Streamline Upgrade; Old NightHawk to New NightHawk
Background info - Recently received email from Netgear Support that my existing router (NightHawk AX1800 WiFi 6, serial# 689B0C7PA0131, purchased/installed March 2021) will no longer receive service updates starting May 2026. The email from Netgear Support suggested upgrading to a NightHawk WiFi 7 RS100 router. Appreciate the recommendation. Don't need to upgrade to a mesh router (small square footage building), have had excellent performance with the AX1800, would welcome upgrade to WiFi 7. I then proceeded to check on info at Netgear.com about the RS100 router. Difficulty - In order to upgrade from NightHawk AX1800 to NightHawk RS100, I will have to setup the newer RS100 router from 'scratch'. I will have to manually, configuration page-by-page, type in all my customized network configuration settings for the AX1800, one-by-one, that have accumulated over 5 years of use (lots of configuration info). The AX1800 router, if not all NightHawk routers, has the capability to output an encrypted, binary coded ".cfg" file that can be used to very quickly, painlessly, backup/restore all the configuration settings, etc, for the AX1800 -even to another AX1800 (if old router dies). HOWEVER, after visiting with Netgear chat support (both AI and human), NO such quick/easy option exists for UPGRADE of a NightHawk from an older to a newer model NightHawk (AX1800 to RS100). I cannot simply take the encrypted/binary coded .cfg file from my old, existing AX1800 (which has ALL my 5 years worth of configuration settings) and simply import/load that into a newer RS100 router (via the backup/restore feature). I realize the newer RS100, or any newer router especially going from WiFi 6 to Wifi 7, will have many, many new features/settings (ie, the .cfg file for a RS100 would probably be much, much larger and have many different, newer settings than the older AX1800). However, and maybe I am over-simplifying things, wouldn't the older AX1800 settings be somewhat of a smaller subset of the newer, more enhanced RS100 settings? Recommendation/suggestion/discussion - Would there possibly be some overlap, commonality between the .cfg files? If there was some commonality, would it be possible to have some kind of utility program that could take the AX1800 config settings in its .cfg file and 'seed them' into the proper format for the RS100 .cfg file? As to encryption, have the 'upgrade utility program/feature' use current unique encryption key for the AX1800 .cfg file to decode its info to plain text/ASCII, etc, and then use current unique encryption key for the RS100 to encrypt that info into a .cfg file for backup/restore into the RS100 (with the proper format, sequencing, etc). This would streamline the upgrade process from AX1800 to RS100 by an order of magnitude or more (mere minutes? using .cfg files versus much, much longer, having to manually by hand, page-by-page, type in settings with many, many more opportunities for errors). Surely other customers would also benefit from such an "upgrade feature" for their routers -especially if the utility program/feature could be made to work across different models for other router upgrades. I think the coding effort would be worth it for customers/end-users. If not incorporated directly or built-in for the router, then offer it for purchase as an router feature upgrade. Why not make it easier for the customer to upgrade, purchase newer models, be more user-friendly) -instead of causing the customer to spend more of his/her valuable time for setup when they have already the setup working on their existing router.WPA2 on 2.4ghz overriding WPA3 on 5ghz band
I have a Wifi7 RS140 router. I've have some older smart plugs that only work with WPA2 security. No problem I just use the 2.4 band for those using WPA2. I have set the 5ghz band to WPA3 security for my phones yet when I connect to the 5ghz band I only get wifi 6 speeds (wifi 6 icon on phone). If I go back and change the 2.4 bands to WPA3 security then I get WIFI 7 speeds on my phone (wifi 7 icon) but no longer can connect the older smart plugs. I should be able to have to separate, independent bands each with their own security levels, no?Nighthawk RS100 vs RS300 - IoT devices
Hello! My goal is to have all of my IoT devices on a separate network. I've been googling and searching on this forum on whether or not nighthawk RS100 or RS300 can set up IoT devices on a separate network. So far what I've been learning is that RS100 - you can have IoT devices set up in the guest wifi network but no guarantee all IoT devices would work properly. RS300 - I've got mixed search results on whether RS300 has a separate IoT wifi network. some post/site say yes, others say no. my questions is if RS100 and RS300 both can only have IoT devices on the guest wifi network, then why should I spend more on the RS300 (I don't have faster speed and wider wifi range coverage). I would spend more on the RS300 if it has a IoT wifi network feature. Can anyone pls confirm which is which? which wifi router should I get? Thank you for your time! Good afternoon, I recently received an email that my WNR2000v1 Wireless Router was nearing it's end of support and I should get a replacement if I want to maintain my security levels. I purchased a Nighthawk WiFi7 RS200, as suggested, but when I received it and tried installing it there was no coaxial port for my cable connection. Did I purchase the correct router? None of the Nighthawk models seem to have a coaxial port. How do I resolve the missing coaxial port? Should I reach out to my cable company? I have obtained a /29 range of public IP addresses from my ISP. That /29 network resides on the LAN interface of the cable router/modem/whatever you want to call it. At the moment I am using a Zyxel router for the job and it works well- it has no issue with letting me set the LAN IP address to a public IP address- but for some reason it limits my upload speed to <100Mb/s where it's supposed to be 200Mb/s. I tried a Sagemcom device as an alternative. It has no problem hitting the 200Mb/s upload speed BUT it will not allow me to set the LAN interface IP to a public IP address (45.11.x.x) - it says 'Invalid IP address'. Before I go to the bother of purchasing an RS100 (and then having to return it if it doesn't work), I am trying to find out whether it will allow me to set the LAN IP address to a public IP address. Any advice would be much appreciated!RS700 pinging Google DND every 4-5 secs on AP Mode
I am currently using my RS700S in AP mode behind a pfSense firewall. I noticed the router is pinging 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 every 4-5 secs showing up in block alerts, more of nuisance than anything with it flooding the logs rather than any connectivity. I assume it's trying to check for an internet connection, but there needs to be a way to block/stop the RS700S when in AP mode. I assume this is not just the RS700 but other models probably doing the same as a lot of them share similar core firmware.Nighthawk RS100 can't see 2.4Ghz WiFi devices
I just replaced an old Orbi with the RS100. The Orbi, and my network, were working, but the Orbi app could no longer see the router, and I wanted WiFi 7 anyhow. I set the SSID and password on the RS100 to be the same as on the Orbi, and all my latest gadgets, iPhone, iPad, watch, computer, all connected instantly. My 2.4Ghz gadgets didn't do as well. These are all IOT (bathroom scale, washing machine, printer, smoke detectors, etc) that I've had for years. I got a couple of things to work by reconfiguring them from scratch, but a couple of gadgets simply can't see the network at all. What have I done to troubleshoot? Redoing the network configuration from scratch got a couple of devices working. Disabled Smart Connect so the two networks would show separately. Didn't help. Reenabled it, and nothing broke that wasn't already broken. Tried temporarily turning off the 5Ghz network altogether, but that didn't help. Changed the 2.4Ghz security from WPA2/2PA3 to WPA/WPA2. That got one additional device to work. Rebooted everything, didn't help. Verified that I have the latest firmware. Tried contacting NETGEAR, but so far no reply. Unless someone has a better idea, the router is going to be shipped back to Amazon along with a rather negative review.Is it possible to disable Ipv6?
The user manual of the RS100 only gives different IPv6 connection types to choose from, but does not mention any option to disable it. Is it also possible to completely disable ipv6, both on the LAN side and on the WAN side? If yes, how do I disable it on LAN and on WAN? Thanks.
