Nighthawk M1 Killed by FW 12.05.05.12

I have a fleet of nighthawk M1. One is on consumer AT&T. The others are all on FirstNet. After the 12.0 5.0 5.12 firmware update, none of them will stay connected to the network. They also connected. But they pass no data.

Others are posting about the same issue on Reddit right now. Is there anyway to roll these back and keep them on an older firmware version? this is the hotspot recommended by AT&T for first responders. This is not OK.

  • I have two of the same hotspots. One on ATT and another on FirstNet. Both are having the same issues since the update. Can't figure out how to roll back the firmware either.

Iam having issues with the update also. I am not able to get any service when using the ethernet port. I have 2 devices. The first one updated and I lost internet through the ehternet port. I switched to the other device still running 12.05.05.00 and it was working fine. within 24 hours it updated and lost the ethernet port on it also.

        any assistance would be appreciated.

  • I should add, a factory reset hasn't helped at all. I wonder what the chance of netgear customer support chiming in to help.

  • I have the issue. The only way it works is on Ethernet and if i turn ON and OFF domestic data on the Network settings on the router. Sometimes it last 1hr or 15 mins and everytime i do this it fixes it temp. I hope this issue gets fixed because its really frustrating.

      Guide

AT&T technical support reached out to me. The best they could do is tell me they were aware of the issue. They could not deliver a time frame for a fix for it. Only thing I can suggest is to reach out to AT&T to complain. Apparently this update was pushed out by AT&T only for the AT&T specific model.

Obviously netgear has no interest in reaching out to any of us. Not that their customer service is any good. Other netgear devices have been a nightmare to get service for.

My suggestion is to make a post on ATT forums online. Customer service got back to me quick. Technical support followed up in a day or two. If more people complain, it may get them to step it up.

I have two MR1100 units as well, and the one that upgraded to 12.05.05.12 is totally messed up.  I am so glad I sumbled onto this thread, because I am confident that the firmware is the issue since my MR1100 that is still operating with firmware 12.05.05.00 is still able to get data and function properly.

My ISP said they have been bombarded with everyone receiving "broadband disconnected" errors and when the MR1100 that updated finally picks up a signal its incredibly weak and then the error comes back repeatedly.

Why provide the old firmware version in the download section for this router if individuals cannot flash it to the router to fix this mess?!?!?

We are investigating the report now. Will get back to you soon.

    Thanks

  • I am having the same issue with our FirstNet MR1100 after they automatically updated to 12.05.05.12. I would be willing to test Firmware for FirstNet devices. I have veified that it was 12.05.05.12 that caused the issue after they upgraded.

      Hi JohnPeng

      My SKU = MR1100-1A1NAS

This is a consumer AT&T branded Nighthawk purchased directly from AT&T.

The last firmware update disabled the ethernet port.  We need the ethernet port turned back on as soon as possible.

  • All 3 of my hotspots quit after the update.  I discovered 2 things in troubleshooting.  Turning on Client Provacy under router options let most devices connect to the internet including the ethernet port.  Most connectivity issues were from Windows computers.  Changing the WiFi connection options in Windows 10 to randomize the MAC address everytime it connected to WiFi allowed my laptops to connect.  All 3 are working for now, but segregated traffic is not ideal.

  •  think I have the same issue and I am NOT ATT. I have an unlocked M1 running on a Google Fi Data Sim

    • Updated firmware a few days ago.
    • Devices: HP ENVY (new) laptop and iPad 6. Phone Android latest software

I set up the M1 on my laptop a few days ago, added the APN, and updated the firmware. I drove to a higher location where I would work and connected my iPad to the device via Wifi. It said one device connected and I ran a speedtest on my iPad. Awesome.

Then I drove to another location a mile away to try another speedtest BUT even though the M1 said it was connected and the iPad said it was connected, There was no internet. I connected my phone and then the M1 said 2 devices connected and my phone said it was connected. No internet on the phone either. I powered off both devices, turned the M1 on, then the ipad. No difference=no wifi. I powered everything off.

So I researched and saw something about turning off standby. There was no option for that but I changed it from 5 to 60 minutes.

Next day I am in my car again and power on the M1. Then I power on the iPad and do a screentest. Awesome. wifi works. I drive to another location 5 minutes away and  the same problem happens all over again, no wifi. I NEED this to be reliable.

I saw in a forum somthing about the 2G vs 5G and which one do I have set? I have them both set to switch. I am signing into the 2G with the ipad.
