Issues with devices disconnecting often: Orbi RBK50

Having an issue with a couple of my devices not being able to stay connected to my Orbi system.  Smart tv's and dvr's.  They are both able to connect to either 2.4 and 5 ghz.  I can manually connect them and things work fine but within hours they are disconnected again.  The option of connecting by ethernet isn't possible as everything is scattered throughout the house.  It's become frustrating as I like to watch tv when away from home and can't connect when I want to.

I've searched and found work arounds to rename the ssid's which, from reading, sounds like it's not recommended.  I'm guessing the dvr's and tv's are having trouble because they are confused that both ssid's are named the same?  Only thing I can come up with.  Maybe I'm wrong?

Is there anything I can do to get these to stay connected? Never had an issue until Orbi came into the house.  🙂   Want very much to fix the issue as it's too late to return.  HELP!

    a couple things.

    1. What firmware is on the orbi router and then the satellites?

    2. how far apart is the orbi router from the satellites? (they need a minimum of 30 ft between them)

    3. what is the home made from? (certain materials block wifi)

    4. what modem/gateway is the orbi connected to?

      1. Looking at orbi app - firmware 2.7.3.22 both satellite and router.

      2. Have one satellite - it is about 40-45 feet away from router.

      3. "Regular" home - wood/sheetrock

      4. connected to spectrum ubee (not sure of the model, not home right now).

All devices are working great, just the tv's and dvr's seem to connect (when I go thru their wifi setup menu) then disconnect on their own sometime later in the day/night.  When I try to watch something remotely I get the "not connected" message.

      Thanks

        How old is the orbi?

Has it been going on since it was first purchased?

Have you tried moving the satellite? Maybe its got a poor backhaul connection (things in the walls like hvac can block signal)

I'd check on that ubee model. Several of them are modem router combo devices

Do any of your wired devices drop?

Have you tried moving a satellite by a tv and hardwiring it in and seeing if it drops?

I don't think your connectivity issue is because your SSIDs are the same for 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz.  Orbis anyway do not support naming these differently.

Try using the web admin to change CTS/RTS Threshold to 2347, see if this helps.  This often improves compatibility with wireless devices (usually older 2.4Ghz ones) but still might apply to your problematic devices:

    1. Go to the web admin portal at http://orbilogin.com/
    2. Click to the Advanced tab, Advanced left menu, Wireless Settings
    3. Set CTS/RTS Threshold to 2347 for both 2.4hz and 5Ghz networks
    4. Press Apply

Thank you Mikey, I will give that a try later and see if anything improves!

Mikey94025, I followed your instructions, but the cts/rts are already set at 2347.

Was looking at other settings because I've been reading that IPV6 can sometimes cause issues.  I clicked on IPV6 on the left hand side and it says "Internet Connection Type" - disabled, is that ok?

I just don't understand why it has worked and now all of a sudden it doesn't and just these two devices (dvr and tv).  So strange.  I've looked into settings on each device and tried to figure out things but all I can get from the samsung tv is it says there are more than one network named the same (2.4 and 5ghz).

Could you please explain more about this.  I am confused about how the ability of a tv or vcr to connect to WiFi relates to watching tv when away from home.

Sure!  I have Dish, with the hopper you can use the dish anywhere app and watch what is recorded on your dvr or live tv but the dvr has to be connected to the internet.
