RBR50 connected devices report no internet access

I have a RBR50 router with two satellites that is connected to a Cox Cable modem. The system has been working without issue since December 2019 until last week.  WiFi devices are working, but I have 5 "connected" (wired ethernet) devices using a TP-Link 8 port Ethernet switch to the router. The devices are a Tivo, three Tivo minis and a Verizon (Samsung) LTE network Extender. The iOS App and web admin interface show the devices intermittently (some times they are in the list sometimes they aren't). The Tivo works but the minis and Verizon device are complaining that they have no internet access. I have performed the following troubleshooting to resolve the situation:

Updated the RBR50 gear to the latest firmware 2.5.1.16

Hard power cycled all device in the signal chain and started them in the following order - Cox modem, RBR50, TP-Link TL-SG108 Switch, tivo minis and Verizon extender

After the power cycle the Tivo minis and Verizon devices, they get an IP address from DHCP server on the RBR50 but they complain about having no interent access.

Any suggestions on what could be happening would be appreciated.

We replaced the TP-Link switch with a Netgear GS308E managed switch. When we set the port speeds to 100M Full Duplex and rebooted all the devices, the Tivo minis were able to access the internet and see the primary Tivo device.

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

What happens if you take the switches out of the mix and directly connect 1 or two of the devices to the back of the RBR directly?

Thanks for your assistance. The cable modem is an Arris TM3402A/CX. My guess is that they performed an updated and it messed everything up. I will try to have two devices cables moved from the switch to the RBR50 router to see if that changes things for them and report back.

  • We attached a Macbook to the TPLink switch and it was able to get a DHCP lease with DNS to the Orbi router. The Macbook was able to reach the internet and use a browser to access content.

We moved one of the Tivo Mini units from the TPLink Switch directly to the Orbi router and rebooted it. It was able to access the internet but not the primary tivo that was still attached to the switch.

It is unclear why the primary Tivo and Macbook are able to get to the internet but the other devices are not. It would suggest an issue with the switch or uplink from the Orbi ...

What is strange is that everything was working fine and now it has stopped working. The TPLink is an unmanage switch so there is no moniotring capability. Is there a way from the Orbi command line or logs to help troubleshoot?

    Thanks!

Remove the TP-Link switch. Seems like this is the problem if you get internet connected with devices directly to the RBR and not thru this switch.

      I recommend trying a NG GS105-108, D-Link GS-105-108 or HP ProCurve 1400/1800 series switches.

Unfortunately, others here have reported problems with these "green" switches like your D-Link GS-105-108 so it seems the likely problem.  If the switch interrupts network connectivity after a time then that would explain the behavior you observe.

Glad the switch change out worked. Enjoy. :smileywink:
