Nighthawk M1 does not port forward and cannot get help from netgear

So I have a business account with telstra on the extranet apn and they adminantly say that it is not behind a CGNAt and that portforwarding should work and it is the modem at fault. I have also confirmed that many people have got portfowarding working using mobile broadband on the extranet service. But the Nighthawk M1 will not do it. I have tried DMZ and ip pass through and setting up portfowarding rules. and to no avail I cannot get my ftp server to work........ Can anyone confirm that the portforwarding does work and tell me what I am doing wrong. I am ready to take a hammer to he router ....... I have confirmed that my ftp server works on a router modem on a fixed landline service by opening up the correct ports. Also is it true that you can not enter a range of ports into the m1 you have do it individually.

  • When in DMZ mode the port scanner tool on the net says the following ports are open:

    21

    80

    139

    443

    445

But nothing else.  It says refused(RST)

I've never touched one, so I know nothing, but there seem to be
multiple variants of that model.  The actual model number (on the label
on the gizmo?) might be interesting.

Not a very detailed description of anything.  Actual port-forwarding
      rule(s)?

"cannot" is not a useful problem description.  It does not say what
you did.  It does not say what happened when you did it.  As usual,
showing actual actions with their actual results (error messages, LED
indicators, ...) can be more helpful than vague descriptions or
      interpretations.

That's how I read the manual.

I don't know what "It says refused(RST)" means.  What is "it"?  When
      you do what?

Conventional (active-mode) FTP uses ports 20 and 21.  You might get
by with only 21 if you use passive mode.  You are talking about
plain-old, insecure FTP, not some fancy-new, secure variant (SFTP, ...),
      right?

  • A way to check if you have the telstra extranet apn properly configured is to compare the IP you have received under the modem dashboard >settings>network>ipv4 = "your address" ,then open a google page and type what is my IP. If the two IP's are the identical then you have the extranet set up correctly and you are not behind a CGNAT If you have different IP's then first check that under your modem Dashboard>settings>advanced>cellular is set to telstra.extranet and not the default telstra.internet, if so then have telstra confirm you have been allocated with a extranet on your account
    • Thanks for your reply. Yes I have an ip that is the same as in the router networ status page. So I am on the extranet . However I need to know if anyone has an ftp server or any other server working behind the M1 router. Either the netgear modem is not port forwarding or there is still content filtering on the extranet network. I desperatley need to know if anyone has a service running behind the Nighthawk m1 on anynetwork ... Many thanks.

And should I just tick the box for DMZ and put in the ip address of the ftp server (A Synology NAS) .

Or is there more to that I need to do to make sure hte firewall on the model is open?

        Many thanks.
