Hi, I upgraded 3 days a go to Windows 10 Enterprise build 16299. It was an installation from scratch I sadly have no longer access to any of my SMB shares. Access was working on Windows 7: see image below - I tried dropping to SMB1 in SMB Application + reboot both PC and NAS: no success - I disabled IPV6 under LAN adapter in Windows 10: no success - I enabled every sharing option under Windows 10 for both Private and Public networks: no success Using cmd in admin console to map the network share: net use * /delete net use t: \\nas-ip-address\data /user:admin nas-admin-password Under the shell cmd, I have access to the shares and their listing through drive T: However, it is wired that Explorer GUI cannot access to the T: drive. So I still cannot see my shares in GUI Under Explorer, I can see the NAS: - under "Media Devices", and brows the DLNA folders - under "Storage", double clicking brings the NAS web admin GUI - under "Computer", named correctly "NAS-01": but if I try to access the shares it gives me a "Network access error" I attach above the image with my error Please help me fix this asap, I am lost and really need the SMB access to manage my backupsSolved43KViews0likes5CommentsAny plans for Samba fix for CVE-2017-7494 ?
I posted elsewhere about this, but CVE-2017-7494 NEEDs to be patched on any device still in operation, and I think that includes the older, technically out of support models that I have 6 of. With Microsoft recommending disabling SMB 1.0 because of Wannacry and related security issues, it seems like an ideal time for Netgear to show some leadership and update SMB on all it's devices to address this security issue and to allow people to use older devcies with SMB 2 or 3 support.Solved23KViews0likes19CommentsTime Capsule on Orbi?
Just curious... has anyone gotten their Airport Time Capsule to work on Orbi yet? Or, more generally, is anyone using Time Machine with Orbi? I've got my Time Capsule hooked up to the Orbi satellite. You can see it in the list of attached devices, but it's showing up in my Finder as a SMB share (with a PC icon) and I'm unable to connect to it. Would it work better with the main Orbi hub? Thanks for any tips you might have! (I'm running macOS Sierra 10.12.2 with the Orbi Firmware Version 1.4.0.18)Samba/SMB share access issues with ReadyNAS OS 6.8.0 on RN202
Sir(s) et al I've manually upgrade my RN202 from [ReadyNAS OS 6.7.5] to [ReadyNAS OS 6.8.0]. After the upgrade I wasn't able any more to access my samba/smb shares from my Linux computers running Manjaro Linux (some kind of Arch Linux) and Debian 9 Stretch (on a cubietruck): - I can see/browse the shares, get asked for the credentials, but can't login to the share - My Nextcloud installation has the same issues - On a virtual Windows 10 i can access the shares - Enable/disable the new MAC-OS feature didn't solve the problem - Using the SMB Plus tool didn't solve the issue either After a dirty rollback to [ReadyNAS OS 6.7.5] everything went back to normal/expected behavior. Another member seems to has reported a similar issue here: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Using-your-ReadyNAS/samba-issue-with-mac-KODI-after-upgrade-to-6-8-0/m-p/1345769#M134953 Regards,Solved11KViews0likes14Commentsreestablishing SMB-Connections lasts up to 30 minutes
Hi, I've a 314 NAS (mounted as drive M:\) behind a HP-Procurve-Switch, for some reasons (ransomwareprotection) I disconnect that certain switch port by snmp-command - thats no problem. Later then I reestablish that connection - switching that certain switch-port on. Then it lasts between 10 and 30 minutes, till I can access the NAS by drive-Letter which is M:\. Interesting is, that after switching the Procurve-Switchport on, I can access that NAS Admin-Page immediatelly, but why not the drive M: which is connected via SMB to my Windows system. Whats the reason for that behaviour and/or is there configuration to improve - shorten that time afer switching port on an ability to connect to M:\ - the situation ? For some inexplicable reason, my ReadyNAS Pro 4 can't seem to access the admin page anymore, nor can I reach it through a networked drive path. RaidAR can see the unit and reports it being healthy, but I can't access the admin page. I can see the shares from Windows 10, but only the read-only side. If I try to navigate to the share via the previous name or via the local IP address, I receive the error that windows can't access it. I went ahead and did an OS Reinstall from the boot menu, which has changed the IP address for the device on my local network, but still is not allowing me to access the admin page. Aside from standard Windows updates, there have been no changes made to my network or home configuration, so I'm at a bit of a loss for what I can do here. I've tried to disable all firewalls to test, tried multiple Internet browsers to test and I'm not sure what can be done. I can ping the IP address for the ReadyNAS, but I'm not sure what's going on with the web interface at all. If I go to the IP address in a browser directly, I can login with the default credentials to access the /shares, but I can't access /admin at all. I get an error that says: "This site isn’t secure Error Code: DLG_FLAGS_SEC_CERT_CN_INVALID" and if I try to ignore that error, it simply redirects me back. I understand my ReadyNAS is an older unit and I'd love to upgrade to a new one if I can simply install my current drives into a new unit, but that's another question for another time. Any help would be greatly appreciated.Solved6.4KViews0likes15CommentsR7800 can't see shared SMB folders through VPN
