I really like the Access Control feature, which allows me to block access to internet for my childrens devices (selected by MAC address) during the night, while at the same time still allowing my wife and I to access internet. But, is there a way to have Access Control turn on/off automatically each evening? It seems that if you could just allow it to be connected with the existing Schedule feature this would be real simple to add. If this is not currently possible, can you PLEASE add this ability to the WNDR3400v3? Or is there a better way to do this?44KViews4likes3CommentsNeed time restrictions in parental controls
Just bought a Netgear AC1200 to replace my old Linksys Wifi router. My old router allowed me to set up time restrictions on specific devices, so that the wifi was cut off to my kids' devices late at night. I thought from reading the box that Netgear could also do this, but I can't find it in the parental controls. Please let me know how to set this up - thanks!SolvedParental Controls - Checking Router Firmware
Hi We have bought a Nighthawk R7000 specifically for the Parental Controls feature. This is for a business who wish to block users from accessing certain websites during business hours. But, 2 users may access certain blocked sites at any time. We checked the router is using the latest firmware. We've created the OpenDNS Account and we can log on to their website OK. The router is using their DNS Servers (208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220) We've set up Time Blocks and we can set Whitelists. But, the Whitelist doesn't work. If we Whitelist www.linkedin.com, for instance, it works for a day or so, then blocks everyone. So we decided that a Bypass Account would do the job. This was set up within the OpenDNS web page. For this to work we need to use NetGear Genie (Downloaded for Windows from http://www.netgear.com/lpc) to browse the web, logging on to the Router with the bypass Account. This is where it goes horribly wrong. We can open Netgear Genie on the PC, but if we click the Parental Controls tab we get a message "Checking Router Firmware We're making sure you have firmware that supports Live Parental Controls. It looks like you might not be connecting to the internet through a supported NETGEAR router........." Does anyone have any suggestions as to how we may overcome this issue? Many thanks Michael DSolved12KViews0likes28CommentsChange Genie Login Architecture on desktop version
NETGEARGenie logs in automatically. However, if parental controls are set up and being used on a home network or the computer, the controls are essentially open for anyone to shut off, because the application automatically logs in. I recommend adding architecture for loggin in to Genie on the desktop computer version or else adding a means to require a username and password before changes to the Parental Controls can be made. Unfortunately, the only alternative is to only maintain the moile app for controling the parental controls and then each time we need to utilize the Genie controls or functionality in the desktop version we must reinstall the program, make the changes or troubleshoot the issue and then delete it again. Obviously this is not ideal nor user friendly. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.11KViews0likes0CommentsParental controls misses so much!
I have a Nighthawk R700 router which I bought to replace a perfectly decent router specifically because I wanted the parental controls. Unfortunately, the parental controls seem to miss as much as they block. For example, my son was supposed to be doing math but what he was really doing was playing games on various .io domains, none of which were blocked. Diep.io, slither.io, wilds.io, etc. None of them were blocked, even though the 'games' category is checked for this time block. Another example is lordofthecraft.net which is a gaming forum for an online minecraft multiplayer rpg. I have both 'games' and 'forums and message boards' checked for this time block, and yet he is still able to read and post on lordofthecraft.net. For the .io games I can blacklist, but the forum is something he is allowed to access during his screen time. I really don't want to have to go in and blacklist it every morning andthen take it off the blacklist every afternoon! That is the whole point of having the parental controls, so I don't have to deal with this garbage manually. I just don't understand why the Genie parental controls are so crappy....why they are constantly missing domains that should be blocked. I mean I guess if someone intentionally mis-characterizes their domain I could understand it but these are legitimate websites that are findable in google search using keywords like 'games' and 'forum' so why can't the Netgear parental controls correctly identify them and treat them accordingly? As a last resort, Netgearshould include a feature in their parental controls software to allow adding a specific domain into a time block, rather than just a blanket whitelist/blacklist! At least that way I could put the sites in myself when the parental control software fails.Solved8.4KViews1like3CommentsNETGEAR D7000: Controllo Genitoriale
Come posso risolvere questo problema?7.5KViews0likes10CommentsNetgear Genie Can't Identify Router and I can't use routerlogin.net
This has all started because I want to use the parental controls. I downloaded the Genie app on my laptop (a windows 10 pc) and ran it....it shows I am connected to the internet, but the programm cannot find my router. I have also tried this on my android phone with the SAME issue. I CAN log into my router via 192.168.1.1 but i CANNOT log into it via routerlogn.net or .com. I get the following message: " You are not connected to your Router’s WiFi network. To access routerlogin.net, your device must be connected to your Router’s WiFi network. Check your current connection and try again." I have restarted the router, hard rest the router, restarted the computer, and uninstalled and reinstalled the software. This is seriously confusing....I can connect to the internet, it sees the wireless network I'm on, but NOT my router. What gives? My firmware version is showing as: DD-WRT v3.0-r28815M (01/15/16) on the web interface I can access. But online, the product support shows a TOTALLY different labeling system...could this be it? I'm hesitate to do a firmware upgrade when it looks so different for fear I'll brick the router. I just want to limit my kids time vegging out on YouTube watching minecraft videos. ANY help is appreciated!!5.2KViews0likes3CommentsNetgear Genie not connecting to open DNS for parental controls on Android or Windows 8
Hi everyone. I am not the most tech savvy person, but I am learning. I have a very resourceful 15 year old I am desperately trying to protect from various websites and this issue is driving me crazy as it seems to be exactly what I'm looking for but simply not working. I have an Open DNS account I created online, I have certain sites blocked through that accunt oline which is connected to my Netgear. But I can type them in and visit them from any device connected to the internet via this router. When I try to login in to the Open DNS, I get this an error message saying to verify that I'm connected to the internet and try again. I am obviously connected to the internet as I'm online posting to this forum. Is anyone else experiencing this? How was it resolved? Please help!!!! Thanks in advance.4.7KViews0likes1CommentAuto login for NETGEARGenie
BLUF: NETGEARGenie logs in automatically. We have parental controls set up, but it's essentially open for anyone to shut it off because the application automatically logs in. I cannot find anywhere to stop this or for that matter where I would even enter a password for the application.4.5KViews0likes4Comments
