slow speed
11 TopicsRouter gets VERY slow and needs reboot
I've had this router for about 1 year. It worked well, but after about 3 weeks things would start streaming slow, movies and games. After a restart everything worked fine. A month ago I started having issues with my wife's phone, Galaxy S6. It would stay connected, but internet was so slow it was unusable. The mobile network was fine. If we connected to wifi at a store or libray it was fine. Only time we had an issue is at home. To give you an idea if we did a Speedtest it would take 1-2 minutes to "Find the Best Server". After that push "Begin Test" and the speed was about 75 Mbps. For my phone the "Find the Best Server" was 2-3 seconds. Do the same test on the mobile network and it works great. I tried moving it from 5 ghz to 2.4, changed the encryption, rebooted the phone, reset the phone, rebooted the router nothing helped the speed. Finally I tried connecting with WPS instead of using the passphrase and that worked. For a while. Every 1-2 days it gets slow again. I need to reboot the router, then it works fine again for another 1-2 days. Provider is Xfinity and I believe we have the latest firmware. Needless to say it's very frustrating to have to reboot the router every day. Today it worked only 12 hours and I had to reboot again. We have 4 computers, Chromecast, smart appliances, ipods, and none of them have a problem. Only 1 phone and then it only started a month ago. Any ideas? This is very frustrating. Thanks.Solved21KViews0likes3CommentsVery slow internet speeds with Netgear PLW1000
Hi I had my broadband service upgraded today from Virgin Media's residential 100Mbps fibre (using Virgin Superhub 3) to Virgin Business 350Mbps fibre (using Hitron CGNV4 router). My PLW 1000 worked perfectly on my previous service (with a steady 75-85Mbps speed) but I'm strugggling to get over 20Mbps speed (using speedtest.net) with my new service. I can, however, get speeds of 260Mbps+ by connecting directly to the Hitron router (either with ethernet or WiFi) so Virgin have understandably pointed me back at the Netgear equipment. The WiFi icon for both the 2.4Mhz and 5Mhz signals both show as 'full' (strong) on both my desktop devices (a 2016 iMac running OS X 10.11.6 and a 2009 iMac running OS X 10.6.8, using both Safari and Chrome) and connects without issue but the speed is obviously far from satisfactory. I have tried a number of solutions i) I have twice tried a Factory Reset on both adapters and installed the network both using the Security button; the Pick A Plug LED shows green on both adapters (signifying a Link Rate of greater than 80 Mbps/best) ii) I have tried a direct ethernet link from the receiving adapter to my device (to eliminate a WiFi issue in the receiving location) but this also records low speeds. iii) I have changed the ethernet cable between the sending adapter and the router (using Cat5e and Cat6 patch cables as well as the cable supplied with the PLW1000), again, without improvement. I have accessed the NetGenie using my browser and confirmed that the firmware is up to date (V1.0.0.6) and that the 2.4Mhz Wireless signal is showing 'Up to 200Mbps' and the 5Mhz signal is showing 'Up to 433Mps'. I have attached a screenshot of the settings. Any help and advice would be very gratefully received. Our network speeds are supposed to be getting 200 Mbps download and somewhere around 10-15 upload. We were using Comcast -> NetGear Nighthawk R700 and we were getting the full 200+ download speed on both Wired and Wireless. I now have removed the R7000 and put in a NetGear Prosafe SRXN3205 in order to have a VPN connection to my work and a few other work sites. I am not sure what is the cause, but our speed has dropped down by more than half while using this. Here is what my speedtest shows now with the SRXN3205 in place. http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/6081177111 If I take out the SRXN3205 and put the Nighthawk R7000 back, the speeds go back up to 200+ Mbps Ideally I want to have the hardware set up as follows: Comcast -> SRXN3205 -> R7000 (for the Wifi) I have searched all over the NETGEAR Community and have not been able to find any solutions for this. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.Solved6.8KViews0likes6CommentsWNDR4300V2 slow in bridge mode with VDSL?
