vlan
54 TopicsGS1xxE and their PoE equivalents. Getting them an IP using DHCP on a specific vlan.
Hello to anyone taking the time to read this. I have close to a dozen netgear GS1xxE switches at my home and various family member's homes by now and swear by the things. Vlan tagging is a must for our various setups and these switches haven't disapointed yet. However , when it comes to configuring them, the fact one is incapable of selecting the vlan on which the things do their DHCP negotiating forces me to use fixed IP's. In essence this isn't all that bad. But adding this to the firmware isn't something unreasonable to ask I would think. http://i.imgur.com/JZEvBx4.png http://i.imgur.com/p9evrYY.png Thanks in advance for taking the time to reply. If you also think this slight oversight should be rectified please do reply.70KViews21likes16CommentsQuestion on creating multiple Wireless VLANs for Security (IoT devices, Family WiFi, Guest WiFi)
Hey Everyone, I'm in the process of re-doing (re-designing) my entire Home Network. I've decided to go the VLAN route for both Wired and Wireless devices. From a security standpoint, I would like to have all of my IoT / Smart Devices (Amazon Echo's, Ring Doorbell Pro, etc., bla bla) on their own Wireless VLAN. I would also like to have a Wireless VLAN just for visiting friends/family/guests. Lastly, I would like to have a Wireless VLAN for the members of my immediate household. Ideally, I would like to create a specific VLAN for both Wireless and Wired devices, for my immediate household that is. Here is what I currently have in terms of hardware: 1. - I have an Orbi RBR50 w/ 2x Satellites. From what I can see, the Orbi Router seems to only support basic VLAN tagging. However, the ORBI does allow for you to create a 'Guest WiFi' and restrict users from even seeing/interacting with each other and etc. As weird as it may seem, my CenturyLink Fiber Modem seems to have more options for VLAN Management than the Orbi. 2. - I have 2x ZyXEL switches, a GS1900-8 (8-Port) and a GS1900-24E (24-Port). According to their specs they support the following VLAN/QoS specs: Traffic Management and QoS • Port-based VLAN • IEEE 802.1Q VLAN tagging • IEEE 802.3ad LACP • Guest VLAN • Voice VLAN • Storm control • IEEE 802.1p priority queues per port • IEEE 802.1p Queuing method (scheduler) • Input priority mapping • Rate limiting per port (ingress/ egress) • IEEE 802.3x flow control So that said, since I would like to do some VLAN Magic as stated above, is there a way to do this with the my current hardware? Or do I need to purchase additional hardware like an Netgear Router or a little EdgeRouterX or something? Also, I'm trying to understand...since I'm using the Orbi RBR50 w/ Two Satellites...I'm not sure how I can create additional WiFi VLANs without adding additional APs or other equipment? Any thoughts and recommendations welcome!! BJModel nunmber= GS748TPS and Serial Number = 23R725xxxxxxx
I have an issue to make a trunk with this model of switch since there is no VLAN port membership in the GUI interface available to make trunk ports or even assign tagged ports. Tought it was a problem in the firmware but the firmware is updated to the latest version, the other version of GS752TPS doesn't have this issue and work well. Hardware version = 01.00.00 firmare version =5.2.0.11 I need to find a solution to this problem. Thank you in advance.Solvedvlan (ipv6 futureproofing)
Hi, We have a SRX5308 and a couple of FVS336 as well as a few other routers. We are futureproofing our corporate network by deploying ipv6 in parallel of ipv4. our address scheme was chosen as to be as simple for the admins as possible : ipv4 : 10.bbb.ccc.ddd (where bbb also denotes the vlan) ipv6 : fdgg:gggg:gggg:bbb::ccc:ddd:1 it's been deployed within the network, and it runs fine, no issues. our primary firewall-routerchain (not netgear) is also updated and works. I'm now trying to configure one of the netgear, and I'm discovering the issue where the ipv6 mode doesn't support vlan (at least through the GUI). is there any way to actually make ot work (telnet ?) or am I wasting my time, and should at some point replace them with other hardware ?15KViews3likes1CommentSimple VLAN without VLAN-aware router and DHCP aka Port-based VLAN
