M4100 12GF - home use setup
ive been trying to gather information on whether I can configure my m4100 to connect directly to my comcast arris modem. And using the dhcp server option on the 4100, distribute ips to my network. What i haven't been able to find is (without purchasing a static ip), how I confirm that my wan address is accurately configured on the 4100 in order to make it work.
I just want to remove my home netgear router. I only use it as the go between from my comcast to 4100 and its used as the dhcp server. I just want to get rid of that part of my network..
currently "comcast -> netgear wireless -> netgear 4100 -> home network"
what i would like "comcast -> netgear 4100 -> home network"
thanks for browsing
Hi grandfinalemike ,
I'm the product manager for the www.netgear.com/managed switches.
There will be no NAT in the managed switch, so you cannot "replace" a router by a managed switch this way. NAT is needed, the managed switch will only allow for LAN routing, for instance between VLANs, but firewalling/NAT is still needed above, connecting to the ISP modem.
I hope this will help you!