I've had a number of WNDR type routers (3400, 3400V4 and now 4300V2) and have worked well with my Cable modem (30M Down/5M Up). Recently I've switched to DSL and have upgrade connectivity to 50M Down/10M Up. When connected with both ISP provided Modem/router or a Smart RG 505 Modem/router I've been easily able to obtain these speeds with both WiFi and wired connections to the router. All works normally as expected. I want to use my Netgear routers as my DHCP/Gateway and have configured the modem in Bridge mode. I let the router handle the PPPoE login and things seem to work fine EXCEPT speed drops to max 27-28M Down/ 10M Up (both wired and wireless). I've been pulling my hair out over this. MTU is set correctly (checked with Ping and verified with ISP). NAT/Firewall turned off on bridge. I've even tried both modems with almost exactly the same results. Thinking it was a problem between the modem and router negotiating bridge setup I've set the modem up as the gateway and setup a DMZ host to point to the Netgear router (and my LAN behind it). Router is still DHCP server for my LAN and the router has a static "WAN" address on the same subnet as the LAN on the modem. Everything works great and I can login and verify both pieces of hardware. No double NAT issues and UPnP works fine. AGAIN the speed drops to 27-29Mbps. Too slow. I have also taken an old TPLink router and replaced my Netgear router as the Gateway/DHCP server/router and speeds are back up to 50M Down/ 10M Up in both bridge mode and as the DMZ target. So this really seems to point to the Netgear modem as the bottle neck. Any advice? I searched a bit and found a few similar posts but no resolution. Most suggestions were wrt MTU (which I've played with and verified with the other modem/router) or using it as a DMZ target which doesn't seem to increase my speed. Am I hitting the limit of the WNDR4300? It is a relatively recent router (only a couple of years old) so I expect it could handle 50Mbps?? Any help or advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.Solved6.7KViews0likes6CommentsR6400 Networking speeds
good morning all, i have a R6400 router installed in my home and i seem to be having issues on one of my har wire lines i have ran, to note i have ran Cat 5e thoughout my whole house, currently i have about 200Mbps speeds from my modem using Comcast as my ISP, i have my descktop hard wired to router, i have another line plugged into the router that runs to master bedroom (nothing plugged into it on that end) another one from the router to my living room where that line goes into a gigabit switch (in my gigabit switch i have a PS4,a Android TV box, surround sound reciever and tv) and the last port on the router goes down to another switch on my desk that goes to my NAS drive and another bedroom in the house (nothing connected in room) Ok so on my desktop PC im getting about 190 to 207 Mbps when i run a test, no big deal its perfect but when i try to run a speed test on anything in my living room i cant seem to get over 20Mbps, so i tried taking the line out of the gigabit switch and bypassing it strait into my laptop and again not more than 20Mbps now note i went back to my office where the router is and i took the cable that goes to my living room and went directly to my modem with it went back to laptop to run test again and now i get just over 100Mbps, so seems like my Cat 5e cable is good and that the router seems to be limiting my speeds somehow, can anyone else help with this issue? what could possibly be the issue here? sorry for all of the back and fourth stuff but i was trying to give as much description as i could with my systemSolvedR6700 losing internet speed
When my Internet speed used to be 25Mbps, the download speed I get from R6700 router (wired & wireless) was average 28Mbps. Last week my ISP doubled my Internet speed to 55Mbps but I can only get avg download speed of 28Mbps from the R6700(wired connection). When I connected directly to modem, my download speed is 60Mbps. I also tried to use another old router and still get 60Mbps. Any solution?Solved5KViews0likes4CommentsNighthawk X4 performance drops
I have been experiencing random performance issues with my Netgear Nighthawk X4 router. I have very fast internet speeds (160+mbps) but if I load several webpages at once (eg. 5 at a time), they get stuck loading and eventually have no response. This is over a 5G wireless connection. I have to wait several minutes and reload them all individually again. I have disabled QoS, WMM and have the latest firmware but it makes no difference. I must say, this is quite vexing. I expect more from a router of this price and suposed caliber. Any suggestions?Solved4.5KViews0likes5CommentsWeak wifi with Netgear GS108E
I get a very weak download speed on wifi after I plugged in my Netgear GS108E switch. I have a 100/10 (down/up) Mbit/s fiber connection. Have tried a lot of things but nothing seems to help the speed. What have I missed? Router gives me full speed with cable and wifi. Switch gives me full speed with cable but not wifi (only 15 % of my speed). Access Point gives me full wifi speed (100 Mbit/s) when connected to router. Equipment: 1 Thomson router 1 Netgear GS108E switch 2 Ubiquiti UniFi Long Range Access Point My setup ist kind of easy, Router -> Switch -> UniFi Long Range Access Point (see image below). Backstory.. had 100 Meg internet thru ISP and would get that over WiFi easily. They gave me a free speed upgrade to 200 Meg and now my mobile devices (Android phones/tablets and apple phones/tablets) will not get more than 45-50 Meg download. My laptop will get 200+ on WiFi easily, but all of our mobile devices cannot get past 45-50 Meg. I've tried changing between 2.4 and 5 GHz and no difference. I changed dns on router and still no difference. Also tried enabling and disabling ipv6 and still nothing. Even did a factory reset and reconfigured router and still nothing. Called my ISP and they say it's not them. I tend to agree with them as I am not sure how they could throttle my mobile devices. Although it's odd that it worked perfectly fine until they upgraded my speed. I did call the ISP to see about downgrading back to 100 Meg to see if it would work but doing that would cause me to get a data cap (have unlimited now). Anyone ever have experience with issues like this? Not really sure what to do next besides buy a new router, but my nighthawk is less than a year old.Solved2.6KViews0likes2Comments
