Or go the logical way and compare the mac address to your DHCP server's logs,
since you've just setup the switch it should have the default MAC (which is on it's label)
When the DHCP server you're using assigns it an address it should supply what MAC address it gave what IP in the lease, no scanning... no extra crap just grabbing it the proper way.
Plus I don't know how the switch is setup by default or what firewalls you've got active but scans like hammering the network with ICMP could trigger some kinda packet drop for a limited amount of time so it's not the wisest of ideas.
