I’m not too tech savvy but from what I read you set the EX7000 up as an access point and connect it to the router using the Ethernet ports. However that’s not what I want exactly. I was wondering if I can connect the extender to the CAT6/Ethernet port(not sure what the correct name of port on the wall is called) on the wall in my room upstairs instead of hardwiring it to the router. The router is downstairs in my brother’s room. Our routers connect to the internet via CAT6 ports instead of coax since the ONT box in our garage acts as a modem (according to the Best Buy employees I’ve talked to). So instead of having a modem connected via coax and a router connected to the modem, we just plug in the router with out the need of a modem device. So I was hoping I could just do the same with the extender and not it connect to the router wirelessly or have it hardwired to the router itself.998Views0likes1CommentNighthawk R6700v2 losing connection to CM700 Modem
Hi there, We are relatively new Comcast Xfinity custmers and decided to buy our own Modem (CM700) and Router (Nighthawk R6700v2). Every morning we find that our computers are disconnected from the internet (DNS Server error), although the Comcast Home Security system is connected through our Modem... and I can access the Internet on my phone when the computers show they are disconnected, however. Each morning, I have manually reset the modem. Today, however, I reset the router instead and the system came back up... which suggests the problem is with the router. I have been told Comcast send updates around midnight every day... and thought this might be causing the modem/routers issues... Can anyone advise on how I would investigate the issue with the router? Thanks in anticipation, AllanSolved9KViews0likes15CommentsNetgear R7000 isn't up to speed on a gigabit connection through CM1000 modem
Hi, I recently got a Netgear CM1000 modem on my gigabit Xfinity connection. When I hook my laptop up to the modem directly I am getting close to a gigabit connection, at least above 900 Mbps consistently. But when I hook up (ethernet) through my R7000 with fully upgraded stock firmware I'm still just getting around 200 Mbps which is the speed I used to have before my connection was upgraded. What could the reason be for me not getting any speed increase when connecting through the router? As far as I can see the the router should be able to handle the speed.Solved16KViews0likes5CommentsN300 keeps disconnecting

Hi, I have just bought a DM200 model and an R6400 router. It is not dlear at all how to set together and I have not managed to get internet into the R6400 Does the ADSL setting happen on the DM200? Is username and password - I can get the modem to connect this way... but when I plug it into R6400 what then under internet settings? Username and passowrd again? Say that internet does not need username and passowrd? Or is it all the other way round. I don't set up the DM200 - I just plug it into the R6400 and do all the setup in R6400? I want the DM200 to work in Modem mode only. How is it best to do it?SolvedR6400 Networking speeds
good morning all, i have a R6400 router installed in my home and i seem to be having issues on one of my har wire lines i have ran, to note i have ran Cat 5e thoughout my whole house, currently i have about 200Mbps speeds from my modem using Comcast as my ISP, i have my descktop hard wired to router, i have another line plugged into the router that runs to master bedroom (nothing plugged into it on that end) another one from the router to my living room where that line goes into a gigabit switch (in my gigabit switch i have a PS4,a Android TV box, surround sound reciever and tv) and the last port on the router goes down to another switch on my desk that goes to my NAS drive and another bedroom in the house (nothing connected in room) Ok so on my desktop PC im getting about 190 to 207 Mbps when i run a test, no big deal its perfect but when i try to run a speed test on anything in my living room i cant seem to get over 20Mbps, so i tried taking the line out of the gigabit switch and bypassing it strait into my laptop and again not more than 20Mbps now note i went back to my office where the router is and i took the cable that goes to my living room and went directly to my modem with it went back to laptop to run test again and now i get just over 100Mbps, so seems like my Cat 5e cable is good and that the router seems to be limiting my speeds somehow, can anyone else help with this issue? what could possibly be the issue here? sorry for all of the back and fourth stuff but i was trying to give as much description as i could with my systemSolvedsame router, new isp and new modem now router not recognized
Hello and thank you in advance for your assistance! I recently moved and changed isp (to Time Warner Cable) and had to buy a modem (Arris SB6141). I have an internet connection with the modem by itself, but when I connect the router I have no internet connection. I tried the Netgear genie and the message displayed is: "netgear router is not found or not supported. Also make sure the device is not connected to the guest network of the router and that no IPv6 is enabled." I assumed I'd need to change the MAC ID since the modem has changed, but since the computer doesn't recognize the router (same computer) and I can't get an internet connection with the router, I can't change any of the settings. Can anyone help, please? Thank you!Solved
