MR2100-TLAUS bug fix

Hello, over the past six months that I have this router, I have received 3 updates, but not a single error that I will write about has been fixed. After every update, I did a factory reset. Also, the problem is that the update only goes through OTA and that in each update it is not clear what has changed. Currently, the firmware version is NTGX 24_10.17.10.00, HW 1.0, PRI 04.04, SDX modem 24_10.25.00.06.
I bought a cheap used Australian version and am using it in Russia.
In general, it works well, the connection is stable and the speed is much higher than from a phone or an old LTE router, but there are questions about bugs:
1. (always) Wakes up for a very long time - from 10-15 seconds to 2-3 minutes, when operating on battery power and if not used for several hours.
2. (rare) After waking up, WiFi does not work, i.e. shows a red cross on WiFi and I even waited once for half an hour or an hour until I rebooted the router. After that, WiFi turns on.
3. Does not show the + sign after 4G even if the aggregation works and is visible when the !GSTATUS command is sent to the router.
4. (sometimes) After turning on or rebooting with the battery inserted, it does not show anything in the battery icon - neither the remaining charge nor the charging icon if I connect the power adapter. Reboot helps. The battery is native, holds a charge well.
5. (sometimes) When you turn on or restart the router, instead of the name of the cellular operator, it writes "Search" until you restart the router. At the same time, the Internet works.

Perhaps it was necessary to take the MR 1100 because he at least had the opportunity to access the password-protected AT commands to configure the router on his own. In the case of the MR 2100, it turns out that it is not clear what is being corrected in the firmware, and the ability to configure the AT router with commands is minimized.

  • I will add to my post:
Yesterday, to ensure a little more autonomy, I set the screen time of 30 s instead of 1 min. And today I could not unlock the device. when it wakes up from idle mode, it reacts to buttons only after 35-45 seconds. The screen lights up, I do a swipe up, but because the screen goes out after 30 seconds, this swite is ignored. I had to pull out and reinsert the battery.
Gentlemen from Netgear, how could such an unfinished product be put into production?
How can you release so many firmware for it and not really fix anything?

      Hi There,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.  Our engineers are trying to reproduce this issue.  Please keep an eye on your PM's as I may reach out to you with some additional questions on your configurations.

      Regards,

Perhaps I have determined in which case WiFi does not work.
Usually I wake up the MR2100 in the morning by touching the power button, in this case, although I have to wait a long time for awakening, everything works fine. But if I do not touch any buttons and the screen and connect the sleeping router to the USB port of the laptop, then after 1-2 minutes it wakes up by itself but Wi-Fi does not work. Shows a red cross at all times. WiFI starts working only after rebooting the MR2100.

Your device is already on the latest FW for Telstra MR2100.

Please advise which carrier you are using in Russia.

    Thanks

After the November update of the MR2100-1TLAUS, the router became little more responsive when waking up from sleep. I did not notice the rest of the improvements. The battery icon, also after turning on / rebooting, sometimes may not contain any data. The + sign next to 4G also does not show even when AT !GSTATUS shows aggregation.
Well, and the main "improvement" of the new firmware is the AT command !BAND now, when trying to set only fast B3+B7, it gives an ERROR response. Everything worked in the previous firmware. What good specialists at Netgear now my fast internet periodically switches to super-slow Band 8 and I can't do anything, so I want to smash the router against the wall. If Netgear released a detailed update changer, I would definitely read it and not update it. For me the pluses turned out to be negligible and the minus huge.

  • Yesterday my router, after a reboot, froze at point 4 of the boot screen. When I connected USB and LAN at the same time, the router loaded the menu and I did a factory reset, but after that the router also froze at point 4, after which I connected USB and LAN again and even managed to configure the router after reset. But already no interfaces worked - neither USB nor LAN nor Wi-Fi. After the reboot, the router has already frozen at 2 points and blinked a red LED. Now the router only responds to pressing the reset button before power is applied and enters the firmware download mode. Of course, the main problem is that the firmware was removed from free access.
