7 TopicsBad iOS/Apple Connectivity (solved) and Slow Speeds - Orbi RBR40 - FW v 1.10.1.2
I have owned the Orbi RBR40 home wifi system for approximately 3 weeks. Within the first 30 seconds of being connected I ran a speed test and it showed 150mbps up/down immediately after a ran a subsequent speed test which showed 20 mbps up/down. Since then, all speedtests across all wireless devices run between 5 mbps and 30 mbps up/down. Averaging about 20 mbps. Furthermore it seems like all of my apple devices that were not connected to the wireless network the very first time the Orbi was plugged in were unable to connect to the Orbi system when it was in router mode. I reset the Orbi, changed the SSID, tried connecting to a guest network, and toggled every single setting in order to resolve the issue. Finally, upon consulting these message boards, I took the advice here: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi/FINALLY-got-the-ORBI-not-to-drop-connection/td-p/1223334 and changed my Orbi from Router to AP mode and these apple devices finally connected. At this point I guess I am comfortable not using the Router functions of the Orbi device, but this is still disappointing. Even after getting the apple devices to connect, I am still averaging about 20 mbps up/down accross my wireless devices. My average speeds are as follows: Wired Straight to ATT Fiber Router: avg 800 mbps up/down, peak around 960 mbps Wired Straight to Orbi Main Hub: avg. 600 mbps up, 750 mbps down , peak around 700 mbps up and 900 mbps down Wired Straight to Orbi Satellite: avg. 200 up/down, peak around 300 mbps up/down Wireless Avg: 20 mbps up/down, peak around 30 mbps up/down I think that the loss between Router and main hub is expected (actually probably pretty good) The loss from Hub to Satellite seems a little extreme, but I would reluctantly believe that this is normal The loss from hub/satellite to wireless device cannot be right and I don't know what the cause is. Again, I have toggled every setting on these devices and performed a Wireless Analysis on Mac to determine their suggested channels (2.4: 6,2; 5.4: 44). I am currently running 2.4 on channel 2 and 5.4 on channel 44, though I have toggled through all of them and havent noticed any significant difference. The wireless functionality on my ATT modem/router combo is disabled including all broadcasting functionality Also, i have enabled Beamforming and MUMIMO but don't notice any difference one way or another on the effect on speed. Finally, I initially purchased a router/1 satellite system and installed this, but was not getting the signal strength throughout my house. I acknowledge that this was my fault because I intentionally placed the satellite in an unrecommended location. Since then I purchased a third satellite and placed it in across the house from my router and dropped the power on each band down to 25%. I have a smaller house and was interested in getting the "hardwired" satellite functionality in my home office (close to the router). My speed issues existed prior to adding the additional satellite and since. Even with the power cut to 25% I get strong coverage throughout my home and at a consistent average speed of 20 mbps up/down. Just to make sure interference was not my problem i have run tests of each satellite independently and the router alone. Still looking at 20 mpbs up/down. If there are any suggestions on how to regain some of my speed I would greatly appreciate hearing them.Orbi Wired Speeds Unacceptably Slow - Wifi Not Impacted - QoS Issues?
Ever since I have received my Orbi, I have been plauged with wired speed connection issues. My wired connection speed continues to be throttled from 10-20Mbps no matter what steps I take. My wireless speeds across all devices are not impacted at all and get a steady 120-145mbps on every device I can run a speed test on. I run Fast.com, Ookla, and Google's speedtest. Ironically, the Orbi speedtest in the QoS section shows a steady 140-150mbps when running. I have done the following steps to troubleshoot this issue: - Changed wired device I am testing. I have tested 2 laptops (one Toshiba, one Macbook Pro) and my desktop (specs below) - Changed modems (Motorola SB6180 and another from when the Cox tech came out) - Replaced all ethernet cords with new cords from a different source (running from the modem to the Orbi base station, then base station to wired device) - Updated my ethernet drivers (tried various versions, old and new, on both the Toshiba laptop and my desktop) - Factory reset my Orbi 6 times (using both software reset in UI and the paperclip method; twice on all three firmware Netgear has released since I received the Orbi) - Turned off MU-MIMO, Beamforming, WMM QoS, all at different times and in different orders - After running the first Orbi speedtest in the QoS section (after the 2nd firware update added it), I have applied AND not applied the Dynamic QoS prompt (Applying the setting gives me a slight boost in speed about 5mpbs) This is not my first go around with any sort of home networking, but this is definitely the most frustrating. I have never seen a router throttle wired speeds like this