UPS
12 TopicsOS Reinstall worked ... UPS issue?
First off many thanks to Netgear and everyone in this forum...after reading several posts from here...I was able to fix my issue after some initial panic. But I'm wondering what happened or if I have the UPS setup wrong. My RN104 (with 4x8TB drives and latest FW) has been trucking along for almost 10 years with no issues..but last night, our power went out for 5-10 minutes and the unit turned itself off, despite being physically connected to a UPS. I also have a synology NAS connected to same UPS and it has the USB cable connected to it. My Netgear RN104 is monitoring the UPS using the network SNMP connection from the synology. When i powered on the Rn104, it booted up fine to 100% but then totally shut off within 30 seconds. Same thing after several attempts and connecting power directly to wall. I pulled out the drives and when I booted up, it was fine and I could connect to it browser. Put the drives back in, praying for a miracle, but NADA...same behavior, shutdown immediatley following boot up. I started to panic given that Netgear no longer supports Readynas...but I kept reading and researching. Eventually, from the posts here and the Netgear manual, I decided to try the OS reinstall option and that did the trick...I was able to login and deal with minor IP address issues..but no data loss! The logs show when the power went out and came back...but then this entry seems odd: Jun 21, 2025 01:15:42 AM System: The system is shutting down. Jun 21, 2025 01:15:25 AM System: UPS UPS () is forcing shutdown. After I restored, I deleted the UPS SNMP entry(just in case)...but could this be a bug in OS 6 code to read the network UPS? or did I set up wrong? Anyone use a Readynas with SNMP UPS and the codes it receives? No issues on the Synology NAS with the same UPS(via cable) when power came back online. Also wondering if I should start thinking about a replacement/newer unit. But this is my 2nd Netgear ReadyNas I have owned and I think they work perfect for my use cases. Again, many thanks to this community. Sorry for long post...TLDR: Is there something wrong with UPS codes being read by Readynas OS6 or time to replace?85Views0likes5Comments6.6.0 UPS alerts not sent
Had a power supply failure prior to the daily boot up at 08:00. Looking at the logs it appears that a controlled shutdown took place about 2 minutes after the initial startup. The UPS powers other devices and the remaing charge was probabaly already below the 60% threshold I have set. This is all fine, but there are no entries in the normal GUI logs, and no email alert was sent about any UPS event. Cutrently the UPS is charging and it's status is yellow in the GUI. I have tested the email alert and this is functioning correctly, the switch and internet hub through which the email would have been sent is powered by the same UPS so would have been on at the time of the event. Firstly which log would have recorded if an attempt had been made to send an email. Secondly is this scenario (a prexisting power outage prior to boot), perhaps the reason there is no log entry in the main log and the reason there was no email?Solved11KViews0likes94CommentsRN104 - does it support UPS managed over USB?
I am thoroughly confused. Does RN104 support UPS monitoring over USB? ReadyNAS OS 6.4 Software Manual states: "The ReadyNAS supports UPS devices managed over SNMP and UPS devices managed over a remote connection. It does not support monitoring over USB." ReadyNAS OS 6.6 Software Manual states: "The ReadyNAS supports UPS devices managed over SNMP, USB, and over a remote connection." Am I correct in assuming that the RN104 now accepts UPS with USB connection whereas it didn't before? (which was not long ago). I have yet to find a reasonably priced UPS supporting SNMP (i.e. under £100). Most support USB though, so that seems the only route.Solved3.9KViews0likes2CommentsAdjusting the sensitivity of UPS on a RN312 with ReadyNas 6.5.2
Attached locally to a RN312 is an APC Back-ups ES 750. I had configured ReadyNas send email notifications for issues regarding the UPS. I am getting several notifying of a switch to battery power and back to line power due to electrical noise. It appears that in ReadyNas 6.5.2 there is no control or adjustments for issues such as sensitivity and voltage like available in APC's Powerchute. Looks like my only option is to not send notifications. Any advice?2.6KViews0likes1CommentUPS Status "Unknown"
I'm not sure when this started, but my RN516 w/6.5.1 software is reporting Status "Unknown" for my Cyberpower 1350. It used to work just fine and I haven't changed anything physically. Unplugged and replugged the USB cable and did a system reset. The ReadyNAS knows the model number of the UPS but that is all.2.9KViews0likes3CommentsReadyNAS RN 204 and UPS
