8 TopicsRange Extender with NAT ???
I'm in a location that has horrible internet service (1mb/s) and the only realistic choice is using a mobile hotspot (tablet). It offers unlimited 30-60mb/s. Unfortunately, it supports only 8 devices, and will not hotspot via USB or ethernet... only WIFI. I need a device to increase the WIFI to 24 or more devices. Essentially, I need a regular wireless/wired Router, but with a WIFI WAN/internet input. (instead of ethernet). or Another possibility would be a WIFI extender with built NAT and a DHCP server to assign IP addresses to the connected devices (like in a router). It would present only one IP address to the hotspot regardless of the number of devices attached. The problem is that regular WIFI extenders simply pass through the IP addresses of all the connected devices to the hosting hotspot... to make things worse, the extender itself becomes another connected device. I can't believe that I'm the only one in the world who needs to connect more than 8 devices to their home hotspot. Suggestions???DHCP IP address conflict using Wnr2200 as wireless access point in a Windows network
Hi everibody, I'm using a WNR2200 router only as a wi-fi access point to our lan, which has already a DHCP server. The lan DHCP server is excluding some address in a range (e.g. from .50 to .100) since these addresses are used by some server to give them a static IP in our lan. WNR2200 too has its lan address in that range. DHCP server in WNR2200 is disabled, so any device wi-fi connected should use the lan DHCP server, but in the last days some wireless attached device has an IP in that excluded range (e.g. a smartphone connects and gets the .74 IP), so sometimes we have an IP conflict. We haven't changed anything both in the WNR2200 configuration and in the DHCP server configuration, but this wrong ip assignment is still happening also after a server and /or WNR2200 reboot. How may I prevent the WNR2200 access point to assign a "forbidden" IP to a wi fi connected device? Thank you in advance for your help.SolvedCannot connect with VPN server (PPTP protocol) through Netgear R6400 - error 806
Hi. I recently switched from an old TPLink router and bought a Netgear R6400 wifi router with hopes to boost my home wifi performance. Before that I easily could connect through my work VPN connection over PPTP. After switching to Netgear I have all the time error 806 (no support for GRE protocol). I read some info about that and decided to set up the port forwarding: I choose my laptop IP address and set external and internal ports on 1723. I also checked on the Respond to Ping on Internet Port. Later on I also set up the Default DMZ Server on my laptop IP address. Still - I cannot connect with my VPN connection that was working previously and I know it works fine in different enviroment. Beside that - I have in my office all setups on DHCP and working on static IP isn`t the best solution either. Right now I`m wondering what I`m doing wrong? Or maybe I should be dissapointed with Netgear for not supporting typical VPN pass-through? Please help and point me some directions. I have a weird issue with DHCP on the 5Ghz band. I am using the EX7000 as an extender to a CISCO E4200 which is the DHCP server. I extend both 2.4 and 5 Ghz bands. I have configured the DHCP server for a reduced range of address (a.b.c.100 to a.b.c.130) On the Cisco, I can connect any device at will on the 2.4 or 5.8 Ghz networks. On the Netgear Ex7000 extander, it is more tricky. On the 2..4 Ghz, i can connect any device on the extender and it will be assigned an address within seconds. On the 5 Ghz band, it is more unreliable. If I force a device to move from the 2.4 Ghz SSID to the 5 Ghz one, most of the time, the DHCP request will timeout after a minute or so and revert back to 2.4 Ghz. SOmetimes it will work. Any idea how to get that to work ? Both the Cisco Router and the EX7000 are loaded with the latest firmware available.3.2KViews0likes2CommentsPlease provide administrator webpage for DHCP lease admin
Please refer to this topic where the router was struggling to hand out a new IP adress via DHCP : https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-WiFi-Routers/R7000-DHCP-offer-but-no-connection-can-be-made-on-5Ghz-band/m-p/1180230 On a router of this level, would a admin page that can control DCHP not be a minimal requirement? I am talking about a page that would show leased IP adresses and corresponding MAC adress. Also the possibility to change the lease time and to delete certain leases. A log file that would show DHCP offers and responses. With the current interface you are totally blind.Solved3.6KViews0likes4CommentsMy EX7000 connections "go bad" after a while
Hi, I have an EX7000 connected to my R7000 in extender mode. However, after a day or so the devices connected to the EX7000 start having connection problems and when I try to disconnect and connect again it's not possible until I reboot the EX7000 and sometimes I have to reboot the R7000 as well before the EX7000 to get back in business. This is really annoying. I have not had problems like this with the R7000 which is rock solid. I have the latest firmware on the EX7000 and I have the connection to the R7000 on a fixed IP, 10.0.0.2. The R7000 has 10.0.0.1. The DHCP range is 100-200 so there's nothing else wanting extender address. Is this buggy firmware (I have had that kind of problem with Netgear in the past), or is it something I can do so my network stays up and running for more than 24 hours?3.5KViews1like2CommentsR7000 DHCP offer but no connection can be made on 5Ghz band
R7000 Windows10 / Android Firmware = 1.0.7.2 Modem = 192.168.0.1 Router = 192.168.1.1 (R7000) Hi I had a horrible weekend getting my R7000 to work again after replacing the modem from the ISP. Problems started when my new Modem was acting as a DHCP server during initial setup. When I switched that off, my R7000 would not serve IP addresses to machines that previously received an IP from the modem. I got these errors on the clients : “An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection : The name specified in the network control block (NCB) is in use on a remote adapter.” Unfortunately, there is no way to reconcile the DHCP database on the R7000. So I ended up loading the latest firmware again and factory resetting 2x. In the end I got most of it to work again, except the 5Ghz band. When a client tries to connect to 5Ghz, I see a 'DHCP IP' in the log of the R7000 every 10 seconds but the client will not connect. Clients that I tried were Nexus 5 and Nexus 7. Tried changing the channel on the R7000 (44 / 48 / 100) the setting is for Europe. There is no problem connecting to the 2.4 Ghz band. What can I do besides factory resetting again and again?Solved3.9KViews0likes4CommentsWhy is there no DHCP Lease settings on a $200+ top tear router?
I need a Router with a DHCP Less time setting, I'm going to have to sell my R7000 or custom flash it becase a DHCP Lease time of 24hrs is a Very very short sighted setting. This setting causes 10's of 100's of 1000's of people grief every year with their home and small business networks. Examples of issues: #1 (I've made lots of money on this one) Home network and small businees networks cannot print or find ip based network devices when they shut down for a week for vacations because they are setup with the IP they had at the time! #2. People who like to save energy ofter turn off their home network printers when not needed, if the printer is setup by IP address by the automated software, its screwed when you turn it on a week or 4weeks later when you need it. Most people reinstall the printer ending up with two and a large headache. This isn't limited to printers, but printer make up the most common network item turned off, I know of file servers that power down any time the company has a shut down longer then 3 days. #3. A DHCP of 72hrs is the best over all lease time. This allows for machines to be powered down over the weekend, which for small businesses in Hot climates is often required. Now if your a over zellous control freak and only share a block of 10 IP's, for the DHCP server, then thats your own fault. So without having to hard code every device on your network, or Add a extra running machine dedicated to providing the DHCP leasing... Adjusting the lease time is the best for the Envirment (polution & energy & longivity wise) and provides a more stable home network! If Netgear wants to provide the best, then they need to step up and stop some of the limited thinking and allow people to set their own DHCP lease times. Please provide the ability to adjust my lease time on my r7000 router! -- Disapointed with Neatgear! :(Solved27KViews1like16Comments
