I've been getting a lot more false positives lately. I've double checked myself by uploading the suspected file to virustotal.com and almost always the file comes back clean. I made mention of a feature request for the ability to exluded certain directories, etc. but no data or projected OS release was noted. Is this on the roadmap at all, other than "soon"?601Views2likes0Comments[SOLVED!] Having strange issues using your device, and have antivirus enabled?
We have a few reports of users recently who had issues performing tasks on their device. We root-caused this to be related to the Antivirus engine. We successfully tested and pushed the patch to the update server last night. In order to receive this patch: You must be on ReadyNAS OS 6.9.2 (ReadyNAS OS 6.9.3 will contain the fix natively; we will not fix previous versions). Your ReadyNAS must be connected to the internet. You need Antivirus turned off to apply the patch properly. If you don't mind waiting a bit, your ReadyNAS should automatically download and receive the hotfix within 24-48 hours. Check below how to check if you received the patch before turning Antivirus on again. If you want the apply the patch immediately, reboot your ReadyNAS and wait 15 minutes. Check below how to check if you received the patch before turning Antivirus on again. How to check if you received the patch: Go to your ReadyNAS's Admin Page Go to System > Logs, and click Download All Logs Open the downloaded zip file, and open the file apt-history.log Scroll to the bottom and look for a line that shows an upgrade of readynasos to 6.9.2+1: Start-Date: 2018-01-31 10:55:16 Commandline: apt-get -qq install -fy rn-dictionary freeapp-collection readynasos ca-certificates Upgrade: readynasos:armel (6.9.2, 6.9.2+1) End-Date: 2018-01-31 10:55:18 If you have this, then you have received the patch and you can turn on Antivirus again. Please create a thread if you have any issues. Thanks for your patience. After automatic update to V 6.4.0 our RN 2120 v2 performace is really pure. SMB-Connections to Windows 7 Clints are not stable and User/Group rights a ignored. We need a fast hotfix for those problems because we can use our ReadyNas as fileserver at the moment? Any quick help? Since I upgraded my RN102 to 6.4.0 last night I frequently have trouble reaching the admin interface, and my laptop has reported not being able to reach Time Machine. When I login by ssh and use "top", I can see that btrfs-cleaner is stuck at 100% CPU. This can last up to 10 minutes at a time. I only installed about 12h ago and the btrfs-cleaner process already has over 85 minutes of CPU time, that's more than 20 times more than the second most long-running process, readynasd which is at 4 minutes. After a while, btrfs-cleaner drops back to 0% CPU and I can access the NAS normally. My question: is it normal to have such high load of btrfs-cleaner so frequently? Is there any configuration setting that influences this behaviour. I never noticed this problem under the previous version, 6.2.5. Cheers, Joachim In case it matters, my NAS is equipped with 2x 4TB drives in RAID0 with about 40% in use.Solved23KViews1like31CommentsReadycloud transfer speed
Hello, I am currently encountering performance issue using ReadyCloud to share pictures or audio files over the Internet. My internet connection is of type VDSL2 from the ISP Free (I'm living in France) (DL: 80MB/s UP: 19Mb/s). http://www.speedtest.net/result/3969450749.png Using ReadyCloud the transfer speed is variable between 50kb/s and 200kb/s. mostly 70kb/s... But when using the FTP transfer server speed is up to the top of my connection (2.3Mb/s). So It's not my internet connexion which reduce the upload speed. I think it's readycloud server which lock transfer rate to 200kb/s... With this speed readycloud is simply unusable. Is there anyone with the same problems? a solution? Being new to ReadyNAS there were various things I wanted to know. Of these was how long did each of the 'volume scheduled options' take to run. I have already raised posts about Data Scrubbing, Defrag and Disk Test (See bottom of this post). The last of these is the Balance process and how long it takes to run. My Newbie interpretation is that Balancing is carried out at the BTRFS level, and although originally envisaged for multi disk file systems, still has some benefits on single disk file systems. Space is balanced between the data and metadata, and if there is damaged replication on a RAID system, then the RAID itself can be utilized to rebuild the damaged information. There is far more details of this elsewhere, and I only wanted to provide a brief overview of the functionality. Having trawled through the forums, one thing is clear. Balancing should be carried out when the data on the ReadyNAS is small and be carried out regularly. If left until the volume(s) are getting full, it can take a very long time (9 hours in one post, with severe fragmentation and near full disk). However, balancing MAY help solve "No space left on device" as this quote (by an expert) pinched from another post indicates. "Space is allocated to data and to metadata. As the allocation is used up for either of these free space is allocated as needed. However when there is no more unallocated space you can run out of space allocated to data or to metadata even when there is plenty of free space in the other. A balance can be used to address this." The amount of time Balancing takes depends on how much data is used, how full and how fragmented the system is. I am unclear on this, but it MAY also depend on what RAID level is being used. I have now done a few balances and intend to do them regularly every few weeks. The data below MAY be useful to new persons such as myself and help people with their expectations. So I suggest that those who are interested provide their information in this post. System ..... OS ....... RAID .... Disks ......... Total ........ Used ......... Balance time ... Comments RN516 ...... 6.2.2 .... 10 ....... 6 of 4 TB .... 10.90 TiB ... 1.52 TiB ..... < 2 Mins ......... 9, 11, 14, 26 secs and 1 min 15 secs. RN316 ...... 6.2.2 ..... 6 ....... 5 of 4 TB ..... 10.90 TiB ... 6.4 TiB ...... 2 Mins ........... Taken from another post indicating a much fuller system. Pro-6 ....... 6.2.3 ..... 5 ....... 3 of 3 TB ...... 5.45 TiB ... 2.08 TiB ..... < 2 Mins ......... Beta T1773 - 1 min 22 secs and 54 secs. RN202 ...... 6.3.3 .... jbod .... 2 of 3 TB ...... 5.45 TiB ... 2.63 TiB ..... < 2 min. ........ Two separate jobs, one for each jbod volume. PLEASE ADD YOUR DATA TO THIS POST I believe that a lot of ReadyNAS users have carried out Balancing, some taking far more than 2 mins. IMHO it is unwise to wait until your system is near full capacity before doing a Balance. If done regularly the time to run will be minimized. Please note I am not a ReadyNAS expert, just a Newbie wishing to collate information for the good of all. Hi all, again! I have now, so far, no problem to transfer smaller files in large quantities (like mp3's etc), it work flawlessly even over my wireless network. I have a media player (Tvix M-7000A) which is also now connected to the NV+ and it plays movies and music like a dream! (everything through my router Netgear WNR3500 and a D-link DWA-547 wireless NIC on my PC) BUT - as soon as I try to copy a movie file (like 4,5 gb) over to the NV+ it always starts really good, the speed is high....but after just a few minutes I receive the error message: "Cannot copy - file path too long".....and the file names is NOT too long. I've understood that this has to do with the communication between my PC (with XP) and the NV+....correct? My setting is now (in NV+): "auto-negotiation" and MTU 1500...I have tried all kind of settings, but it doesn't help (when I change, I receive the same error when transferring the mp3's etc as well) I followed a tip received earlier to transfer my movie files via USB (through backup function in NV+) - ok, no problem, but it took 2 days to complete the copy (1TB). I really want to avoid running back and forth with a USB drive to transfer files to my NV+, it seems very stone age in my opinion! So, this is my last issue that I really hope to solve...any ideas?2.2KViews1like10CommentsFAQ - Measuring performance with IOMeter
Below are step I do to setup IOMeter. After you get an understanding of all the settings you can adjust them to test a specific test case you are interested in. If anyone has any questions just let us know. 1. Download IOMeter and install it (you can download it at http://www.iometer.org ). 2. Before I launch IOMeter I create a network drive that is mapped to the NAS share I want. Whatever drive letter you assign to your network drive write it down you will need it later. 3. The next step is to launch IOMeter. 4. When IOMeter is up and running go to the “Topology” field and select your PC name and when the tree expands select “Worker 1”. 5. The “Disk Targets” tab should be selected by default and it should show you all the drives that are available to IOMeter. Select your mapped drive. 6. Then you must enter in a value where it says “Maximum Disk Size”. I enter in 2048000 sectors. What IOMeter does here is create a file it calls “iobw.tst” in your share and the runs test using that file size. I purposely use a 1gig file because I want to make sure that the test is forced to write and read to disk with out the possibility of the test just using the NAS memory and not the disks. 7. The next step is to create the test scripts you will be using. I set my up as follows. Select the “Access Specifications” tab. Then click on the “New” button. A new popup shows up that allows you to set your access specs. Set only the following: Transfer Request Size = 256 Kilobytes Percent Random/Sequential Distribution = 100% Sequential Percent Read/Write Distribution = 100% Write All the other options you don’t need to touch. Under the name file I enter in 256K_Write. Select OK. If you scroll down the “Global Access Specifications” field you will see your newly created test script. Select the new script and click on the “add” button. The script I just did is only for Writes and you will need repeat the step you just did but in the “Percent Random/Write Dist” you set it to 100% read and finally I name my test script 256K_Read. After you select the Read script you are done with this tab. Alternatively, you can right-click and save the IOMeter config file iometer.icf, and load it in IOMeter. 8. Select the “Results Display” tab. Then change the “Update Frequency” to 1. 9. Now select the “Test Setup” tab. Modify the “Run Time field to 2 minutes. 10. There is an icon that looks like a floppy disk click on it. Save your file with whatever name you want. 11. Click on the green flag icon and your tests are off and running. You now have your test scripts ready. When you first run your tests you will notice in the “Results Display” tab that nothing is happening. This is because IOMeter is creating the test file on your network drive. For general reference here is our hardware configuration we use for testing performance.
