Hello, Whenever I try to update the Performance Optimization Database in the QoS, it says that it hasn't been updated, despite it from the end of 2015 (version 1.80,1.0.26 from 12/28/2015). My router has the most recent firmware update available, as shown in the picture. I had it set to automatically update before, so I didn't think about it too much. I updated my parents' R7000 to a newer firmware, and after I checked their QoS settings. They already had a newer version on the database, and when I hit the update button, their router was offered and even newer version (unfortunately, I don't have that version date or number notated). I started to research my issue when I came accross another thread about the same thing ( https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-WiFi-Routers/R8000-QOS-how-do-you-set-new-applications/m-p/1244609#M51975 ) and the official response from ElaineM was that "We will be providing regular updates on the QoS database on our routers with Dynamic QoS" and "We will inform the community if it becomes available" on April 6th. I can't find any more recent info on this problem. Is the R8000 getting any more QoS Performance Optimization Database updates? Why is it currently not pulling down the current updates? When can we expect a solution to this issue? I love this router to an unreasonable degree (it helped me fix most of my network issues, has amazing Wi-Fi range, and very rarely needs any tinkering or reboots if any issues do arise), and would like to keep all aspects of it updated. Thank you for your help.Solved20KViews4likes30CommentsQoS not working
When I had a 100/10 cable Internet connection, I used the QoS feature to keep buffer bloat to a minimum. I upgraded to a fiber 300/300 connection today, and when I set the QoS to 300/300, I get about half that speed and buffer bloat is still there. I updated the firmware. It didn't fix the problem. Can this router not QoS a connection this fast?SolvedA Plea to Developers: Traffic Shaping, QoS, & Bufferbloat Handling
As of today (firmware v. 2.1.2.18), the QoS page in the configuration utility remains opaque, with only a Speedtest app available to tell me what my upload & download speeds look like. For me, with the Orbi doing the routing, & the upstream modem in bridging mode, bufferbloat remains a problem. I suspect many other Orbi users see the same thing: http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest. Other manufacturers address this in their home/SOHO market routers; I suspect under the hood they're using something like codel/fq_codel. It's not rocket science. Netgear needs to address this in the Orbi. If it doesn't, it will drive its customers into the arms of its competitors.ORBI RBR50 / QoS
Hi folks - bear with me if this is a duplicate, the search I did helped but did not isolate within forum. I am on firmware 1.12.0.18 - after installing manually. That was not fun as it was just out of the box and I was not quite ready for messing about. Anyway I headed over to QoS and in essence found it empty - speed test might be useful but not as the sole QoS entry. I want to QoS by device and by service (as my kids hog bandwidth whilst I am movie streaming or video conferencing) and that is one of the reasons I went for Orbi instead of other Whole Home systems - you know the more admin type functions that are advertised So simply put ... where will these be available please, otherwise I may as well use a cheaper solution that also does not have this function. Thank you - any input appreciatedOrbi Wired Speeds Unacceptably Slow - Wifi Not Impacted - QoS Issues?
Ever since I have received my Orbi, I have been plauged with wired speed connection issues. My wired connection speed continues to be throttled from 10-20Mbps no matter what steps I take. My wireless speeds across all devices are not impacted at all and get a steady 120-145mbps on every device I can run a speed test on. I run Fast.com, Ookla, and Google's speedtest. Ironically, the Orbi speedtest in the QoS section shows a steady 140-150mbps when running. I have done the following steps to troubleshoot this issue: - Changed wired device I am testing. I have tested 2 laptops (one Toshiba, one Macbook Pro) and my desktop (specs below) - Changed modems (Motorola SB6180 and another from when the Cox tech came out) - Replaced all ethernet cords with new cords from a different source (running from the modem to the Orbi base station, then base station to wired device) - Updated my ethernet drivers (tried various versions, old and new, on both the Toshiba laptop and my desktop) - Factory reset my Orbi 6 times (using both software reset in UI and the paperclip method; twice on all three firmware Netgear has released since I received the Orbi) - Turned off MU-MIMO, Beamforming, WMM QoS, all at different times and in different orders - After running the first Orbi speedtest in the QoS section (after the 2nd firware update added it), I have applied AND not applied the Dynamic QoS prompt (Applying the setting gives me a slight boost in speed about 5mpbs) This is not my first go around with any sort of home networking, but this is definitely the most frustrating. I have never seen a router throttle wired speeds like this and it makes no sense to me why. The QoS page is sorely lacking of any possible information. How do I know it is turned on? Why does the Dynamic QoS prompt only come up a single time and never again? Where are the options to apply QoS to certain IPs/devices? At this point in time, I am 99.9% certain all my problems are stemming from the QoS settings of this router, which are apparently insanely aggressive for wired connections. I would love to hear from anyone that either has experienced these issues or has some sort of new idea to troublshoot. If any Netgear reps are reading, I would truly like to hear from you as what else I can provide in order to get this situated. I want to love the Orbi, but having slow wired speeds is absolutely unacceptable for my day to day experience. Please help me!
