NV+
21 TopicsReadyNAS NV+ -failure
Hi all, I am hoping for some answers/help here. I have a ReadyNAS NV+, model number on the back says RND4000-100 v3. Up until a couple weeks ago it's been a faithful and amazing machine. I had it on a time schedule for auto on/off and one morning it just didn't come on. No bad smells (fried electronics), hooked to a surge protector, etc. Pushing the power button did nothing. No sounds, no lights flickering, nothing. From reading these forums I assumed it was a bad PSU. I tried to secure one through Netgear, but no luck. I found one on eBay that I probably paid too much for (after more reading), replaced it, and now the fan comes on and the hard drive lights flash briefly, but that's it. The LCD screen remains dark and it doesn't sound like anything else is happening. In my panic to preserve my data I tried a couple different programs that claimed to be able to read the NAS' file system. I purchased one of them - RTools for Windows. From drive 1 it recovered the folder I wanted, but only maybe a quarter of it in size. Most of the sub folders are empty. I assume that this is because it was a 4 drive system and the data is spread out? This is turning out to be a crash course in NASs for me. I'm having a lot of mixed results, and to be honest I don't actually know what I'm doing. It seems prudent to ask for advice here before I actually screw something up. Ideally there would be a way to simply revive the NAS itself of course. If not, I guess I'm looking for the full spectrum of advice here. I have a MacBook and a Windows laptop in the house to troubleshoot with. Any help is greatly appreciated.1.3KViews0likes6CommentsNV+ - No fileshares - no frontview
I have a NV+ with 4 2TB disk. I haven't used it for 6 months and I suddenly became aware of that none of my network shares were available. After some investigation I found that this was not the only thing not working. I'm not gonna say that "I have no backup!!!!", because I think I do, at least of the most critical stuff (family pics and videos), but I still have 4TBs of other data on these drives I would like to keep (or else I wouldn't post here :-) ). The good: The NAS seems to boot fine, going through quota-check and ending up displaying the IP. All LEDs are OK. The IP is pingable The RAIDar sees the NV+ and gives green lights on all disks, fans and temp. Disk models, usage and temperatures are displayed. In the Win10 network overview my NAS appears as a storage device and media device. However, clicking on the icons is a dead end. The bad: Frontview is unavailable (says "connecting" for a while and then times out . ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT) No file shares are available No SSH or Telnet available (as I've understood from reading this would have to be enabled in frontview (which it hasn't)) FTP isn't working The strange: When pinging, I get at 1ms response time 4/5 times, but every 5th ping has a delay ranging from 100ms to "Request timed out" On the front of the NV+, all disk LEDs are solid green (no blink). Every few seconds the "act" light blinks, followed by the blue power button pulsating 5-6 times. Then a short break, before the "act" LED blinks again and the cycle repeats. I've not been able to find out if this corresponds with the prolonged ping-reply. I've neither found any match in the "led-language-list" for the NAS. Some times, a while after boot, RAIDar looses sight of the NAS and can't find it again before i reboot the NAS. (The ping still works though) Other info: I've done the OS reset. This succeedes, but there seems to be no change after it completes. The NV+ frontview has always been sloooooow. My initial thought when it wasn't working was that "something" has made the NV+ so slow that it doesn't respond (fast enough). Maybe no need to say, but multiple resets and powering the unit down for a day etc. have been tried. Altough I've not been using the NAS, my dlink ipcams have. They upload images on any movement from my back porch or garage through ftp to the nas. (which can be 100-1000 files a day, not that much isolated, but over the course of a year it's quite a few.) I've read about USB boot and TFTP boot, but the instructions are usally preceeded by "don't do this unless instructed to by netgear support". I'm not sure if I'm a few years to late to get any hints or tips regarding this unit, but any help is appreciated.1.5KViews0likes8CommentsUpgrade from RAIDiator 4.1.10 to 5.3.13 on a NV+ (RNV2-S2-0000) ?
