ORBI wifi very slow

Hello,

I have been using Orbi for quite a while. When using a wired network and based on my Internet link I am able to get a great download speed (230Mbps) however when I connect using my iPhone 7, I can only get 6 to 10Mbps. I wonder if there is something I need to do to get the best speed on Wifi, I think this is too slow.

My setup is the following:

2.4GHz: Auto

5Ghz: 48

20/40 MHz Coexistence Enabled

VMM settings (disabled for both 2.4 and 5 Ghz)

CTS/RTS Threshold 2347 on both, 2.4 and 5 Ghz)

Implicit Beamforming enabled

MU-MIMO disabled.

Thanks for your help!

Juan Carlos

    Hello Juan

Is it only the Iphone getting the slow wireless speeds or any wireless device?

Hi, thanks for your answer. I tested two iphones and 2 android tablets and they all can only do between 6 to 10 Mbps, while a wired connection can do up to 220Mbps.

      Regards

        Hello jcalarcon01

Try to disable the 20/40 MHz or enable mumimo or both on or off.

  • I am also recieving slow wifi speeds on the 2.4 or 5 Ghz band. Example, I have a comcast wifi enabled modem that sits right next to my orbi rbr50. Standing in the same room, my DL speeds on wifi 5 ghz on the comcast modem avg 246 Mb per second. I switch to the Orbi, and the speed avd on 5 ghz wifi is 14 Mb per second. I have tried a laptop(Windows), Apple Phone, and Android phone. I have verified on the router all devices were connected on the 5 Ghz band. This has been an issue through several firmware revisions as I have had the router sinve Dec 2016 and have updated regularly. I am currently on the 2.1.2.10 beta. I have tried disabling comcast wifi as well as ensured QOS is off and that MIMU, Beamforming, and fast roaming are all checked. My upload speeds are consistent between the comcast modem vs the orbi router. I have reset to factory, tried old firmware and beta firmware and current firmware. Even if I connect to the satellite the speeds are consistently slow as with the router (14 DL). Anything else I could try would be greatly appreciated, as I feel with the modem performing as expected this would be a setting or something with Orbi router.

Firmware 2.1.2.18 has seemed to correct the issue. Sppedtests now show only slight drop off from wired vs wireless connection. Thank you.

     5GHZ - to 36 or auto

20/40 MHz Coexistence - set to 40mhz or let default

    Implicit Beamforming disabled

    Maybe this helps you:

    Name (SSID)    yourname
    Region    United States
    Channel    36(P)+40+44+48
    Mode    Up to 866.7 Mbps
    2.4Ghz channel auto
    5Ghz channel 36
    WPA2-PSK [AES]
    WMM enabled
    20/40 Mhz Coexistence enabled
    CTS/RTS 2347
    Preamble automatic
    Enable Daisy... checked
    Beamforming -- enabled
    MU-MIMO -enable

For me , this is working.
