WAN Failover Functionality for RBE970 Router
I would like to propose an essential feature enhancement for the BE27000 Mesh WiFi System (RBE973SB) Router, one of the top-tier solutions for home WiFi. Given the increasing number of people working from home, a reliable and uninterrupted internet connection has become crucial. I suggest implementing WAN failover functionality that would allow one of the LAN ports to be configured as a secondary WAN port. This would enable users to connect to a backup internet source, such as fibre or LTE, ensuring automatic failover in case the primary connection goes down. This feature would significantly enhance the reliability of home networks, providing users with seamless connectivity and preventing disruptions during critical work, video conferencing, and streaming activities. Considering the RBE970's premium positioning, adding this functionality would further solidify its reputation as the ultimate home WiFi solution. Amazing Orbi, Orbo Pro, Nighthawk Routers, DSL Routers, Mobile Routers have service blocking (only for IPv4 why ever) - limiting the LAN -> Internet access (why ever somebody want to do this) but there is no control to manage firewall rules for Internet/WAN -> LAN. When can we expect a workable UI ot manage firewall rules for IPv4 and IPv6 LAN->Internet and Internet/WAN->LAN please? And then support for a ISP changing IPv6 prefix (ie. if the ISP does change the IPv6 prefix because they use rapid deployment (6rd) where the prefix is linked to the IPv4 address. And every time a user is seeking or this the Netgear mods reply to use Service Blocking - what of course does not work for WAN/Internet -> LAN. My Orbi AC3000/RBR50 has the first three bytes of the subnet mask greyed out and preset to 255. That means my subnet mask can be only 255.255.255.0 to 255.255.255.252. My suggestion is to allow at least two bytes of network space. For example , allow the subnet mask to be 255.255.0.0, or 255.255.128.0. At the same time, allow the DHCP range to start anywhere within that subnet. So, for example if my network is 10.20.0.0 / 255.255.0.0, allow me to choose where DHCP starts in that range. So for instance, allow it to start at 10.20.30.0 and run through 10.20.30.254. Reason I'm asking for this is that I'm a little picky about assigning my devices on my network to human-readable IP addresses. It helps me with troubleshooting. By allowing a full 16-bit network space (with a 10.x.x.x private network), I have many more of the tens and hundreds in the third byte to assign my devices to. Thanks!Allow Custom DHCP Settings
My Orbi 770 mesh was not cheap. In fact, it was expensive. I purchased it right after it was released. I use pi-hole to block ads AND manage local DNS. The problem is that the Orbi's DNS proxy will not forward the unqualified or ".local" qualified names internally to my pi-hole server. In addition, I have had some intermittently flaky behavior on resolving some DNS names, specifically Docker Hub. I have tried multiple workarounds, nothing works. Please don't tell me to manually manage my DNS configurations on all of my clients. That's unreasonable. Please don't tell me to offload my DHCP to my pi-hole node. I don't want to mess with needing to stand up a DHCP node for my guest network. This should be simple enough. Why, oh why, can there not be an advanced config option to manually adjust the client parameters provided by the Orbi DHCP server? Have a checkbox that allows you to go in and directly change the primary and secondary DNS servers. It seems straight-forward to me; but I admit I don't have to manage the firmware code base. If it is too much, please tell me with a reasonable explanation as to why that is the case. Please consider my request. I know there are others Orbi users out there in the same boat.
Hide SSID password on router home page
Netgear, please DO NOT DISPLAY the WiFi passwords in the clear for the primary and guest networks on the default Basic -> Home page of the http://orbilogin.com web interface. The passwords should not be displayed on this page at all, instead it would be more helpful to display the encryption being used on both the Primary and Guest WiFi networks for this status page. Please correct this security issue! The password can still be shown when uncovered on the WiFi Settings pages if needed, else it should only show *********** to hide the SSID password. There is absolutely NO REASON to display PASSWORDS IN CLEAR TEXT on the home page!Orbi RBS750 won't connect to Router Fix
I just purchased a new Orbi RBS750 to add to my AX4200 System. I ran into the problem that seems to be common. It would not connect to my router. After a few frustrating days of searching for a solution (none of which worked for me). Almost every fix lead to updating the firmware. Which I could not do since the RBS750 would never connect to the router. After much trial and error I was able to resolve this myself. I am posting what I did here to hopefully help others.It may not work for everyone, but it worked for me. Issue: RBS750 has a Pulsing White Light / Won’t Sync with Router / If hard wired to the router it was showing up in the Connected Devices list and not identified as a Satellite on the web interface tool. No way to update firmware. On a PC or Mac go to the downloads page on Netgear / Orbi site Download the latest firmware for the RBS750 Extract the zip file to your desktop Reset the RBS750 to factory settings Connect it to Orbi CBR752 Modem / Router via CAT 5 or 6 cable Power up the RBS750 On a PC connected to the Orbi network go to Orbilogin Web Interface Locate the RBS750, Mine was identified as a Connected Devices and not as a Satellite Make a note of its IP address On your PC open a new tab on your browser Go the theRBS750’s IP address – It may take a while to load up. Be patient. The web interface for the RBS750 Satellite should open Once it loads go to Update Firmware Select the upgrade file you extracted in step 3 Upload the file to the RBS750 Allow the update to complete and for the RBS750 to reboot After a few minutes it should sync with your Orbi Router and connect to the Orbi Network Remove the network cableUrgent: intertet usage by device!
We urgently need internet usage monitoring!. Since I switched to my orbi ac3000 my internet usage spiked 40%. Same usage same devices over the last 3 years only difference the router. Need to switch back to my old timecapule to avoid paying $10 to comcast for each addition 50G. Come on guys!realtime bandwidth monitoring by device
It would be great if you could see realtime bandwidth per device for the netgear r7000, similar to Google Wifi and Eero. It would be a really useful info and diagnostic tool to see what devices are currently taking up bandwidth. It would be great if this was added to the router web administration page as well theNetgear Genie and/or Netgear Up apps. I've attached a screenshot of how this feature looks on Google Wifi.
