Host Name Not Registering In DNS
Hi,
I have set "DNS Default Name" and "System Name" via the GUI.
After the switch boots and received an IP from the DHCP server, a host name is not registered in the local DNS server. All other clients register their hostsnames properly. Not sure what I'm missing. Can't find any other way to set a hostname in the GUI. Can someone give me some pointers, please.
My DHCP and DNS reside on a Ubiquity Security Gateway Applicance running some flavor of Linux and I believe vyatta for routing, etc.
The DHCP server hands the netgear switch a reserved IP based on its MAC address.
I also have a GS105Ev2 that is being used as a port mirroring device connected to an ethernet port in promiscous mode on a SIEM system for NIDS/HIDS monitoring. That switch also will receive a reserved IP from the DHCP server, but its hostname will never register in the DNS server. Im only having this problem with the Netgear Switch equipment.
Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

Basic plain simple DHCP clients as used on these network devices and many other network appliances don't have any code to register names and more in DNS.