Hello, on the back of the ReadyNAS NV+ (4 drives), I see the P/N RNV2-S2-0000, but another P/N if I search with the string NV+ : RND4000v2. So is the 5.3.13 firmware for RND4000v2 good for the NV+ ? If it isnt, what is the last firmware for the NV+ (4 drives) branded RNV2-S2-0000 ? Thanks in advance.Replacement disk not recognised Readynas nv+ RND4000
I had 2 x 2TB drives in my nv+. One of the drives failed so I replaced it with a new drive. (Made sure its on compatibility list.) It's supposed to be hot swappable, but: - When I place the new drive in the bay. The sync does not begin. It's not recognised in either Raidar or Frontview. In fact, it causes frontview to become completely unresponsive. The only way of getting frontview to work again is to rebool the nv+ with just the single working drive in it. - I've tried powering down too and putting the drive in when powered down. But the nv+ just hangs on 'Booting...' forever (like 15hrs). - I've also tested the drive on a windows machine and it works fine. Could the nv+ itself be faulty or does anyone know anything else I can try? thanks...readynas backup

Backup jobs are scheduled in FrontView and they have been running fine for a few years now. All of a sudden, say 3 weeks ago, I started getting these errors on both drives. I took them both to a PC and ran chkdsk /f which found and repaired errors on both. I put the T-Th back on the NAS and performed a small test backup - success. That nigh, as scheduled, success. The M-W-F drive was then swapped in and the backup failed. I took it againg to chkdsk /f, errors were again found and repaired. Chksdk /f again for good measue, no errors detected. Put drive back into NAS and test backup failed with the same messages again. I will put the T-Th one in tomorrow and see what happens. I am perplexed. Any ideas? Have two NV+ available (original Netgear post Infrant v1s), upgraded to 1G, set aside drive less, were working fine after being upgraded to 4.1.15. If you send me a prepaid shipping label link, I'd be willing to pay for =good= packaging. Would hate for them to end up as eWaste if someone can repurpose them.SolvedNV+ RND4000 Power Supply Failure: What are my options?
A few months ago the power supply died on my NV+ v1 (RND4250-100NAS). I tried to contact support as suggested in some other forum posts, but couldn't get anywhere with the online form – it only tells me my product is EOL and provides no options to actually contact anyone or open a case. I've read other forum posts from just a few months ago suggesting it might be possible to get a replacement PSU: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Using-your-ReadyNAS/ReadyNAS-NV-Fails-to-Power-Up-after-Power-Failure/m-p/1100816 https://community.netgear.com/t5/ReadyNAS-Hardware-Compatibility/ReadyNAS-NV-won-t-turn-on-power-supply-issue-27356934/m-p/1124966#U1124966 I've also seen some as far back as a couple years ago saying there are no more PSUs available. It's also not clear whether or not my unit falls under the Service Action, and whether or not that actually matters. So i'm not sure what my options are. I've done all the basic troubleshooting steps like trying different power outlets, and swapping power cords. I remember smelling a burnt electrical smell the time i tried to power it on but it wouldn't. Zero activity since then – no lights, sounds, or anything. It's almost certainly a failed PSU. Serial number: 21T193RE0049ReadyNAS NV+ Frozen at Quota Check
Greetings! I came home to find that my ReadyNAS NV+ (which is at least five years old) had frozen and was invisible to RAIDar. After being turned off and on again, the NV+ started the quota check. But it froze at 25.4%. I tried again, and this time it froze at 15.1%. I've read some other threads here, and it looks like this can happen when one of the drives starts to fail. However, I didn't receive any warnings or drive errors, and I don't know which drive is the problem drive (or if there even is a problem). I have two 1 TB drives in a simple RAID 1 configuration. So, here are my questions: 1. Does the frozen quota check mean that I definitely have a problem with one of the hard drives? 2. If the answer to 1 is yes, how can I tell which hard drive is the wonky one? I do have a backup by USB, so if I have to replace both drives I'll survive, but of course I'd rather not do that if I can avoid it. I've read through three or four threads here, but I'm still not sure how I should proceed. I know that one option is to go into the boot menu and skip the volume check, but the NetGear website insists that this should be done only after consultation with NetGear support. So, I'd be grateful for any advice or suggestions. Thanks! MatthewSolved6.2KViews0likes6CommentsCan ReadyNAS NV+ Sync with Amazon Cloud Drive?
I have a tried and true ReadyNAS NV+ with latest firmware (4.1.15). Any way I can sync shares with my Amazon Drive with this unit? Model: ReadyNAS NV+ [X-RAID] Serial: 23J30375002A4 Firmware: RAIDiator 4.1.15 [1.00a043] Memory: 256 MB [2.5-3-3-7]Solved4.4KViews0likes2CommentsReadyNAS NV+ v1 - corrupt frontview screen not fixed by factory reset
Had my second power supply fail last week. Found another in the UK, installed, and was greeted with this screen... I first tried OS re-install, but no change. I'm followed that with factory reset, and while it's still syncing, I'm getting the same screen in Frontview (cache cleared then reloaded). Will I need to wait for the sync to finish, or is there something else wrong? The NAS currently houses 4x2TB drives, and the data is backed up - hence the reset. Raidar setup after reset was normal. Prior to the resets, data was accessible and appeared normal. Thanks for your time. edit: Frontview might have been corrupt prior to the power supply failure. I hadn't pulled it up in months.Solved4.7KViews0likes15Comments
