RBR50v2 does not allow some devices to connect to the Internet

I just installed a RBR50v2 and it was a disappointment. I will be greatly obliged if anyone can help me out.

I had to set up the system with a phone (what a joke!, this should have altered me) and after, I found that two Android phones and a Windows 10 desktop plugged directly into a satellite's port work fine. But two Windows 10 laptops can connect to the network, but do not see the Internet. Further, two iPhone have the same problem.

I was recommended this set up by an ISP installer. I regret falling for it (and the new ISP as well!). Having set up networks at home for all these years, I am ready to go back to the slow connection I had, than having zero speed on half the devices.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

thanks.

  • The point is really moot. As I said, I can get to the router by going to 192.168.1.1.

    Thanks for the response.

    1. What modem/gateway is the router connected to?

    2. what firmware is on the router and the satellite?

For next time, you don't have to use your phone. When you first connect to the router with a pc and go to its ip address or the routerlogin address it'll say "we recommend......app" blah blah blah but if you scroll to the bottom of the page, there's a link you can click to go through the browser based setup. Works much better and my preferred way of setup.

I *did* connect with my phone. The network came up. I plugged my PC and Vonage (VIOP phone) modem directly into one of the satellites. They work.

I then got two Android phones to connect to the network without issues.

But the following devices can detect the network, can connect, but there is no Internet access:

      Two Windows 10 laptops

      Two iPhones

      One iPad

The router is whatever Greenlight (the local fibre optic ISP) installed.

How do I find the firmware? The stupid phone app said it was checking for new firmware, could not find it after 5 attempts and so I bypassed that part of the set up.

Futzing around with the phone app tells me the following:

        Firmware Ver:    v2.7.3.22

      All done!!!!

I am still not sure how it all worked out, but I found the key in "Access Control" page on the web interface. I had to delete some of the unconnected devices and then add them on again. Somehow, that seems to have worked.

All devices are now connected and everything appears to be fine.

Still disappointed with Netgear's instructions for set up -- they could have added a set up guide a few pages long. It would have been so much easier than monkeying around with the phone app.

      Thanks for the hints, plemans.
