XR500
14 TopicsDoes RAX120 replace XR500
Please forgive the bold text. Not a router expert. Have to replace XR500 (incompatible with W11) with something as close as possible .... particularly USB ports for HDDs to be seen on home network. I ONLY am familiar with XR500/READYSHARE so now you know my limitation. Would RAX120 — Nighthawk AX12 12-Stream WiFi Router be recommendable or some other product? I just want to have the same feature I had on the XR500 re: external HDDs, Thank you in advance.Solved366Views0likes30CommentsI flashed it's out-of-support firmware with the latest OpenWRT
Sorry I'm late to the party... After my Netgear XR500 became EOS'd, I flashed it's out-of-support firmware with the latest OpenWRT which includes the"Netfilter" firewall code. It runs very reliably as my main router(with wifi off). I have both a RS600 and a RAXE500, both configured as access points in distributed parts of my residence. XR500 can be bought for very few dollars and OpenWRT is free.183Views0likes1CommentNew - XR450/XR500 Firmware Version 2.3.3.136 Released

Hi everyone, I recently bought a XR500 Nighthawk gaming router. I cannot however get the network traffic prioritisation to work properly. Sometimes it picks up game traffic (Blizzard launcher) but then it turns off when actually playing a game (World of Warcraft). Some games it doesn't even pick up at all (Battlefield 1, 2 & 3; Call of Duty: WWII). I've tried automatic by enabling the "DumaOS Classified Games" option via the associated checkbox. I've also tried adding devices/profiles but that doesn't seem to work either. I've also tried manually entering ports, but get an error message saying that they overlap with another profile. There are some prioritised packets but hardly any at all (~150 out of ~500k). I've also applied anti-bufferbloat and capped it at 75% for both upload and download. As far as bandwidth allocation goes, that's also at 75% for upload and download for my PC and 25% for upload and download assigned to my smartphone. I also have the geo-filter enabled, based in the UK and set to 1400km in filter mode (profile is for Call of Duty). My current setup network wise is I have a BT home hub 5 (an awful piece of equipment I know) setup as an access point. I have the XR500 WAN port connected to the BT router via a LAN socket. This setup will change in the future though when HyperOptic get back to me about why my 1Gbit/s fibre only has a download speed of 5Mbit/s. When that's sorted I'll put the HyperOptic router in modem mode and use that instead. Any help is much appreciated! If you need any more information then please feel free to ask. Thanks in advance!7.8KViews0likes34CommentsXR500 and cm1000

If i restart my cm1000 the light on the xr500 goes amber even when the modem gets full back up it stays amber . I am wondering if maybe I got a bad xr500 or if its a glitch When i got the webpage for the modem It will not detect my modem till I unplug the router and power it back up.Solved8.5KViews0likes19CommentsXR500 internet time setup and SSH access
Hi experts. Couple of questions for you. I recently bought the XR500 as I got seduced by the DumaOS screens. I previsouly had a Netgear R7000 which I had flashed with DD-WRT Kongo. Liked it a lot but to be honnest the idea of having fancy bandwidth graphs pushed me to the XR500. While the interface is really neat, there are number of features I miss from DD-WRT, and some other upgrades I am hoping for (more icons for the devices e.g. switches, the ability to disconnect a device from the network as the blocking feature works only if the device tries to connect...). I am running version V2.2.1.10 which I believe is the latest one. To the questions: - I must be a little tired or something... how do we change the timezone ? Programming the wifi ON/OFF on specific hours would be much easier if the router was set on my timezone... - is SSH connection blocked ? putty tells me "connection refused"? - I seem to be able to access the interface thru HTTP or HTTPS... how do I limit to HTTPS? thanks much! I'm hoping to find a resoltuion to the ridiculously slow Wireless speeds I'm receiving using this new XR500 gaming router. Here is my setup... 100d/100u Fibre ONT (Internet & TV)>XR500>Frontier Arris NVG468MQ router/gateway (coax for TV guide and VOD). The wireless bands have been disabled completely in the Arris router and I've followed the Primary LAN-to-WAN directions (found here: https://www.dslreports.com/faq/15992) step-by-step to setup the XR500 as my primary router. When my PC is wired to the XR500 ports I'm receiving my speeds, however, when I'm connected via wireless (laptop, mobile devices, etc) and run a speedtest using speedtest.net or megapath, the results vary terribily: sometimes I;m getting roughly 40 down/25 up, other times I barely break 10 down/10 up. This occurs on both bands, 2.4 and 5 Ghz. Here are the troubleshooting steps I've taken thus far... Changed the wireless channels from 1, 6, 11 for the 2.4 and from 149, 153, etc.. for the 5 ghz band. Nothing increased using either. I've insured that QoS is disabled, sliders for bandwidth are enabled and on 70% (tried setting this to 100% but still no help). Tried setting and enabling a DMZ IP and assigning it on my wireless laptop but still not the solution. I've also tried a "LAN-to-LAN" primary router setup found here: https://www.dslreports.com/faq/15993 but still no resolution. I'm at wits end. My next attempt is to purchase a dedicated MoCA bridge adapter and get rid of the Frontier router/gateway for TV all together. But before I attempt this, I'm hoping someone may have a similar setup or has ran into this before. All help is greatly appreciated.6.6KViews0likes8CommentsXR500 - Keeps dropping Internet
I have an XR500 that has been working fine for the last month and a half, no settings have been changed and all of a sudden the last 2 days the router has been dropping internet (Ethernet and WiFi) and will reconnect then almost a minute or 2 later disconnect again making my home internet useless. Any thoughts or suggestions to remedy this issue?
