Connecting 140+ endpoints
Hi, I asked this the other day but got no feedback so maybe it was too in-depth or convoluted, so I'll try this: I would like to swap out an aging nortel stack of three 4500s (1gb ethernet). I was looking at XS748T, but it looks like it does not stack.
Does Netgear have a 10GB 48-port stackable option? I cannot find one.
I know I can chain up to three without too much latency, but I may need a fourth to handle my servers. So, I'm thinking of doing a "star" topology with a XS728T at the center, and connect my servers and gateway to that. Is that the best/recommended way to do this? Or is there some way to connect a reduntant "center" so if one goes down it doesn't take the whole office wirth it?
Thanks,
Jeff

Hi JeffAtK2
Thank you for your message. I would highly advise the M4300 series for your network redesign. All switches can stack within the series, the 10G models show the M4300-48X (XSM4348CS) for instance. Of course you want to use distributed link aggregation across stacked switches for highest availability. The M4300 offers Non Stop Forwarding (NSF) for absolutely zero service interruption across the stack should the stack master (management unit) fail.
Please have a look page 15 in the M4300 datasheet, I think you will find good topologies for each layer of your network. Let us know of any questions.
