So I just recently purchased the Orbi RBK40 router and I noticed you cannot separate the 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi signals through normal methods. I was told that the router has a system or program that automatically pushes the best connection possible. All the devices that support a 5GHz connection seem to connect just fine. However, there are two PS4 Pros in the house and the router refuse to connect it to the 5GHz conncetion. Under my network settings on both PS4 Pro say they are on a 2.4 GHz conncetion. Even under the router GUI it says that it's connected to the 2.4 GHz conncetion. I've been trying to look up methods on how to connect it mannually but no luck. I found a post that teaches how to separate the SSIDs for both the 2.4 and 5 GHz and it worked, however the devices that were connceting to the 5GHz were experincing lag issues and would not have a consistent download rate. I usually average between 145-150 Mbps download when I don't split the SSIDs. However, when they are separate SSIDs, the download ranges from 6-130 Mbps and is never consistent. Not to mention, when the SSIDs are split, the PS4s seems to disconnect from the router frequently. Long story short, is there a way to connect the PS4 Pro to the 5GHz connection?Using another Orbi Router as a Satellite
Hello, Few things i know others have brought up but I will also. 1. Add Orbi Routers the ability to also connect as a satellite. For example many of us because both on the home and business version needed extra satellites but they were not available yet so we purchased extra sets with routers. The routers are doing nothing but stored, total waste of money. Yes we can make them AP but need to be hardwired, this was purchased for a wireless solution, not wired solution. If the next firmware can upgrade the routers to also go into satellite mode would be great or give us a firmware to upload to turn the routers into a satellite. We already spent to the money think it would be the right thing to do. Since both router and satellite are the same hardware. 2. Because of the limit satellites for the orbi pro it would be nice if the satellites from the orbi home were compatible. I think this has been the greatest stress and also the limit on how many satellites a router can support. This is a great platform but great limitations for my business I have Orbi Router 2 satellites and have the 2 ex8000 6xs connected to cover our warehouse and office and have 2 extra routers i cant do anything with other than hard wire. Still have dead space but at the point as a business i really dont want to waste more money just to buy combo orbi pros because of this limitation. I think if this can be worked up this will switch alot of business to use this great product. Also since both Nighthawk 6xs and 4xs are the same hardware as orbi can future firmware allow them to show up satellites? Hello all! Our home is fairly large and was built by the Moravians (lots of stone), so we needed to connect the satellites via an ethernet cable. So recently I updated the Orbi RBR50, and RBS50's to firmware Version 2.1.2.18, which I was told makes them possible to connect via the ethernet. Now, one satellite is hooked up via the ethernet, but the other changes between the ethernet and 5G connection and gives significantly slower speeds. I've tried resetting it to factory settings and reinstalling the firmware. Is there still something wrong? Am I doing something wrong? Thanks so much ahead of time for all the help!SolvedUpdated to V1.12.0.18, now Satellite will not sync, "Wireless AP: Off"
I just updated to V1.12.0.18, and now my Satellite will not sync. Everything was working fine on the previous version. I have power cycled both the router and satellite. Following this suggestion: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi/Satellites-not-putting-out-wifi-signal-after-upgrade-to-v1-12-0/m-p/1321569#M9975 I manually re-updated the firmware on both the satellite and router. It made no difference. When the satellite boots up, I get a solid blue light. The satellite shows in the attached devices list of the router, but not as a connected satellite, just as a connected device. Logging into the Satellite shows it has the appropriate firmware, but it says both 2.4 and 5Ghz radios are disabled. They both say "Wireless AP: Off". Yet it says "Your Orbi satellite connection is up and running." I have tried syncing by pushing the sync button on the router and running downstairs and pushing the sync button on the satellite. I have not noticed any color change, but the router stops blinking pretty quickly, but the satellite just continues to happily blink white. I mean, 25 minutes later, it is still blinking. I then tried the "Add Orbi Satellite" menu item in the router page. After several minutes, it reported that the " Satellite setup failed". I know, I made a rookie mistake -updating firmware when I didn't have any serious problems. Not sure what I can do now - should I try to roll back to a previous version of firmware (unfortunately I trusted the process and didn't write down the previous version)? Should I factory reset both units and try this version again? Any suggestions will be appreciated. If I don't figure this out in a day I'll contact support.Feature request (force a device to a specific Orbi)
I have one problem device that, for some reason, always chooses the Satellite Orbi instead of the Router Orbi, which is always the furtherest away from the device. The Router Orbi is by far the closer one to the device. I can reboot the network and the device will connect to the Router, but will eventually creep back to the Satellite for whatever reason. It's a stationary device (TV) and never moves. I'd like to request to have a feature implemented that will allow us to "force" or designate a specific device to a specific Orbi. I know they plan on releasing a firmware that will allow us to customize how the lights on top act (always on, etc), which I hope gets released soon! Also, a Guest Network feature would rock! Will Orbi Satellite work with existing Netgear Nighthawk X8 router?
