Adding a server to home-based business network using GS608 and N600

I will start by admitting that networking is not my strong point and need help/advice.  I am adding a local server to my existing network comprised of an N600 router and a GS608 switch.  The router (4 ports) powers a laptop, the switch, and a wired security camera system.  The switch itself connects a PC and three printers leaving three ports open. The camera system has a DVR controlled by the PC.

Should I be connecting the server to the router (one open port) or to the existing switch (3 open ports)?  Or is adding another switch dedicated to the server recommended and if so, would it go between the router and the server?  My ultimate goal by installing the server is to allow assistants to remotely access a database concurrently so we can all work together to meet deadlines.  They never work in the same location, so remote access to the server/DB is the only way it will work.  There will probably not be more than 10 remote users, either.

Should I move the Cat5e cable connecting the security camera system from the router to the switch?  I think the only reason it is attached to the router is I added the switch after I installed the security cameras...

Thanks for your time!

    Hello LanternHill,

    Welcome to the community!

Adding another switch is not necessary unless you need more ports. Having a router and a server means that you will have two DHCP servers on the network (this is the one that provides IP addresses to your devices). You'll have to decide which one will be your DHCP server if it's the router that you have chosen you'll have  to disable the DHCP server function of the server.
