Hello there! I keep receiving emails from Netgear regarding urgent Software Update fixes for my router, prompting me to update the firmware (my current version is V1.0.2.100_1.0.82). I did download the latest firmware version for the R8500, directly from Netgear: (https://www.netgear.com/support/product/D8500.aspx#Firmware Version 1.0.3.29) But when I try to install the file, via Netgear Genie (www.routerlogin.net) I get an error message: This firmware file is incorrect! Please get the firmware file again and make sure it is the correct firmware for this product. When I perform a Firmware Update Check via routerlogin.net, I get this message: No new firmware version available. In short, I'm stuck. Did anybody exprience a similar catch 22 situation? Are there any workarounds? Thank you in advance. MattSolved2.8KViews0likes4CommentsBridge Nighthawk routers: x8 r8500 to x10 r9000
Hi all, I just bought an upgrade r9000 (x10) from my current r8500 (x8) router due to plex and 10gbe lan. The issue I'm having is that my router is at one end of the house, and prior I used eero routers in conjunction to reach all areas of my house, but the biggest problem here is that eero sucks at having simultaneous connections, especially playing video games on 3-4 pcs! So instead of getting rid of my r8500, I was hoping to get rid of my eero. I'm hoping to use my r8500 as a bridge in the middle of the house so it extends the reach to the end of the other side. I tried #1 rated av powerline 2000 and was getting extremely low speeds vs wifi, so that was returned since it didn't work. As a bridge, wouldn't this work since both are supposedly able to transfer fast speeds (especially within lan)? I tried looking at how to bridge these two together but couldn't find anything. Help and insight would be great! Thank you!Solved6.6KViews0likes2CommentsCan’t Connect to Router Configured as Wireless AP
Hello everyone. So my wireless router is set to wireless AP mode and my modem is on bridge mode, and now I cannot access the internet at all or the router settings to try and fix it. I’ve even tried plugging in an ethernet cord to try and access the router settings but nothing seems to be working and I have no idea how to fix this. If someone knows how to resolve this issue suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)Solved8.1KViews0likes2CommentsBricked R8500 - absolute worst experience
So I bought this dec 2016 and now I finally wanted to unbox it and use it. After changign the SSID - the thing bricked. Now its stuck in a endless solid amber light reboot cycle. Here is what I tried. Factory reset - NG 30/30/30 reset - NG static ip + ping + tftp - NG keeps tiiming out 1st call to support in hopes to rma this thing - spent 2.5 hours waiting only to be told i had to try the same things while they are on the phone (at this time with the wait this long I was not at home). 2nd call today - finally got through, was asked to switch power supplu to wall outlet (seriously???) then they hung up on 3rd call waiting - worst support ever, POS product (i have netgear routers from 4-5 years ago that still work fine). At this point all I want is to RMA this brick so I can have a workign one.... Seriously you ask people to spend $300 on a product and then what?Solved6.6KViews0likes15CommentsR8500 Log Files Not Clearing
I've setup daily log file emails. After receiving the message I usually check the log and then clear it. The next day I get the same log file. I've tried clearing, refresshing and applying but I still get the log file daily... for the most part. Sometimes it actually gets cleared. What's going on?Solved4.7KViews0likes13CommentsX8 (R8500) MU-MIMO Enabled Yet?
I love this router, but the final standards were approved months ago and we still don't have MU-MIMO support, etc. It's listed on the product page for the router, but it doesn't support it. And before anyone says "do you have anything that supports MU-MIMO?" -- I don't care! You advertise it and prominently display it, so why don't you support it? I paid a LOT of money for what I thought was going to be the top-of-the-line router, only to find that some features are forthcoming in a future update. I have a a R8500 nighthawk router. On the box, it says that mu mimo support will be released by 2015. As of August 2016, it still hasn't been supported by that router...But, I am not complaining. Here is a little background, sometimes I use a cheap (but usually good enough) internet connection with speeds of a little over 5 Mb download and 1Mb upload. I have two Xbox ones and a lot of digital games, both of which consistently need updates. I tend to use the xboxes on that connection about one night a week and I would always have to set aside time before I play to update the xboxes. When I bought the R8500, I was hoping that mu mimo would expedite the updating process. If my understanding of this feature is correct, I would be able to receive a file once and send them to my two devices. (Windows 10 has a feature where updates can be sent from one computer to another through a LAN, which is cool but irrelevant.) My questions are: one, will the mu mimo support on the Nighthawk R8500 speed up my system and game updates on my xbox ones (assuming the downloads are the same on each xbox) and two, when is the firmware with mu mimo support expected to be released by Netgear? Note to moderators or admins: I am pretty sure the lack of mu mimo firmware support issue on the R8500 has been brought up before. I just couldn't find it on this forum. So, if you want to move this post, you may do so by all means...Solved3.5KViews0likes3CommentsNightHawk R8500 Shutdown - Overheating?
Noticed this afternoon that my R8500 was off. I thought that the power strip had failed so I moved the router's power adapter directly to the wall and it powered back up. After an hour or so, I came back into the office to find it off again. The router felt slightly warm so I elevated it to get circulation underneath it just in case. I also moved it to another power strip and monitored it for a bit. I sat down to play BO3 for a bit and after about an hour the router shut off once again. This time I felt the router right after it shut down and found the bottom to be incredibly hot. Laptop running stress test levels of hot. I unplugged it and plugged it back in with not response. After waiting for about 2 minutes I tried again and it powered up no problem. My guess is that the router is overheating. Anyone else encounter this or have suggestions for testing this theory/methods for dealing with it?Solved20KViews0likes16Comments
