can avoid it. I've read through three or four threads here, but I'm still not sure how I should proceed. I know that one option is to go into the boot menu and skip the volume check, but the NetGear website insists that this should be done only after consultation with NetGear support. So, I'd be grateful for any advice or suggestions. Thanks! MatthewSolved6.3KViews0likes6CommentsCan ReadyNAS NV+ Sync with Amazon Cloud Drive?
I have a tried and true ReadyNAS NV+ with latest firmware (4.1.15). Any way I can sync shares with my Amazon Drive with this unit? Model: ReadyNAS NV+ [X-RAID] Serial: 23J30375002A4 Firmware: RAIDiator 4.1.15 [1.00a043] Memory: 256 MB [2.5-3-3-7]Solved4.4KViews0likes2CommentsReadyNAS NV+ v1 - corrupt frontview screen not fixed by factory reset
Had my second power supply fail last week. Found another in the UK, installed, and was greeted with this screen... I first tried OS re-install, but no change. I'm followed that with factory reset, and while it's still syncing, I'm getting the same screen in Frontview (cache cleared then reloaded). Will I need to wait for the sync to finish, or is there something else wrong? The NAS currently houses 4x2TB drives, and the data is backed up - hence the reset. Raidar setup after reset was normal. Prior to the resets, data was accessible and appeared normal. Thanks for your time. edit: Frontview might have been corrupt prior to the power supply failure. I hadn't pulled it up in months.Solved4.7KViews0likes15CommentsMacOS Sierra and ReadyNAS NV+ cannot find each other
Since upgrading my late 2009 iMac to Sierra, the connection to my beloved ReadyNAS keeping dropping off or will not connect at all. I can find the NAS via RAIDar and can also access media files via Apple TV ver 1 device (XBMC media player). I can 'see' the NAS via the browser URL. The NAS also appears in Finder in the 'Shared' section (NAS, AFP, CIFS options) however none of them gives me access to the files. Same issue when attempting to access NAS with MacBook Air (also upgraded to Sierra). I had none of these issues with the previus MacOS version. This is really really frustrating. Any advise would be most appreciated. I would hate to dump this great NAS because of what might be a trivial issue. HELP!! Many thanks.2.8KViews0likes1CommentReadyNas NV+ (v1) Upgrade Suggestions
Hello, I am a long time ReadyNAS NV and NV+ User, I upgraded to the NV+ SPARC after my NV died well before NETGEAR was involved, and have been happy with it since, I have upgraded the memory to 1GB, upgraded the storage twice with XRAID, run it on 1 1GB switch and replaced the fan with a slightly quieter version when I had to move it to my office instead of the basement. The problem I am having is it is getting a little long in the tooth such that read/write performance is VERY LOW in comparison to new systems. Some of this could be the CIFS/Samba with Windows 10/8.1, but some of it is age. When transferring large files, speed drops down to an abysmal 1-2MBps, smaller files are better but only go into the 5-6MBps range. And when I try to stream video over SMB to my Boxee Box (running Kodi) it can studder. I had just tried to transfer 100GB and it said it would take 24 hours!, where a USB 2.0 thumb drive attached to the computer took about an hour. A long time ago (In a galaxy far far away :) for the Jedi Council ), this used to be the reverse. Transfers to the NAS were exponentially faster than USB. So... While it works fine, it is probably time to upgrade. I originally bought the NV+ 4 bay since it was the powerful prosumer model and did some high-load stuff, running a lab of about 12 systems at home. Now, I have converted most of that all over to 1 large VMWare system, besides the Sun BLADE 2500 Solaris 10 workstation :) and while the NV+ introduced iSCSI, I never used it, but if performance shows, it probably would not work very well. The models have diverged a bit, so not sure where to look now. What I am looking for is a good 4 bay prosumer model, similar to the NV+ of this time, that I can do the standard Samba, NFS and even iSCSI with good performance (Bonding network links perhaps), something that won't make media stutter when I stream it, and something that could possibly transcode it as well although It doesn't have to be Plex as I usually connect internally to my network via OpenVPN. The final part is the price. Since my NV+ is working, I don't want to spend an arm and a leg for a new unit, I have the WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor) to think about (answering the why do you need a new one when the old one works... :) ). Thank you for your time.Solved7.2KViews0likes13CommentsBackup to USB fails due to lack of space; but it's an empty drive and there are no files on it!
I've upgraded my NV+ v1 (4.1.14) with 4x 2TB drives and I ran into the 4k block size problem. So I'm trying to backup my device so I can factory reset it. The current size of the volume is 1.3TB, so I took out one of the 2TB drives to use as a backup via USB. 1.3TB should fit easily into 2TB, right? I added the 2TB drive to the front USB port and formatted it as ext3, it shows up just fine in the shares and has the expected free space. So I made a backup task and source=share/ dest=USB/Sharename/ and ran it. it runs for a few minues and stops with this error: Error encountered copying data from source path ==> /USB_HDD_4_1//blah due to lack of disk space. [Job 003] I look at the USB drive and it is FULL. Zero bytes available. It has made a few folders, but they are all empty. What is going on? Are there hidden files (.appledouble, etc)? I ran BlueHarvest on the volume before the backup and it deleted a bunch of these. But not 2TB's worth. I use this volume mainly with my mac... is there anything I'm missing? Any help is appreciated! ThanksSolved4.3KViews0likes9CommentsCooked NV+ (RND4000)
Model: ReadyNAS NV+ RDN4000 v3 Firmware: sticker says v4.1.7, maybe upgraded once 3 years ago Drives: 4x Western Digital Cavair Green 2TB Array: RAID 5 I've had my NV+ running for many years but like an idiot recently I let stuff build up over the front intake. Short story: it's cooked. The PSU smelled like burning plastic and given the heat coming off it I'm lucky I didn't have a fire. It now won't power at all. I'm looking to buy a new enclosure to house my disks (I really hope they are good) but NV+'s seem to be in short supply and cost more than newer units. Is it safe to buy a newer Netgear unit and just push my drives into it? Is there anything I need to watch out for before I power the new unit on? Thanks for any advice, Skrrp.Solved3.2KViews0likes4Comments