Hi, I started using the VPN service on the R7800, and I can use Microsoft's Remote Desktop connection app on iOS 9.3 to connect to my home computer (Windows 8.1) through the internet as if I was on the LAN (192.168.1.2). However, apps which read shared SMB folders don't detect them (Infuse 4 pro). Similarly, on my Nexus 6P, Solid Explorer can't open the shared folders when connected through the VPN. Is it possible to read shared SMB folders from Windows remotely through the VPN on the R7800? I have also tried to ping 192.168.1.2 from my iPad and there is no response. When I ping my Android devices, they do respond though. But, again, RDP to that computer works, so I'm not sure what's going on, anyone with more knowledge can help?Solved6.3KViews0likes2CommentsReadyNAS 104 Firmware 6.5.2 to 6.6.0 Issues (Share Access, SMB Disabled)
Hello, I'm having some interesting issues occuring on my ReadyNAS RN104 after attempting to update from Firmware 6.5.2 -> 6.6.0 The firmware was updated via the admin portal, i.e. not a manual upload of the firmware. I received an email suggesting the NAS was rebooting. After 30 minutes of no response / ping from the 'NAS I went to investigate. The LCD Panel had the "Rebooting, See you soon" message, however no activity appeared to be occuring (idle disks, link lights steady, status light solid). I bit the bullet and power cycled the NAS. When it powered up it showed version 6.6.0 so just figured I got struck by a reboot hang that seems to be historically common with the RN104's. However I began to notice the following: I could not access my Share folders anymore. The admin portal attempts to open/expand the folder, however it fails and just loops back to the top level screen. I also cannot mount to the shares using SMB. I also notice the user and group owners for file permissions have been reset to "guest" for all shares. Share permissions seem to be the same, but no impact on access, even changing to allow "Everyone" access myNETGEAR acount suggests my NAS is offline, hinting communication has gone funky somewhere. readyCLOUD app suggesting a similar status Reading some forum discussions on similar issues I did the following: Removed the NAS from myNETGEAR account. Disconnected my readyCLOUD account and rejoined. NAS is now appearing as ONLINE. Reset the "admin" user account - aka re-apply the same password to the account. I can now access the shares correctly and see the data inside. However I can't access the shares via the readyCLOUD app or via SMB. That's when I notice the SMB service is turned OFF ! Any attempts to turn the SMB service back on fail. The system sits there thinking for a while but after it refreshes the GUI the service remains OFF. I have attempted a manual update (upload firmware) of 6.6.0 as well as the Reinstall OS Boot Menu option. Neither have been succesful. :( Am I staring in the face of a Factory Reset?4.9KViews0likes16CommentsReadyNAS4312 HyperV VHD over iSCSI or SMB? RR4312
Hello. We have a new ReadyNAS RR4312. It has 10*2TB SATAs. It will be used to hold the VHDX files from a Windows Server 2016 HOST. The HOST & NAS are connected via 2*10GB SFP+ The HOST server has 2*300GB SAS drives, RAID1 and will also have a VHDX for a WIndows 2016 Server SQL server guest. The VHDX to be stored on the Ready NAS if for the DC/F&P Windows Server 2016 standard. We want best performance for the VHDX stored on the NAS over the 10GB SFP+ to the Server Host (A Fuitsu rack server) iSCSI or SMB? Which would be quicker for VHD access from the Windows HOST? Maybe the NAS storage should be split from the autoconfigured X-RAID (raid 6) to maybe a RAID1 for the VHDX volume to give it more speed, and the remaining 8 disks be reset up as X-RAID (If this is possible?)4.4KViews0likes2CommentsCharacter encoding, Codepages, SMB/CIFS and NFS
We've got 4 ReadyNAS in operation. The 2 oldest units run RAIDiator: v4.1.16 with Samba v.3.6.25 and cannot be upgraded anymore. Microsoft finally decided to dump SMBv1 and all machines on our network got upgraded to a life without SMBv1 hence the 2 old NAS were no longer available to the network. To resolve this issue we decided to enable NSF and disable SMB/CIFS. Microsoft was nice enough to include the NSF-Client and server in their updates. This way we can keep them units on the Network and in production as redundant backups of backups - we first thought. We we're able to map the shares to Windows 10, read and write data for testing, etc. all is operational. So far so good and almost too nice to be true. But there is a problem! Folder- & file-names that use special characters changed their appearance. For instance all Umlaut like äöü became double characters. eg. the letter "ü" displays as double character "ü" in NSF-client. Yep it's an issue directly related to varying codepages. Apparently the NAS OS (RAIDiator) uses varying codepages for SMB/CIFS and NSF. The option for language selection in Frontview is missleading. To be on the safe side one would have to select english ASCII. By selecting any Unicode option incompatibility between SMB/CIFS and NFS filesystems/protocols gets in effect without any mention. This is not documented by Neatgear (at least we could not find anyting). We assume we're not the first and only customers experiencing this senselessness and would like to learn wether there is a solution that we might have missed. Looking forward to receiving responses.4.4KViews0likes7Comments
