Can't Factory Reset ProSafe FSM726E

Hello everybody

I have a problem trying to reset 2 ProSafe FSM726E.

I tried to hold the reset button for 10, 30 seconds, holding the reset button while unpluging/repluging, none of those solutions worked, and it is same on 2 units, so I doubt that it is hardware, and as the notice doesn't give a lot of detail on reseting, it's possible that I don't have the good scheme to reset, so your help is more than welcome!

Kindly,

DKdlV

  • Hi dkdlv

The reset button on the front of the unit is just a reboot. I won't "factory reset" the switch. On fully managed switches, like this one, you can only reset it via the CLI (command line interface). So, acquire a console cable and take a look here: http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/7200RS_7200_7300S_726_IGprt_09July09.pdf

The setup manual above should describe how to get to the CLI and do a quick setup.

Here is the general CLI manual for the switch, which will probably me handy as well. This switch works both with CLI and web UI, but the initial config and/or reset must be done from CLI.

Here is the link to the product page, which has even more documentation (Web UI manual, hardware manual, etc.).

      Thanks for your answer!

I realized a while after I posted that the reset button is more a "reboot" than a "reset"...

I succeeded the reset with my Arduino tools: a DE9 connector on a MAX232, a PL2303 TTL to USB, 4 dupont wires and I was done, but strange thing: TX is on TX, RX is on RX... (I'm used to the oposite on Arduino...)

As I'm on Ubuntu, I had a hard time using minicom as a CLI terminal, I finally had to install  GTKTerm, after, it took me 1 minute to reset the switch, but once the reset  sequence launched, I had to "manually" reboot the switch, as after half an hour, it was still with amber LED...

So mission complished, I can start to train myself with this museum piece!