I recently purchased a Nighthawk X8 router, so I don't need an extra router. My X8 is placed in the center room of our house. Our home built in 1926, is 3,000sq' it has older plaster walls & the wi-fi reception barely reaches through more than 1 wall. Wireless repeaters didn't seem to work, nor the powerline extenders, so I just had someone hardwire a Netgear AC1200 in order to have wi-fi in the family room. Seems to work great but the signal drops near the rear of the house, so I'm thinking to either hardwire another extender as an additional access point, but I would like to have a single mesh network, which switches automatically (so we don't have to sign on to the extensions whenever we move about the house with a laptop) Can I create a single mesh network using the X8 & the AC1200 I just purchased? Or I see the new Orbi Satellite which looks great & has the capability of a single mesh network, but will it be compatible with my existing Netgear Nighthawk X8 router?Multiple Satellite Placement
I'm curious about placement of multiple satellites with the Orbi system. I understand it is best to have the router in the center. Is there any drawback (or benefit) to putting two satellites relatively close? I have the router with two satellites I purchased at Costco. I was going to put the router on the main level near the middle of the house. I was then going to place one satellite upstairs and one in the basement. Both satellites would be on the same end of the house (because this is where the TV's are). Is this OK? I may buy a third satellite to have on the other side of the house. Just curious about having two on the same side. Interference? Thank you.SolvedOrbi router and satellite guest network
I have an Orbi router with satellite (latest firmware) setup with the main network and a guest network. Both are working fine and I have setup the guest network to be isolated from the rest of the network. My question: I am not getting the guest network to be broadcast from the Orbi satellite, only the Orbi router. Is this a bug, setup issue, or is the guest netowrk only available from the base router? I would have assumed that the satellite would replicate both networks but I am only getting it from the router. Please advise.SolvedSatellte LAN ports not working?
I've got my router in the basement and the satellite above it on the main level to cover the 3rd floor. Satellite is connected with devices attached, but when I plug anything into the LAN ports, they don't get an IP. I requested a replacement kit from Amazon and got the new one set up, tested the LAN ports with the satellite 2 feet from the router once I got the router/satellite configured and the firmware updated on both to 1.4.0.18. Worked fine. Moved the satellte up to the middle floor, got it connected, devices attached through wifi...LAN ports not working again. My Arlo base station showed up on the wired list, but the Xbox One S and the blu-ray player won't connect via LAN. Did a bit of looking around and doesn't seem like anyone else has had the issue? I figure it's either software at this point since it's 2 different kits or I've got something configured wrong.Issue with my Orbi Satellite
So wondering if someone can help me on this. My orbi satellite has been acting up recently not broadcasting wifi. Before I get into it, I have power cycled the router, the satellite, the router and the satellite, I have updated firmware manually, reset to factory defaults... twice, all to no avail... Also I know the satellite was not bum off the line because it worked fine in the past for some time (I've had the system for close to 6 months with no prior issues). Anyways, the issue appears to be the satellite has wifi "disabled" but I can't find a way to turn it on (no switch on the hardware, no option when logged into the satellite through either its direct IP admin page or through the router admin page). Going in through the router admin page shows the satellite as a "connected device" but doesn't recognize it as a satellite. Further, reseting the satellite and synching manually yields a blue light (never magenta) but still the router page doesn't recognize the satellite as a "satellite" - only a "connected device". And finally, logging into the admin page for the satellite itsefl yields a picture showing the satellite connected to the router, but specifically stating the wifi for both the 2.4 and 5.0 channels as "disabled". Anyone have any ideas? Its really quite frustrating, especially how expensive these units are and the amount of time I've had it. Thanks