I did manage to get the tagged VLANs (802.1Q) working with DHCP, mutiple switches AND VLAN-aware router - the whole shebang. However, I tried to poke around with the simple setup with not vlan-aware router and no tagging and....it just didn't work :O My setup is following: router<--port1-->switch<---port4-->PC vlan1 contains all 8 ports untagged vlan 10 contains port 1+4 untagged port 4 PVID = vlan10 All the devices are on the same subnet. Switch is a Netgear108Tv2 with the latest firmware (5.4.2.27) 1. DHCP isn't leasing me any IPs - I get APIPA 2. Even with static IP (incl. router as gateway), I cannot ping either the router itself or anything else.... What am I doing wrong here ? I've read on various forums, that GS108Tv1 had port-based VLAN option which easily managed a setup like this, V2 is apparently only supporting 802.1Q-VLAN, which still should support untagged VLANs and a vlan-not-aware router, isn't it ? I also found this post, where one of the users "somehow" as he puts it, managed to make it work: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Wired-Network-Adapters/Is-port-based-VLANs-using-GS108Tv2-still-possible/td-p/473280SolvedHowto change management vlanid on gs724T
Hi guys, I am trying to modify the management vlan vlanid from 1 to 2500 on a GS724Tv4. Firmware version : 6.3.1.19 I have configured a port (23) with PVID 2500, member of vlans 1 and 2500. Other ports have PVID 1. Then I modified the IP configuration and set the Management VLAN ID from 1 to 2500. When I do that, I loose control of the switch. Could you help me find what have I done wrond please ? Thanks Regards FernandSolved13KViews0likes3CommentsVLAN Tagging for Guest Network
I've seen a couple of posts about this in the past on this forum, but all of them appear to be kinda old, and before you could uncheck the "Allow Guests to see each other and access my local network" while in AP mode. Now it looks like you can uncheck that in the version of firmware that I have (1.11.0.20). I have my own router/DHCP/firewall/gateway that I want to keep using, so I have put my Orbi network into AP only mode. However, I would still like to have a guest network that I'm able to separate at my router. I would like to do this via VLAN tagging. So my questions are: Is this something that Orbi is capable of now? If not, is this something that will be available in the future? And if so, is there a way to be notified when it is available? What actually happens when you uncheck "Allow Guests to see each other and access my local network" while in AP only mode? Does the Orbi just start NAT'ing and serving it's own DHCP at that point? Lastly, assuming that it's not already a thing, I would like to chime in with others here and say that I would REALLY like to see VLAN tagging as an option in the advanced interface.XAVB5201, GS105E, and VLAN's
I just wanted to post this in hopes someone else might find it useful. I had a network installation for a business in a historic old house. As such, we were not allowed to drill holes and run CAT5e without going through a long committee approval process. But at the same time I needed a way to run the cable company Internet feed from the entry point in the basement, up to the ground floor to the FVS318N firewall, and then post-firewall back downstairs to a basement office. Initially I tried doing this via 802.11gn wireless, but the floors kept interfering with the signal and causing drop outs and wildly variant connection speeds. So I purposed to employ a new & better solution (if I could) ... powerline. So I purchased 2 XAVB5201 kits (4 total units) and deployed them at each location needing network access. I also reset the factory security key on each unit. As I only needed 3 actual locations, I then deployed 3 GS105E ProSafe Plus switches. I configured the switches to have 2 VLAN's each using the Advanced 802.1Q feature; one for the raw unfiltered Internet feed, and one for the post-firewall filtered feed. It took a few notes and some restarts to get it configured just right, but the final install works flawlessly. By using the Advanced 802.1Q feature in the GS105E's I'm able to establish VLAN's and assign ports and PVID's to each of the affected ports on the switch. Also, because I configured all 3 switches to "see" both networks even if they don't participate per se I can "see" all three switches from a management workstation using the ProSafe Plus Utility AND also "see" all the powerline devices using the Netgear PowerLine Utility. An elegant solution to an in-elegant world. Post question if you wish and I'll try to answer. :)12KViews0likes2CommentsDHCP Question
This is a pre-sales question. I am looking to have set up a client network with 3 VLANs; one for guest WiFi access, one for VoIP, and one for the staff / back office workers. I thought a Netgear L3 switch would have the ability to assign the onboard DHCP to a specific VLAN, meaning I could have 3 DHCP address pools - one assigned to each VLAN. I cannot find anywhere in the 7000/7200/7300 L3 switch reference manual where it discusses specifically how to do this. Am I just blind or is this not possible? TIA.11KViews0likes1Comment
