Orbi System causing issue with EPSN app
Hello,
I have an RBR50 with multiple satellites that has worked flawlessly for years. However, now with the latest crack downs on VPN's etc. I am having issues with certain apps, specifically right now the ESPN app.
I spent close to two days trouble shooting, including on the phone with ESPN support and have narrowed it down to something within the WiFi network. The ESPN app for refence would not work on my SamsungTV, iPhone, AppleTV, or Firestick. However, if I disconnect my iPhone from the network it will work using cellular data. Also, if I remove my incoming ethernet cable from the Router, and connect it directly to the AppleTV it will work as well.
Any suggestions? I do not see a option for VPN or proxy settings on the Orbi app.
Thanks for any help in advance
On the RBRs web page under Advanced Tab/Setup/Internet Setup, down this page there is a DNS section, will be set to auto, can set to manual and then you can input different DNS, Try 9.9.9.9 and 149.112.112.112.
Also if these are the only apps having issues and others do not, you should contact the mfr of these apps as well. Possible changing in there operation at the Mfr level maybe involved as well.
May need to factory reset the system then setup from scratch as another troubleshooting step.

Orbi would not be causing this. If the system had been working up until recently with your apps and devices, would be something in the Apps or your ISP has changed something possibly.
Try using different DNS services, i.e. cloudfare or quad9.
What brand and model# is the ISP modem or ONT the RBR is connected too?

So again, if i bypass the orbi, and go straight to cellular data, or to my fiber connection, they work. It is only not working when connected to the Orbi System via wifi or hard wire to the RBR50. I am self admittedly not and IT guru, but logic dictates there is a setting somewhere that is messing this up.
The ONT in a Alcatel-Lucent O-221H-P, I would not know how to try a different DNS service.

In what way does the ESPN app not work? Is there an error message?

Its acts as if I am not within a region that it can access when I am connected to the WiFi. Works fine when straight to my fiber connection or on cellular
data.

Ya thats not a Orbi issue.

Does the Apple TV work when connected to the RBR50 with Ethernet cable?

no, only when straight to the fiber

So very strange. Does the Apple TV have a method to display the public IP address when it is connected?
(Devices that can run web browsers can look at https://whatismyipaddress.com )
(Have no access to Apple TV and know very little about it.)
Streaming services definitely watch IP addresses to determine when viewers are streaming content outside their area. There have been posts on the Forum about streaming services mistakenly thinking a user was using a VPN service to watch content that was not authorized to their normal IP address. In at least one of those cases, the streaming service was mistaken and was able to correct their "list of IPs".
So, it would be interesting if the ISP assigns different public IPs depending on what device connects to their fiber box.
