Parental Controls

I really like the Access Control feature, which allows me to block access to internet for my childrens devices (selected by MAC address) during the night, while at the same time still allowing my wife and I to access internet. But, is there a way to have Access Control turn on/off automatically each evening? It seems that if you could just allow it to be connected with the existing Schedule feature this would be real simple to add. If this is not currently possible, can you PLEASE add this ability to the WNDR3400v3? Or is there a better way to do this?44KViews4likes3CommentsParental Controls: Blocking device based on time schedule
There are multiple inactive community discussions dating back several years with people asking for the ability to set time schedules for individual devices (using MAC addresses or whatever). For example, I want to turn off wifi to my kid's device at a certain time of evening on a school night, but not affect all devices. I may want to have a different time schedule for a younger child than an older child. I may want to limit access to wifi at different times of the day. There should be clear, straight-forward solutions to these issues. Here is a response from Netgear from back in 2015: "Re: Blocking device based on time schedule NETGEAR is working to implement the feature in the near future. You may check the updated FAQs. http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/24580/~/c3000%2Fc3700-faqs Regards, JamesGL Community Team" Why is this so difficult? Why doesn't Netgear answer this request after so many years?? This should be at the top of the list of any parental feature offered!!1.9KViews4likes1CommentParental controls misses so much!
I have a Nighthawk R700 router which I bought to replace a perfectly decent router specifically because I wanted the parental controls. Unfortunately, the parental controls seem to miss as much as they block. For example, my son was supposed to be doing math but what he was really doing was playing games on various .io domains, none of which were blocked. Diep.io, slither.io, wilds.io, etc. None of them were blocked, even though the 'games' category is checked for this time block. Another example is lordofthecraft.net which is a gaming forum for an online minecraft multiplayer rpg. I have both 'games' and 'forums and message boards' checked for this time block, and yet he is still able to read and post on lordofthecraft.net. For the .io games I can blacklist, but the forum is something he is allowed to access during his screen time. I really don't want to have to go in and blacklist it every morning andthen take it off the blacklist every afternoon! That is the whole point of having the parental controls, so I don't have to deal with this garbage manually. I just don't understand why the Genie parental controls are so crappy....why they are constantly missing domains that should be blocked. I mean I guess if someone intentionally mis-characterizes their domain I could understand it but these are legitimate websites that are findable in google search using keywords like 'games' and 'forum' so why can't the Netgear parental controls correctly identify them and treat them accordingly? As a last resort, Netgearshould include a feature in their parental controls software to allow adding a specific domain into a time block, rather than just a blanket whitelist/blacklist! At least that way I could put the sites in myself when the parental control software fails.Solved8.4KViews1like3Comments