and it makes no sense to me why. The QoS page is sorely lacking of any possible information. How do I know it is turned on? Why does the Dynamic QoS prompt only come up a single time and never again? Where are the options to apply QoS to certain IPs/devices? At this point in time, I am 99.9% certain all my problems are stemming from the QoS settings of this router, which are apparently insanely aggressive for wired connections. I would love to hear from anyone that either has experienced these issues or has some sort of new idea to troublshoot. If any Netgear reps are reading, I would truly like to hear from you as what else I can provide in order to get this situated. I want to love the Orbi, but having slow wired speeds is absolutely unacceptable for my day to day experience. Please help me! My desktop specs: CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1231 v3 Motherboard: ASUS H97I-PLUS (BIOS version 2704) RAM: 16GB DD3 GPU: EVGA GTX 1070 SC ACX 3.0 OS: Windows 10 (1607 with latest updates)Nighthawk C7000 AC1900 Slow speeds
I have Comcast Blast internet and was getting a little over 100mbps with the xfinity router but I decided I was tired of renting so I bought a surfboar modem that also got roughly 100mbps. The surfboard had to keep being restarted daily so I took it back and exchanged it for this Nighthawk C7000 which is way more stable and suposed to be faster. The problem is that now when I do speed tests from xfinity speed test or speedtest. net. I am only getting between 25 and 30mbps. Speeds are consistent on phones, wifi computers and wired computers. I was getting 100mbps on all devices just before I switched so I know it's not them. I know the C7000 is plenty capable of 100mbps so I've tried all the channels and changing the mode speeds to each and every setting and nothing gets over 30mbps. Today I just did a factory reset and that also did nothing. Also all 24 downstream Bonded channels are showing locked. Only 3 upstream are showing locked but I'm more concerned with the download speed. Thanks for any help, DexterSolved24KViews0likes4CommentsConstant connection speed drops on 1200 powerline
I've purchased myself a 1200 powerline to connect my desktop computer to the Ethernet. This desktop computer is one floor up and maybe 20m north of the router. Not too far between the two powerline units. I've got the powerline working. I was able to run a speed test on my computer and got 9 ping, 35 up and 16 down which is more than enough, but constantly, the Ethernet speeds drop down to unbearable speeds. So bad that any speed test I try to run will time out. I've kept an eye on the LEDs built into the powerline units. The bottom LED (strength of connection between powerline devices) will constantly flip back and fourth between solid green and solid red (best connection to worst connection.) What are the things possibly affecting this connection? Would it have anything to do with my computer or is it something to do with the connection in the walls? I can't do anything as long as this problem persists. The slow connection drops skype calls, videos, games and 3 minute downloads turn into 40 hour downloads. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank youSolved7.9KViews0likes6CommentsN450 CG3000Dv2 WiFi slow down
I am looking to solve a slow down issue. I recently installed the router on my network and was able to attain download speeds in the 50 to 60 mbps range. After connecting my computer, iPad, and phone, I am not getting anything above 4 to 5 mbps. I called my ISP and they do not report any outages and are able to communicate with the modem just fine. I LAN conneted to the modem and was still only able to get 5 to 6 mbps. I understand my download speed will vary depending on the usage of each device, but I would not think it would diminish so drastically. Is there anyway to configure the router so that I can maximize the speeds? or is this a common problem for the router/modem? Thanks!4.7KViews1like1CommentVery Slow Speeds / Dropping 50% of Packets on Pings to Google
Hi All, I have a Netgear C3700 that has worked great for the year I have had it but 2 days ago it began giving very slow speeds on what should be a 20Mbps cable internet connection. Pings to the rtr IP 192.168.0.1 are fine both wired and wireless with no packet loss but pings to 8.8.8.8 -n 20 are consistently 50% of packets. The ISP has installed a new drop because the old one had been spliced many times and signal levels on this new drop are in proper range. The ISP temporarily hooked one of their modems to the line and speeds were good with 0 packet loss. Hooked the negear back up and reactivated on their end but still the same. So has my modem/router gone bad (its about a year old) or is more likely an issue with the way my ISP is iterfacing with this rtr? ex maybe they need to push a firmware update or just issues on their WAN? I would think if the netgear were defective it would be dropping packets on LAN pings as well but I maybe I am wrong. I have of power cyced the netgeard rtr, reseated the cabling, and hard reset it as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated!3.8KViews0likes5Comments