Hi I have recently purchased a RN 204 and looking to ad a UPS. Quite frankly I find all the information rather confusing .... probably says more about me than the info! All I want is a UPS to protect the system in an outage (more than 10 minutes) and for the system to shut down gracefully by itself if I am away from the site. On reading the information I thought I needed a SNMP comparable system but this does not seem to be the case. I eventually found a page "How do I use uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) with my ReadyNAS OS 6 storage system?" [ http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/22814/~/how-do-i-use-uninterruptible-power-supplies-(ups)-with-my-readynas-os-6-storage?cid=wmt_netgear_organic] Here it says: "When any UPS battery is low or when a power failure occurs, the ReadyNAS automatically shuts down gracefully." But then it goes on with configuring the UPS, ie it needs to be compatible ... I assume that this is an option only and not a necessary requirement for graceful shut downs. For me I see no advantage in managing a UPS .. not even sure what I would be managing!! Can anyone please confirm if all I need is a UPS, with no management linkage via SNMP, etc.? In other words the ReadyNAS monitors the power input from the UPS and shuts down gracefully by itself ... a simple set and forget system. IN which cas any reasonable UPS will do. Thank you StephenSolved4.1KViews0likes8Commentsconnecting RN204 with Cyberpower UPS
I've been reading about this quite a bit already, but am confused on a couple of points. 1) I am planning to connect the UPS to the Ready NAS with a USB cable. The software manual seems to indicate that monitoring the UPS over a USB port is not supported. Will a USB connection work? I'm just trying to be sure I get a clean shutdown in case of a power outage lasting more than about 10 minutes. 2) This may be obvious to most of you but I just want to be sure. It looks like the both the UPS and the RN204 have only type A female USB connections. Do I just connect them using a Type A male to Type A male USB cable? Thanks! Hello, I recently upgraded from my Infrant ReadyNas NV+ and frankly that thing just ran and ran without a hiccup. So I decided to go with a RN104 in place of it. My APC Back-UPS xs1000 has been hooked up to my Infrant Device forever and I have replaced the batteries over the years without issue. So brand new batteries and the RN104 I connected it and cannot communicate with it via USB. I performed two firmware updates beinging it to the latest version as of today's date. When it restarted it successfully saw my UPS and gave it green status.. So it was fine and it actually went through a power outage and the ReadyNAS notified me of it being on battery power, then line power and returned to normal status when the power came back on. So I'm done using it for the day and turned it off from the Web Interface. This morning turn it on and all of a sudden it just lost it's mind and cannot communicate with my RN104 any longer and the RN104 sends me e-mails hourly telling me it can't communicate. I disconnect the UPS and reconnect it and it identifies it properly and then all of a sudden it loses it's mind again and says it's unidentifiable. Is there a fix for this? I know for a fact this UPS is fine and is identified on other devices, PC and my old Infrant via the USB. I see from the forums this is a problem with others, is there any fix coming with a new firmware update or suggested fix? I would buy a new UPS and relegate the XS1000 to another area but I don't want to waste my money and connect it and find that it does not work is there any verified list of working UPS devices? Thanks..Solved2.9KViews0likes2CommentsAbrupt shutdown even though an UPS is attached
My ReadyNAS Ultra 2 running RAIDiator 4.2.27 does not shutdown properly when the UPS (Eaton 3S) is running low on battery. My house seldomly (practically never) suffer from loss of mains power, but today there were two dropouts, one longer and one shorter. My Ultra 2 was not properly shutdown during the first and longer (>30 minutes) outage, but "survived" on battery during the second and shorter outage. Battery charge was 100% at the first occurrence and battery life expectancy is listed as 23 minutes. Wed Nov 25 10:42:44 CET 2015 UPS is on battery power. Wed Nov 25 11:28:01 CET 2015 System is up. Why isn't a proper shutdown made, neither on "Auto" threshold, nor 30% manual setting? Can anyone shed some light on this problem please?2.2KViews0likes1Comment
